The Earth's resources are being used up faster than they are being replenished. In six categories we should try to reduce our ecological footprint. This video explains how and what, including the concept of Earth Overshoot Day.

Bedankt voor de duidelijke uitleg. Wist niet dat CO2 uitstoot door vliegtuigen schadelijker is dan CO2 uitstoot op zeeniveau.

I’m grateful that you are educating people about the urgency to recognize ecological overshoot, unfortunately your remedies are outdated; in a growth-imperative economy, along with the maximum power principle, once the ecological overshoot is handed to the individual or consumers the party is over; we have to deal with these ecological stress points before we cut; before we drill; before we dig. If we don’t change the structure of the economy and political system (especially in the US) the outcome will be much the same. Focusing on the individual to reverse overshoot is a diversion, or just conflict avoidance. The planet expressing itself may make all this human-centered understanding of overshoot a moot point.

Im going to stop thoughtlessly use airplanes! Oh and the burden of building better appliances that are more energy-efficient and repairable is on the maker, NOT the consumer. So why don't you appeal to them and not consumers' guilt.

The consumers feed the demands of the maker... our consumption choices matter. But YES the companies ought to be responsible for their actions. Just 100 companies are responsible for 71% of the earth's greenhouse gas emissions.

The problem is that the majority of western society will never change their lifestyle. Eco dictatorship seems the only way. Sad to say. Thanks mate for the vid

I'm afraid so! Humanity will probably never stop getting more clothes, gadgets and long distance holidays. But as a geography teacher the least I can do is make the next generation aware of their actions. Thanks for your comment.
