@@ZacBaldy its my dream car too but it’s so sad to know i’ll never own one. in where I live, Turkey, cars are so damn expensive. for example, the 350z’s are getting sold around 60K US dollars. and there are only 3 fd’s in the whole fricking country! and the saddest thing is, there are a lot of jdm fans in Turkey and most of them don’t have the money to buy any jdm car. It is not because we are poor, its because the cars are very expensive. even importing cars are either have too strict rules and too expensive. I really would like to move to an another country but there are a lot of people that does not want us in their country and I dunno why. and WE ARE NOT ARABS. we have our own language and we do not use the arabic alphabet. our ancestors are not arabs.

I have a Series 7, stock OMP; I've had it on track a few times, always rev-matching downshifts and using the engine braking. Several times I've even heard the upshift buzzer on the way *down* the gears. Zero problems. I can imagine it could be an issue if you're relying purely on premix, but the stock setup is fine. Mazda wouldn't have got away with selling a car that can't be left in gear down hills, especially with all the touge in Japan :-)
@lovetotrack
@lovetotrack 3 жыл бұрын
there's debate about engine braking when you remove the stock OMP and only premix. during engine brake, your injectors are basically closed (typically), so no fuel/premix getting into the engine to lube the seals. when you remove the OMP, you have to tune specially to add fuel during high vac (decel) to lube the seals. it's why you see rotary race car shoot 3 foot flames out the exhaust during braking.

Rotary life Zac. Just rev it. They don’t like lugging around. That’s the appeal of them. Just think of it this way. Your turbo Bridgeport is a hell of a lot quieter than an NA one.

Having a very light flywheel can cause many of the symptoms you were mentioning early on in the video (bucking at low RPM, difficulty starting out, extra clutch work). This is further emphasized by a low torque motor. My FD had an ultra light flywheel put on by a previous owner, when I redid the clutch I swapped it for something slightly heavier but still lighter than stock. The drive quality is dramatically better and I don't feel like I lost much if anything in performance. Just my two cents.

Great review bud - as an FD owner myself (who's also insecure, lol, I get embarrassed by the attention it gets too!) I totally get ya and you're bang on with the way they drive. They hate being cooped up in traffic and is genuinely difficult to drive this car slow. Like I get stuck behind a bunch of people on some twisty roads and they're doing 50mph (80kph) and it probably feels like they're doing a decent clip to them but the FD is just like a sulky racehorse at that speed.

i'm sure you can find a tuner to lower your idle down to 1500 rpm so you can cruise around at lower speed. when i bought my FD, the engine has large street port. the tuner had the idle at 1800 rpm. i hated sitting in traffic idling that high. i drop the idle down to 1k rpm and it still idle smooth.

Nice vid man!! I had a 13B J-Port (Jumbo Port) race engine in a 323 Station Wagon and that was excruciatingly hard to drive at first but you get used to it. Doing handbrake starts on hills required some serious fucking technical ability! I put a 6lb flywheel in mine and that was why the bucking and jumping was so extreme. Like a few dudes have said already getting a heavier fly wheel might smoothen out your ride in low rev's . Good work bro, brings back them buzz feels!

Really appreciate a fellow minded enthusiast. I love my modded loud-ish exhaust car but I also respect my neighbors and community so I try not to be too loud or fast at certain times or places and be mindful of others and vice versa open it up in places that are more acceptable. That's how you keep the community happy while still getting to enjoy our hobby. Otherwise you get government stepping in and ruining our fun if too many people complain. Starting to happen here in the US. EPA is trying to say it's illegal to modify consumer cars into "race cars".The "RPM act" is trying to preserve that right. If anyone else actually reads this please be mindful, do your part and don't mess it up for the rest of us by being a D-bag and annoying everyone.

you should drive around for 5-10 mins avoiding boost, just to get everything up to operating temp. you definitely need gauges for this car. and also definitely refill oil every 2-3 refills on the fuel pump. some people use an oil additive in their fuel tank, i dont know much about it, but it definitely seems to help the car. also wait like 30 seconds before turning the car off after hard driving to get the oil and coolant moving and clearing hotspots. hard driving being all driving with the rx7. this is as much as i could find with my research so far. man i kind of want an rx7. another thing, this car has some known transmission issues. you really have to be adequate with your clutchwork and be somewhat gentle to the shifter. look out for that 5th gear tho

Pre mixing provides oil when injected with the gas, people normally pre-mix if they have deleted the OMP or its just not there. Some people will still pre-mix even when they have an OMP, as extra “protection”. Think about it and it makes sense, I’d suggest it myself. - And you’re friends car probably blew up because they had a bad OMP - hot unlubricated rotary = engine go boom

When you dont have an OMP and purely premix, then you only get the apex seal's lubricated when you inject fuel, so when engine braking for longer durations with limited on-throttle action there is no fuel therefor no oil getting injected, which means the seals wear out Shouldn't be an issue with OMP Also shouldn't be an issue with pure premix when just doing just short duration engine braking like rolling up to a stop light, mostly an issue if you're engine braking all the way down a hill, and it becomes more of an issue the higher your engine braking RPMs are

So dont be worried unless you scimped on changing oil injector pump/injectors/lines when making a bridge port. From a fellow RX-7 owner. I can agree with your thougts about getting used to and that you can grow with the car and upgrade it acording to the drivers tast and skills.

I hope everyone understands this is a bad example of an rx7. I have owned my Fd since 98 and have none of the mentioned problems. Bridgeporting does hurt the drivability. Also if your flywheel is too light it will cause you to have to rev it high to drive. Never drive a Fd with cooling problems. It also sounds like some tunning may help your bucking issues. I personally premix and have never heard of blowing a rotary motor on deceleration. I decel all the time and my motor has been running strong for many years. I dont have to drive my car hard at all. I can cruise in any gear. At one point I did have bucking but I went from 1000cc primary injectors to 850 and the issue went away. Either way great video and I hope you get your car sorted out a little better. Enjoy and brap on.

No wonder RX7 motors break so early on, after 70 000kms those things need to be rebuilt most of the time because of how high it idles, how much u have to ride the clutch and how u always have to change at such high rpm has a lot of stress on the motor, very impractical but still a cool car

With the pre mix and engine braking it would most likely be if the car is running fuel cut when off throttle which also would cut lubrication so I'd be putting ignition cut off throttle when you get it tuned next or you may be able to do it on the access port. Its hard to avoid engine braking sometimes so the ignition cut in theroy should help it aswell as shooting sick flames

New subscriber. Amazing car always loved RX7. I had a couple 180sx from Japan. I sold both eventually. I feel like I got a bit old now for a import but my dream car to own was a R33GTR. Beautiful skyline on the drive way also. And what was the orange vehicle in the garage? Great video 🇨🇦🍻👋

That orange ute as we call it here in australia is a 2008 Ford Falcon XR8, which means it has a 5.4 V8, similar engines to the ones in your F150's from that time. That particular one has been supercharged to make 534hp. A ute is similar to the old Chevy El Camino or the Ford Ranchero from the day in your area

As a fellow rotor owner, pretty much everything you said was on point! People who have never driven a rotary engined car don't seem to get the difference between a reciprocal engine and a rotary engine, yet they will tell rotaries are shit! Their loss! Cheers for the video Zac...

I'll do anything to own a rotor. If you are loving how it sounds and we're loving how it sounds I'm pretty sure the looks you are getting aren't all bad looks. Confused probably. But I'll listen to brap brap all day.

Zac that's a good video but I have some info . The sequential turbo in the FD uses twins they are both the same size and are operated by a 'flapper' plate

Good video bro, u should leave the car on for a few minutes after parking to let the turbos cool down, although u did just a few pulls its really important to let the turbos cool down before stopping the car

Cool video. Engine braking won’t make a difference on a rotary. There will be plenty of residual oil circling around the housings when engine braking. I run a bridge with no factory OMP and just premix in the tank. All good. By the way, that bridge is wasted on the twin turbo setup. The twins can’t really breathe beyond 7k. Also, the twins are parallel so when the second one comes on both turbos are on to redline. It’s not like the Supra or Skyline where one turbo is larger than the other and takes over. The RX7 twins are the same size.
@cib2413
@cib2413 3 жыл бұрын
@@NineS5 On a RX-7 the twins are the same size and realistically capped at about 360whp. A single turbo is a better option for more power but the twins allow you to make positive boost from 2200 RPM until they run out of puff around 7000 RPM. A single will be laggier depending on what you buy but will make more power and a lot less heat.

I love these things however I know very minimal about them but one thing iv heard is these things break if you don't regularly rev them high as in if you just drive normally they break easy but if you regularly rev it out it will last longer which I find very unconventional but extremely interesting however I may be massively ill informed
