I am 72 years of age ! Started when I was 13 ! From altar boy to Older boy as my priest called me and my cronie ! Being on the altar with priest is most wonderful experience ! it as if Jesus right there with you every step of ones life and with all who attend mass ! Believe me it makes YOU more of a better person towards your brothers and sisters in Christ ! I would not change my feelings at any one time ! I have served funeral masses for friends of mine when asked by the family or even not ! In which I feel is real reward because it is what God is telling me what to do ! I will say this too my younger brothers and sisters if this is YOUR call go for it it is one most WONDERFUL thing YOU can do for YOURSELF ! This is a beautiful video. I'm an altar server (in my denomination, we are called "acolytes"). It has been something I've yearned to do for my entire life. My Catholic Church allowed female servers, but my parents were against it. Now I am a young adult, and have chosen a church of my own. I am free to take advantage of all of the many opportunities the Episcopal church offers everyone, regardless of their sex. I respect denominations that prefer a strict division between males and females, but I must say that females are just as capable and get just as much out of this beautiful experience as males do.

Why do so many Catholic churches on the east coast, including Florida, have so few people attending Mass? Gee, in Texas, it's standing room only. Our churches are packed. On Ash Wednesday, ashes were given on the hour from 7 am to 7 pm and there were people coming continually. And it is not crowded just at Christmas and at Easter. Even ordinary Sundays have full pews at all Masses.

I am an adult altar server at my Cathedral, I am a female. I find that females on the altar are not a distraction but more of a blessing in the Church. Who's to say that females don't find their vocation to the Religious life just as the same that males find their vocation to the priesthood. As for Lord Dreagon, I find females just as capable on the altar as they are in the military. And if the females are causing a distraction either in the battlefield or on the altar it surely rests with the person that is being distracted not who they are being distracted by. And to you Jenna, do not be nervous, if you make a mistake, brush it off. The reverence one gives while learning is most important not how perfectly things go. To all females and male servers...we are the assistants of the priest, the assistants of Jesus Christ. Do not be discouraged by others we are in great need in many churches today. Leah Landis Because in no way are the virtues of poverty, chastity, and obedience introduced, practiced, or carried out through altar serving. But PRIESTLY qualities are introduced, practiced, and even obtained through altar serving. No, I don't believe female altar servers are a distraction, but altar serving is not a very good way to discern a possible calling for the religious life. It's a way to get closer to God in the liturgies, but in no way are you mimicking the life of a religious sister or brother. But in a lot of ways, you are mimicking the life of a priest. I don't have a problem seeing a female altar server at the altar, until they start outnumbering the guys. I also have a problem with, "girls have just as much of a right to serve as guys do." Well no, not really. You're given a privilege. Your bishop, in your case, or whoever is your pastor has a right to not allow girls to serve at the altar. John Paul II gave girls this privilege, but said that the pastor of that parish and change that if he pleases.

Sure, boys can be altar servers as a way to help them discern the Priesthood, but they aren't the only ones called to religious life. Girls cannot be priests, but the strengthened relationship one forms with God as a result of serving on the altar can help young women realize their call to be a religious Sister. You're not damaging the Church by allowing girls to be altar servers; you make the Church stronger, by helping young people of both genders serve God and seek out a possible higher calling.

By the looks of it they were serving a traditional Latin Mass and in these forms of Mass woman/girls rarely if ever serve at mass

I was an altar girl and I knew women couldn’t be priests, but I didn’t realize the church is the Bride of Christ so God ordered the priesthood to be for men. That’s why girls don’t serve at a Traditional Mass, and part of why I’m considering switching to the Traditional Mass.

I am not RC but the service is interesting....have been to Mass many times, including a funeral during which we were all invited to take Communion, which I found surprising. mind you it was a military Padre and funeral on base, and I always found them most ecumenical regardless of their faith. When I was active duty we had a RC Padre who had converted from Anglican, he was married and had children. Special dispensation from Rome.

Cool looking sacred vessels our sacred vessels is old and quite rusty we have 6 kinds of bell in our church 1 Sanctus Bell 2 Single bell 3 The bell we us during processions 4 The Two Bell on the bell tower 5 We have an indoor bell 6 Matraka (we use this during holy week) anyways our old vessels is supee old our church was built in 1977 which is a long period of time The sanctus bell isn't that loud anymore ;(

I was an altar boy in the early 60's when masses were in latin. Those were the good old days. During communion, people would come up and kneel at a long bannister to receive the hosts from the priest. As an altar BOY, I had to place a golden tray with a handle under their chinny, chin, chins. Which was good with pretty girls, but pretty gross with old people. Anyway, I figure I had seen every tongue in the parish!

There is no more formative experience for a boy than kneeling before the Altar of God with all of the Saints in the Roman Canon. That's where Priests come from. +AMDG+

Janisse Flores actually in some churches even some Catholic one girls can be altar servers. In Protestant Reformation, girls can even be priests
