Lauren Simmons, an equity trader for Rosenblatt Securities, is the youngest woman to be a full-time broker in the New York Stock Exchange. She's only the second African-American female broker in the Exchange's 226-year history. According to a 2017 study by Stanford University, men comprise 75% of the wealth management field and fill more than 80% of leadership roles.

@@jeeeeeeeee2977 yeah, but she is pretty much just starting and earns commission on top of her salary. Plus many brokers on the floor of the nyse/ wall street specifically make more than 100k easily. She's probably more interested in what she does there rather than what she would have done in pharma. she'd probably be less relevant there than at the nyse. No body is interviewing or making movies about you so you're less relevant than she is haha

“Men just do it” it’s true. If they want a raise, they ask and just do it. If they want a higher position, they ask and just do it. Whereas women are so convinced with themselves that they’re going to be passed up or out down (it’s not unreasonable to expect that, especially as a woman, but it’s counterproductive).

I was born into a family business, which is leaded by nearly all the man in my family. If i learned one thing then its this. Dont think to much 'oh could i be the right person', just do it & tell them why you think you could be. Take risks (this is also trainable, especially in sports: skiing, acrobatics ect) Also learn to handle and use emotions wisely. Learn to detach in certain situations or to use your emotions focused to help ppl (the best salesppl work with positive attitude towards ppl, nearly coaching them with the product). Dont let your emotions own you - own your emotions (i am just telling these, bc i see many young women being unprofessional due to beeing overwhelmed by their emotions)

Jack Napier You are very mistaken. There are many things that are far from equal still. You would agree that in the 1900’s, women did not have nearly as many rights as men did. They only gained the right to vote in 1920. They were not given access to higher education, jobs, etc. You really believe things have flip-flopped in less than 100 years? Racism in our country is still alive despite slavery being abolished in 1865. Coming from the healthcare field, we do not care for women coming into the ER as well as men coming into the ER. We are taught to believe that women have “the hysteria,” and that their pain isn’t real. That is the real difference between men and women here.
@M4tchStickGirl

Jack Napier Other countries? Like 3rd world countries they are far behind in terms of education, technology, etc? Let’s talk sense here: in no way would it feel right if YOU worked harder, did things more efficiently, and got PAID LESS than the KID right next to you. That’s exactly what happened to me, so I took my services elsewhere where I could be appreciated. This should not happen on the basis of sex. If my IQ is 115 (as an analogy), why should I be paid less than this guy whose IQ Is 70 and struggling with the same task? This is not equal opportunity and you know it

My belief is that making a wise investment is a fantastic way to save money for the future as well as a way to generate passive income. Those who make poor mistakes early in life regret them later in life. But, if done alone, investing may be challenging and risky. For this reason, I suggest consulting experts for advice (financial advisors). The difficulty lies in effectively employing it, not just watching videos and reading investing books.

from what I understand, this is really common. people in natural sciences find there are tons of finance/programming/analyst/similar jobs for every 1 basic research job in their field, and they have the math skills to do finance, plus those jobs pay better, plus at that age they probably want to start a family and pay off student loans... so push comes to shove and they move to another field, something data- and research-driven.

I'm a woman and I work in the finance field. Not for a stock exchange company, but still. In Canada, we don't really look at what gender you are, how old you are or at your background. We have a lot of women working in the finance field, a ton of male nurses, and many other great examples of how stereotypes don't need to affect anything. I never saw finance as a "male only" profession, I've wanted to work with money, investments and everything finance-related all my life. I hope everyone would pursue their dreams, regardless of stereotypes.
