I lived in Gillette as a freshman, and honestly, I didn't think too much about how my dorm compared to others. I knew the others were nicer and bigger, but the overall commons experience made up for it. Like the energy of being a freshman (especially before people joined greek life) was one of my favorite times and you have a million things going on. If you're a freshman going into one of the older dorms be sure to cherish your time and just have a good attitude because before you know it, you'll look up and your time there will be done

As someone whose going to college (not at Vanderbilt) I'm really interested even though it doesn't really affect me directly

Graduated before the Commons was the Commons, but lived in several of the historic halls. Do not understand why when they renovated, Vanderbilt got rid of the laundry in the buildings...they all had laundry back in the day. Also, rooms in Gillette were rather large, not small. Guess they could get more money making them smaller. Last, but not least, my brother in law lived in West for 2 years in a room in the basement with no window. Don't think that would fly today. lol

Higher learning institutions should reconsider the traditional model of student housing. To foster a true sense of community and instill the knowledge and drive necessary to build a better future, students should be given the opportunity to live simply, perhaps with just a lawn and a tent, and learn to fend for themselves. This approach harkens back to the pioneering spirit that built America. Today, our society has become a plastic facade, divided by socio-economic tiers and plagued by insecurities. We are witnessing the same patterns that led to the collapse of past civilizations.

it's a simple concept basic logic if life is not free why the hell would death be any cheaper it's not. So the question one may wonder is the spiritual cost to one's own soul and spirit for having lived and died to the lowest standards of quality for so many years now global pollution has diminished the quality of life to the point where today's people are living, dying and yielding the worst spiritual kickback that has ever been manifested since the beginning of life only getting worse. The polar opposite extreme to that is today's people should be living and dying to the highest standards of quality which would make each and every moment physically, mentally, financially and spiritually beneficial.
