‘They say reporting is worse than assault. And I definitely experienced that’ - This Nevada Air National Guard member was met with retaliation, not compassion, when she reported her sexual assault
(warning: distressing themes including sexual assault and suicide)

The worst part is, that you can’t just leave. If you can prove you’ve been sexually assaulted, they work harder to keep you close and under their control. That’s what happened to me. When I spoke up for a friend who went through it. She’s so mentally broken now, that she’s no use to any case or legal battle

I was physically assaulted and beaten so bad that I had to crawl to my car. When I tried to report it, senior military officials didn’t believe their solider did this to me. It’s like we are under their control. Reporting assaults is traumatizing.

Just an opinion, in no way associated with any gov agency. The mil is a very political organization. There's a reason no one actively serving can openly express their views to the public on problems big and small. This puts people like her (the reporter) on the defensive and the gov leaders on the offensive. This is why people are consistently treated like this, because everyone wants the perception that they are competent and can handle everything in their command despite obvious problems. Military justice is a joke.

As I get older, the more I realize that our government is very corrupt. It saddened me to realize this was the same in the military. I was in the air force, but due to my bad knees had to go to med-hold and get processed to be released. There were so many people doing nothing. I could just tell that we were all being purposefully punished for having to leave. Especially those with depression. They were treated worse than the individuals with physical health issues, like myself. I was just stuck there for months, getting paid and doing nothing. So much waste, and they're all getting paid with our tax dollars. It's absurd.

Service members who perpetrate those acts should be rooted out by their superiors, peers, and subordinates, and at the very least, be stripped of all awards, commendations, and rank, and punished by all applicable military and civil laws. Preferably shot, but that’s not currently allowed.

Not trying to start an argument or debate, but a little something I'd like to mention: One reason why even today people don't think military women should be allowed in combat, is because "men have an instinct to protect women, therefore a man would be too distracted because he'd be trying to protect the woman next to him." Well then, why do servicewomen even have to worry about being sexually harassed and/or sexually assaulted by their male comrades? Just saying...

I think they should be required to have at least one female (or male if the opposite assailant) investigator for cases like this. It should be very open and reported to the public - the assailant, not the victim. And if the assault is proven, castration should be a possible punishment - especially for someone who commits multiple assaults. If the punishment fit more of the crime I think that might be a deterrent.
