I just want it to be known that ADHD IS a disability, and while she seems really happy with her ADHD (which I’m so happy for her about!!) it’s way worse for some people, and we have a much tougher time with many things and less pros. It depends on the person, and no one should go around gaslighting people for hating their ADHD. For some people that is their truth.

Same here! It's debilitating for me. No matter how hard I try getting simple things done can feel like climbing a mountain for me. I'm constantly having multiple dialogues in my mind which is exhausting! It's so hard for me to stay focused on ONE task unless I'm hyper focused, and being so impulsive has put me in very dangerous situations and has caused me to make huge mistakes. I'm constantly zoning out, forgetful, restless, highly emotional, sensitive to sounds and sensations the list goes on and on! I'm looking to get medicated soon which costs THOUSANDS of dollars in Australia and it's not covered by health insurance or medicare. There's literally no support for people with ADHD in Australia it's a nightmare! Yeah, I'm creative, generous, funny and have unlimited energy at times but there's far more negatives then positives!

I definitely am the type to hyper-focus on things I like to do but if it's something I slightly don't want to do I'm totally dissociated and inattentive. I also have the memory of a goldfish and I'm super fidgety which can be annoying to others but I've stopped apologizing for something I cannot really control. Glad to see a woman talking about this, people need to know it's not just in boys

Goldfish actually have a decent memory. The memory of a crow seems more likely as they can remember where they store food for months but they have issues recalling things in other contexts. Dogs might be accurate for some as studies show they don't remember much after 2 minutes

ADHD Inattentive here. Thanks for speaking about this. Much of this I can echo in myself. It is a struggle. I was diagnosed in grade 4 and for all of my college years I refused to believe it still existed in me. It had, but it changed how I did things in life. I always saw it as a negative. Now I see it in the positive light that it can be.

There’s so much more to ADHD than attention deficit... emotional dysregulation, rejection sensitivity, procrastination, lack of motivation.. and being prone to addiction and depression because of all that. When I was growing up here in the US ADHD was over diagnosed in kids, and they were given stimulant drugs at a young age. Which is just fucking absurd and cruel. We need to be trained to learn to work with our brains and our energy levels.. and try to regulate dopamine in a natural way when possible.

Well said, we only got one brain. If it gets f*cked with, it usually wont be permanent, but it can take years to get balanced again. We should be presented and educated with more options to treat mental disorders. And not saying medication is a bad way to go, but the patient has to be fully educated on the long-term potential side-effects. These medications are heavily researched and tested, so if we do choose the medication assisted treatment, there should be less "invasive" options too. Aka substances that can be safely removed without withdrawal complications and less addiction potential etc. The more chemically "intense" medications (like alprazolam/benzos, some ssri´s, amphetamines/methylphenidates) should only be prescribed for a strictly limited period of time with proper guidance from professionals. It is sad that lots of people cant afford or dont even have access to these institutions, because government money is just going to I dont even want to say where to:) Yeah thank you for your comment, there is always more than meets the eye.

I also have ADHD. I have to say I fully love that they mentioned the fact that ADHD is different for everyone. Someone with ADHD may be able to sit down and read for a full day, sitting mostly still and focussed. They still have ADHD. I myself, was only recently diagnosed but I kind of always knew I had it. I just was never picked up on because of the fact that I was not a ADHD boy that was disruptive in class, I was an ADHD boy that got good grades and was not disruptive. It sucks it took until I was in college to get diagnosed. However, I did know stuff was wrong when I loved stimulus stuff. As she said, anything for an adrenaline rush is amazing for someone with ADHD.

I tend to make my days structured but not packed. I have hyper energy for things I love. I enjoy new things all the time. I am learning how to become a reseller and I go thrifting often. It's an experience that's new everyday, so I enjoy that. I take no meds but it's because I've learned through the years how to adapt. I'm visually impaired as well so adapting to limitations has always been apart of my life.

I’ve always had trouble with staying focused. I literally have to turn my music down to park my car, because the music is distracting. I can’t multitask, and i have issues with finishing things. It’s so frustrating at times, because you end up going down a rabbit hole of different activities to get that dopamine. One of my biggest fears is being bored. I’m always thinking about having fun, which i know is a bad thing, but i can’t help but to want to enjoy myself all the time.

Internalizing it, is an understatement for me. I ended up picking my skin unfortunately. Strict parents who didn't quite understand that it was serious when the doctor told them to bring my to a psychiatrist... It was a different time in the 90s, so I don't blame them. I'm just glad I got the help as an adult. I'm the same, hyperfocusing on leathercrafting, nail sculpting and any other craft I've acquired in my life. Just hearing how much I relate to others is comforting.
