Thank you Daboki , been here since I was 12 cause of maplestory hahaha, now I’m 18 doing my foundation in college , I live in Malaysia and I haven’t really decide what to take for my degree , I want to study chemical engineering cause I feel like I will earn more and the field might be less competitive , but there was a programming course in my foundation and I ace it, I kinda feel like programming was my thing but almost all of my friends study programming as well which worries me , I’m afraid that the competition will be very tough, and I will not be able to find a job, after watching your videos I realize all these is just a barrier for our career , I’ve learn a lot , thank you very much. I may choose software engineering for my degree now ahaha

Thank you so much Daboki. This video definitely helped me. I recently graduated from a software developer's boot camp and the entire time I was there, I always felt like I was a couple steps behind my classmates. Even upon graduating a lot of my classmates got hired, but I got passed up by a lot of employers looking for stronger coders. I definitely got very discouraged but have been continuing my training and even teaching myself JS and JS frameworks. I definitely needed to hear that someone in the field also had a hard time at first. Thank you for this.

I failed calculus more than 5 times because I been struggling with paying my tuition. Working full time in a minimum wage job sector and going full time at school is very hard. I passed cal 1 but I failed cal 2 about 3 times now. I failed cal 3 like 1 time. I am 26 and I been failing classes since I was in high school. It’s normal for me to fail a class by now. However, here I am. I passed high school , I passed college in a different bachelor, and now I’m going for my second one and I keep failing but I make it to the end. I’ll be prob graduating when I’ll be 30-31 years old. Thank you for sharing your story Daboki, I really needed this , you inspire me

First time commenting on one of your videos (mostly watched your Maplestory and cooking videos), but gotta say I really enjoyed listening about your experiences as a software engineer. This was an awesome video!! I've been in the industry for roughly the same amount of time as well but still in the same company for all these years. There were definitely times where I felt I was stagnating as a developer but I really liked the people and company I was working with so I didn't want to leave. Honestly, it's imagining going through the insane interview process and prep again that scares me. Instead, I've resorted to just working on side projects in new languages and domains to keep up my learning process. Just something I thought of when you said you tried to become a detective. Chasing down a random crash or elusive memory leak is almost like detective work where you have to work with clues or find new clues in order to get one step further in solving the root issue. The happiness you get when you finally resolve it is just priceless sometimes.

i'm a software engineer myself (2yrs now) and let me say i 100% relate with EVERYTHING. It's almost like a love/hate relationship with the carreer itself. i LOVE it when something works.... but when something doesn't (most of the time) i hate it...... i found sometimes stopping and starting over fixes a lot of things, even if it takes more time... also going out for a walk or clear your mind somehow helps. Also having someone else look at your code, sometimes you're stuck and its something EASY but you just cant see the error because you're tilted by it, having some one else just scroll over the code or even explaining it to them i found helps fix them.

Great video Daboki. As someone who graduated recently and is also in the Engineering field, I find this video extremely relatable, especially your stories about the internship. It's funny because sometimes, you're just doing things that you simply don't expect in the real world compared to what you learned in school. I majored in Aerospace Engineering, so I had all this knowledge in Aerodynamics, Flight Mechanics, Space systems and design etc etc, come forward to my first Internship, I was just filling out Excel Sheets and doing work on CAD and 3dModels, and the knowledge that I learned during my Major rarely applied to what I was doing at the time. That's not to say that the experience was useless, like you mentioned, it was work experience, I learned a lot about how the industry worked and what the Engineering world really was. Just wanted to share something with you, thank you for this great video as always!

Great video! I think computer science especially, is something that you have to keep putting effort into. One point you mentioned in the video is that internships/jobs are always looking for experience, and how do you get experience without a job? You talked about this in your stream, but I don't think you mentioned it in this video; create your own experience through projects and research. Being in the process of getting or already having your degree isn't enough to land you that internship/job most of the time.
@souna8893 жыл бұрын
Like you, I would call myself an idiot when it comes to math. You say you struggled with math and I 150% relate. I just failed my final and most likely the class about an hour ago actually. To say I'm bad at math is an understatement and even if I do study I just forget everything when it's test time. Looking forward to retaking this class again I guess. I'm a computer science student also and I've been considered a sophomore for a while now. I can't advance in the degree because the math requirements are holding me back. I'm basically suffering at this point. I know people who have gotten jobs without a degree but that isn't realistic for everyone. Makes me feel shitty. I have applied for different internships (wouldn't really even bother applying for a full-time position right now since they wouldn't even look at me because I don't have a degree) and I still get rejected. My resume just sucks I guess. I have awesome people skills and the ability to problem solve as well as a respectable programming background which I feel should get me in the door for internships but they just reject me because of 1.) they don't like my resume and 2.) I'm not yet considered a 'junior' in college which to them is a gigantic deal. I don't really know how to improve the resume and school is taking me forever and a half. I just feel terrible about the whole situation, like I'm just spinning in a circle. I'm so sick of this. Long time watcher and maple player, would love advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:)

I also get that feeling of being behind sometimes. One piece of knowledge I'd like to give to anyone going in to computer science and are completely clueless: our brains are not made to think like a program. It is a gradual learning effort to think like a computer. One good way to practice is to do pseudo coding with flow charts and diagrams before doing the actual coding. I wish you all the best of luck! Thank you David for this informational video!

Not bad video. Speak of math the high school academics were too behind or too rushed for most students, which is unfortunate for most guys who loved to learn. I'm hands down a fan of math, but didn't learn a single aspect after circumference which would lead into algebra. So i drop out as well since i wasn't learning anything new. 4 yrs ago try Gr 12 math again and the dam teacher rushed through algebra like everyone should know it. Once he began at Pythagorean's Theorem i was okay i'm so lost & yet the majority you don't ever need to use . As you age you forget the useless math you were taught besides the basics. I love A=2x-Yx number shit, but never got the chance to learn it :(
