St. Ignatius (Loyola) and St. Paul used the image of the body for the Church and for the Society of Jesus (the name of the Jesuit Order). I feel that I am the neck of the body, that the head is Jesus Christ. And the Superior General (of the Jesuits) is the one who tries to assure the connection between the body (the Jesuits) and its head, that is Jesus Christ. And that is my task: to be the neck, to be the communication between the Society of Jesus (the Jesuit Order) and the head, Jesus Christ." I believe he was just using imagery of the body to describe that as a superior general of the order, he is trying to make sure that the Jesuit Order is always connected with Jesus Christ and his will and desires. I don't see how this elevates Fr. Arturo to the level of Jesus etc. Rather, he is trying to ensure that he and his Order are faithful to Jesus. Whether or not we think they are actually doing this, is a different story. Peace.

One of my favorite Jesuits who is eligible for sainthood is Father Rupert Mayer, an advocate of social justice alongside his fellow confrere Fr. Alfred Delp, both who suffered greatly against the Nazis and Communists during the years of the Weimar Republic and World War II. Delp died after many years of imprisonment at the Nazis while Father Rupert was conditionally released by them and spent the remainder of the war in strict seclusion in a Benedictine monastery in Ettal, Germany. He was allowed to attend Mass but wasn't allowed to offer the Holy Sacrifice; his mother was one of a few people he was granted to have supervised visitation rights while in custody. He bore all his sufferings in silence and seclusion until Allied forces liberated the town and released Father Rupert in captivity in May 1945. He was given a warm welcome by the town of Munich and offered a special Mass of reconciliation and healing as the townspeople were beginning to rebuild their homes and lives. On Nov 3, 1945, he died while saying Mass.
