Freedom of speech means taking the good with the bad no matter how much you disagree with it but that doesn't mean you have to take crap from a troll either. We have just become too sensitive anymore without just knowing that most trolls will never say to someone's face what they can say through the protection of being 1000's of miles away from you. Don't really know much about the case but free speech is a good thing in the big scheme of things otherwise truth is subject to whatever lies the main stream media throws at you. You can always turn someone off, not follow them or boot them out if they get to be too much.

@ I have not read the tos, which is why said probably. Most TOS specifically say grievances go through arbitration. There wouldn’t ever be any grievances if the company hadn’t done something a player felt was wrong. So, yes the TOS is set up for when Kabam does something players don’t like. There is a reason why you don’t hear about countless lawsuits being won against these predatory mobile games. Almost everyone just agrees to the tos without reading them. And even if someone read them and didn’t like them, if they want to play the game, you have to agree to the TOS.

Heya Prof. Fan of your content for years, but I have to say I was disappointed you framed this as a “free speech” issue by saying that that could be in jeopardy. I would disagree for at least two reasons right off the bat. First, you mentioned that the person is in Canada and the Kabam legal offices are in America. Freedom of Speech is an American right and, not a lawyer but, I imagine would not apply across international borders. Second: freedom of speech, as represented in the American Bill of Rights, applies to the *government* retaliating against a citizen. Kabam can deny service without it being a freedom of speech issue. That gets to the crux of my disappointment. I assumed that, as a college professor, you would’ve known that and not communicated that incorrectly.

Unfortunately there are no clear parameters regarding the definition of what constitutes hate speech. Just big umbrella that covers the overly sensitive individuals from any raindrops that have the possibility of landing near them. For them, any speech can become hate speech if they deem it so. That just sounds like oppressive dictatorship control of how and what others say regardless of validity, meaning “anything” anyone might say can be taken out of context and judgment along with punishment can be rendered without allowing a defense.

The institution of marriage is recognized by governments, not just churches. The status of being married or single affects taxes, affects who has legal claim to your assets if you die without a will in place, etc. I’m sure plenty of gay marriages haven’t involved a church or the Bible at all.

@ many do and many don’t, marriage is a religious institution weather people want to admit it or not and you don’t have to be married to file taxes together, share a bank account or any assets for that matter. And you should be sure you have a will because being married doesn’t mean anything but a huge court case when you die unless everyone agrees.

@ Taking vows to commit to a partner doesn’t have to involve religion. Obviously marriage isn’t solely a religious institution if it can be done without the involvement of the church. The legal status of being married or single does affect other areas of people’s lives. If you want to add a spouse to medical insurance through your employer, you need to be legally married. What gay marriage has absolutely no affect on is my life, so I accept that my opinion about it shouldn’t matter to anyone.
