I can't believe you'd consider Fathers Day, I adore that episode. Ditto on Amy's Choice and Oxygen. We could never do a group watch Series 1: Aliens in London Series 2: Love and Monsters Series 3: Last of the Timelords / Daleks In Manhattan - (ARGH! Can't decide. So many bad episodes in this season, only Blink and Human Nature do I ever come back to. Usually any attempt I make to do a full rewatch ends at Daleks in Manhattan though, I can't stomach it.) Series 4: Journey's End Series 4: Specials: Planet of the Dead Series 5: Beast Below (and I still like it, this is an AMAZING season) Series 6: Curse of the Black Spot Series 7: Ring's of Akhaten Series 8: Kill the Moon Series 9: Sleep No More Series 10: The Eaters of Light Series 11: The Battle of...whatever Series 12: Timeless Child Series 13: The finale 60th Specials: The Star Beast? Season 1: Rogue (just because of leaving the companion, otherwise space babies). Joins series 2 in that it's put me off watching the show as it goes out.

@alexmiyamoto48328 күн бұрын
@@AnotherScifiGuy yeah I know, my opinion isn't the norm there. Series 3 is when mainstream interest peaked in the show. RTDs taste in humour (even starting with plastic mickey and farting aliens), and tendency to make the Doctor dark and make the situations whimsical rather than vice versa just didn't work for me. I think maybe I'd like series 3 and 4 better if I hadn't been burnt out on those stylings by the preceding seasons.

@@idle_speculation The central premise-that the Daleks, the ultimate xenophobes, would splice themselves with human DNA-is not just a narrative misstep; it’s a betrayal of everything the Daleks stand for. The Daleks have always been defined by their obsessive belief in genetic purity. Episodes like Remembrance of the Daleks and Victory of the Daleks reinforce this, showing their revulsion at anything tainting their “perfect” DNA. Even in Evil of the Daleks, their fear of the “human factor” drove them to extraordinary lengths to eradicate it. At times they used humans for genetic material (Bad Wolf or Revelation) and they went out of their way to scrape that DNA clean. Yet here, the Cult of Skaro suddenly decides that merging with humanity is the key to their future. Dalek Sec’s transformation into a Dalek-human hybrid might have been intriguing if it wasn’t so laughably executed. His design-a bulbous-headed humanoid with a dangling tentacle-looks more like a rejected porn movie alien than a credible new form for the Daleks. Worse, the plan makes no sense within their established ideology. The other Daleks turning on Sec is meant to be dramatic, but it’s not a satisfying exploration of dissent-it’s a desperate attempt to salvage a premise that contradicts decades of continuity. Beyond this fundamental flaw, the episode collapses under the weight of its uninspired execution. Depression-era New York could have been a rich and atmospheric setting, but instead, it’s populated by paper-thin stereotypes. Tallulah, the showgirl, is charming for a moment but quickly becomes grating with her one-note personality. Solomon, the noble leader of Hooverville, is there to deliver cliched speeches about unity before being unceremoniously exterminated. None of the supporting characters are fleshed out enough to make their fates impactful, and the accents make my teeth grate. And then there are the pig slaves. Yes, the Daleks-some of the most terrifying villains in science fiction-have enlisted an army of pig-faced henchmen. Their design is unintentionally comical, undermining any sense of menace. It’s hard to take the Daleks seriously when their muscle looks like a bad Halloween costume. The pacing drags, with much of the runtime devoted to clunky exposition and repetitive dialogue. The Doctor and Martha feel like bystanders in their own story, reacting to events rather than driving the narrative forward. Martha, in particular, is wasted, given little to do beyond fretting over the Doctor and serving as moral support. The climax-Daleks shouting “EXTERMINATE!” at each other in a sewer-perfectly encapsulates the episode’s failings. What should be a tense and dramatic confrontation feels ridiculous and forced, with no real stakes or resolution. The destruction of the Dalek-human hybrids is rushed and unsatisfying, as if the script simply gave up. In the end, Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks is one of the worst misfires of the Tennant era. It misunderstands its villains, squanders its setting, and reduces its leads to passive participants. It’s not just a bad episode-it’s an insult to both the intelligence of long-time fans and the legacy of Doctor Who’s most iconic enemies.

Series 1: "The Long Game" - Not a bad episode per se, but it doesn't stand up when watched in isolation from the rest of the series. Series 2: "Love 'n' Monsters" - Nothing wrong with experimentation, but this veers too far into self-indulgence for my liking. Series 3: "42" - Bland as fuck. Series 4: "The Doctor's Daughter" - Bland, idiotic and built around a sensationalist yet utterly ephemeral premise. The TV equivalent of clickbait. 2008-09 Specials: "The End of Time" - Plodding, pretentious and poorly thought out; RTD had (understandably) run out of stream at this point, and my God it shows. Series 5: "The Vampires of Venice" - Nice idea, but poorly executed. Series 6: "The Wedding of River Song" - Steven Moffat at his self-important, self-indulgent, self-congratulatory, self-abusing worst; absolute crap from beginning to end. Series 7: "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" - Nothing wrong with writing stories aimed predominantly at younger viewers, but at least give them something that genuinely fires up the imagination; this just _patronises_ children. 2013 Specials: "The Time of the Doctor" - Just regenerate, already... No one cares anymore. Series 8: "Robot of Sherwood" - Speaks for itself, and if you have to ask then God help you. Series 9: "Sleep No More" - Another potentially promising idea let down by a lousy execution. Series 10: "The Return of Dr. Mysterio" - Because what Doctor Who _really_ needs to do is muscle in on Marvel/DC territory, 'cos, you know, that's where the money is, right? SHAMEFUL. Series 11: Oh God... Erm, I'm singling out "Arachnids in the UK" for this season as it sums up the annoying, poorly thought out, preachy, 'that'll do' tone that defines this era. Series 12: "The Timeless Children" - What, you didn't think I'd include the story that shits all over the show's history? Series 13: All of them except for "Village of the Angels"... I actually quite liked that one. 2022 Specials: "Legend of the Sea Devils" - Incoherent garbage. Someone got _paid_ to write this, you know. 2023 Specials: "The Giggle" - Hands down. Allow me to channel my inner Roger Ebert. I hated this episode. Hated, hated, hated it. Hated the simpering way RTD thought we'd except its lack of logic and cohesion purely because he tells us to. Hated the way it pats itself on the back just for existing. Hated every pandering, box-ticking, spoon-feeding moment. So yeah, I just _hated_ it. Series 14: Ah, we'll never know, sadly, as the series was cancelled due to lack of interest finding a co-producer. I hear there's a sort of spoof series doing the rounds now with that bloke from Sex Education and John Nathan-Turner's love child acting as showrunner, but it's not meant to be very good, though.

For me series 1 it's the unquiet dead. Series 2 is definitely the idiots lantern because of my abusive dad. Series 3 gridlock. It's basically the doctor in a traffic jam. Series 4 it's planet of the Ood because I don't like the solution is to change the bad guy into an Ood. The specials water of Mars. I just didn't like it. Series 5 the lagger. It's a good comedy but it can make the doctor too annoying. Series 6 night terrors I just don't like horror fiction. Series 7 a dinosaurs on a spaceship. It's a cool idea and a cute idea but out of a great mini series it's not that great. Series 7 b journey to the center of the TARDIS. It's just not a great episode. Good idea but not great execution of it. Series 8 Time hoist it's just too gross for me. Series 9 sleep no more I think it's called. It's not great because of the eye crust monsters and it's being told by the bad guy. Series 10 the eaters of light. I just didn't like it. I don't have a problem with the monk trilogy like most people. But it's like. The eaters of light is just there I just want to skip to what I call the kill Bill two parter. Series 11 it's got to be that weird one with the mirror that leads to another dimension. I forget what it's called. And I don't care to look it up. Series 12 orphan 55 . Series 13 the flux season I agree with you I don't like once upon time. And I think the one before it is the best of that season. The war of the Sontarins I love that one. The 13th doctor specials. That's a hard one. I like all 3 of them. I guess if I had to pick Eve of the Daleks. Season 1 with the 15th doctor I don't know. I like that whole season. But I have to go with boom.

Ww3 had more plot logic. Father's day just wrings hollow spectacle. I always liked "42". Not the best but not terrible... Waters of Mars is the most traditional of the 4, but I can't stand the other 09 specials. The 11th Doctor solution story is such a lame retread. The tone of the story feels like Pertwee, but it doesn't do anything new, apart from 3rd eye replacement with parts that no lizard would have. The moon and the forest are all-time worst. Ever. Capaldi can't even eleva/e them. O2 was bad. Even Red Dwarf did it better. Power of the Daleks? 😂 Legends had a cool location and historical figure but the editing does hamper it. Empire dropping the ball vs Space Babies setting up the year by dropping it in the diaper.
