Going through this as a 16 year old must have been devastating. Not having anything familiar around or anyone to comfort you. I don’t know what your relationship with your foster parent was or is but driving you twice a day 2 1/2 hours each way to see your baby was very kind so that you could breast-feed. When I started watching the video I thought you were going to say that they didn’t allow you to go back-and-forth to breast-feed so that was a wonderful gift. I was a married adult when I had my second child and when I brought my baby home all of his things were in my bedroom because I didn’t want him in a separate bedroom. I wanted him close to me. It sounds like you had a bed for yourself and a crib for your baby and a pack and play which sounds like more than a lot of people have. It would’ve been nice if they provided you with some clothes and some personal hygiene products for sure but I’m glad that you were able to bring your baby home to a house and you were able to be with him that’s wonderful. I wish you nothing but the best in your life. Great video.

I’m surprised the hospital didn’t allow you to room in with your baby in NICU after you were discharged. Our hospital encourages this. I know it had to be so hard and scary for you to leave him.

None of the hospitals do that in my city, you might get to stay at Ronald mcdonald house

Great you had a good case manager and you’re a dedicated mom and sounds like your foster parents were supportive. Being in a strangers home is hard enough alone and then to have responsibility for a child…so tough. I was in foster homes and it was so hard.

I got pregnant when I was in foster care at age 17, I aged out a couple months before my son was born. I honestly wish I stayed in the system and allowed them to help me but I was stubborn and wanted to prove I could do it on my own.

She has a ton of self-control, I would be screaming if someone tried to take me away from my baby to a foster home.
