@@tbdr97 Erm... Theodore, could you re-read this and ask "If someone replied to my view about world population/abortion using exactly these words, how would I react?" For instance, on two ends of the reaction spectrum: - Would you want to look up more information about overpopulation/abortion even though no new ideas to research were provided and you've already formed a view based on your experiences, feelings, and facts that others have told you? - Would you feel your view is even more justified because the other side uses insults at the first opportunity and therefore doesn't have any substance to offer?

@@randycouch2769 It may help to look up abortion methods first. If God is good and wants what is good for us, do killings where we treat other humans far worse than slaughtering animals seem at all consistent with God's plan for us? Does killing other humans to try avoiding possible future suffering due to fewer resources per person help the situation? Alternatively, does it hurt us by making it harder to care about others in the short-term and preventing us from inventing better solutions that allow everyone to live, as we have in the centuries since 1798 when Thomas Malthus predicted overpopulation? If you want to talk about world population growth/decrease and what's sustainable, I'll be available tomorrow.

It's so important as Catholics to surround ourselves with non-Catholics bc they educate us on how to evangelize better. I love her approach and agree that we have to be patient and unafraid to be authentically ourselves and just live our faith. We are sons and daughters of a mighty God. I'm pretty grateful that I hardly knew anything about Catholicism until I was 19 or 20. Because I spent all my teenage years getting very immersed in secular culture and being inspired by all their goals for justice and equality. so i GET where most of these arguments are coming from. I used to believe most of them at some point, because there were a lot of Catholic teachings I didn't know about, and I didn't know that Catholics were supposed to agree with EVERYTHING the church said. I was very much a cafeteria Catholic haha. I also have more compassion for nonreligious people (even if they do make me want to tear my hair out a lot of the time haha) because I know they aren't trying to be selfish or hateful. They are trying to be rebellious, but they genuinely believe they are rebelling against something evil. They truly believe their ideals would make a better world. They come from a place of love... a lot of the time haha. Some things definitely come from a place of anger. But isn't that true for all of us haha. I think it is especially hard to avoid anger and to find peace and serenity when you don't have a source of absolute truth to look to. Everything is really confusing and frustrating and unsettled if you have a relativistic mindset. In the end society today is hurting, and they are trying to figure out how to resolve that. They associate evil with the traits of those who seemed to participate in it the most, which in most societies is those in power. And those in power tended to be (and still often are) straight, wealthy, white Christian men. They don't know enough about Christianity to distinguish it from all the Christians who have done evil things.

even just being a college student is sort of terrifying (and i'm an acting student so woo hoo even more anti-religious sentiment haha) because the kids these days just think Christianity is super evil! Within the past 6-9 months though, I've been increasingly inspired by Bible passages where Jesus and Saint Paul are super bold and blunt and don't withhold opinions out of fear of making people uncomfortable. They say the truth no matter what. So I've been talking more and more about God haha. I won't talk about the political issues unless I'm with a group of friends (this includes atheist friends!), and those conversations are usually about abortion because that's sort of necessary to change minds about, and then I also talk about how important I think marriage vows are and why I'm strongly opposed to diverse if a friend mentions something about not seeing the point to marriage anymore. As for gushing about how much I love Jesus and random Church teachings and the joy I get from Bible studies and cool things I learn from Catholic videos or podcasts, I'll like share that during class discussions if it's relevant haha. I just talk about Jesus ALL THE TIME and I do my best to not let fear hold me back. I want to share his beauty with everyone!!!!

That’s my cousin! She is very intelligent and very Catholic. Good advice on how to start discussing Catholic hot button issues with non-Catholics. I like that “You can’t understand that until you understand this first.” It’s true. When you’re building, you must start with the foundation. You can’t just start building the fifth floor first. It won’t work. It’ll fall down because it has nothing to hold it up. You cannot do Algebra until you know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. It’s difficult for me to go back to the basics like that because I’m a cradle Catholic. The way I learned was, to a point, different from the way converts to Catholicism learn because I learned basics as a child on a child’s level. So this helps me formulate a plan if I’m ever in the position to need to teach my faith to someone else.

Actually I tend to be up front not dodging questions in regards to the faith especially the moral questions. It would be like being ashamed of your faith in truth be being ashamed for being a Christian it would be like denying Christ. Someone asks you about your stance with abortion be truthful in what the Church teaches which is what you believe in. I disagree how she approaches others about the faith. The beginning of the journey is learning the faith which also includes the moral aspects of the faith.
