I fell in love with cruise ships with the very 1st time, I’m about to go on my 6th but it’s going to be a Transatlantic from Rome, I always advise people to try it just once, even if it’s 4 days.

We have done app 15 Transatlantics either direction. We love it! Great relaxation, lovely time to rewind. The next 3 on different cruise lines until March 2025 are already booked.

Very nice video. We are again doing a WB Transatlantic, this time on the HAL Rotterdam in October. Next April we will do our first EB Transatlantic on the HAL Nieuw Statendam. They are very relaxing!

@johnmatthews7703 We love HAL, have never done TA Cruise but want to! Having done multiple crossings do you have a recommendation on time of year to book?

@@jmulder6294 The westbound Transatlantics are nicer as the days with the time changes are longer. As far as when to book, it depends on how popular the ship is. We did the Transatlantic on the Oosterdam in Fall 2022. There were about 1,400 passengers so about 4/5ths full. This Fall I believe the Rotterdam will be a bit more crowded. Barcelona and Rotterdam are both easy to embark from. Civitavecchia is a bit more involved due to its location to Rome. Definitely give a Transatlantic a try!

We've done two - one on the Queen Mary 2 and one on Neiu Statendam - and are doing a nine day crossing out of Lisbon next month. We love crossings because you arrive rested and through a lot of the time change lag. My only issue of crossing out of Florida is that its so long. It's seven days just to the Azores so its quite a hike.

we did this cruise last year on HAL Nieuw Statendam, newer and slightly bigger than the Osterdam and we enjoyed all the ports in Spain. this year we crossed the Atlantic again on the Rotterdam, the flagship, from FLL to Rotterdam it was awesome. we booked a Transpacific Seattle /Yokohama foe next year on the Westerdam

I am looking into the 14-DAY CULTURAL CROSSING WITH MADEIRA AND GIBRALTAR on April 19, 2025. Same ship and seems same itinerary. Would you recommend the ports. I plan to stay for couple of days in Barcelona. Thoughts? Thank you.

My cruise in 2024 stopped at the Azores (not Madeira), Cadiz, Malaga, Cartagena, Alicante, and Barcelona. I loved the Azores and Malaga. I did my own thing in the Azores and hired a local guide for a walking tour of Malaga. I did a day trip to Seville on the day we were at Cadiz. One day was too rushed to see Seville. I wished I had stayed in port at Cadiz. Alicante was nice (like a smaller version of Malaga). Cartagena was disappointing. We did not stay over in Barcelona. I enjoyed the sea days as much as the port days. I enjoyed the adventure of crossing the Atlantic. I enjoyed meeting new people on the ship each day

@ Thank you for your response. I am excited to go on my first transatlantic cruise. I have not booked yet. I see great reviews for Oosterdam. Thank you again.

Did you have any rough seas? Does the roughness of the seas vary by month? Did you see anyone sea sick? thanks
@JDawgVideos
@JDawgVideos 8 ай бұрын
The seas were relatively calm. The Captain took a course more easterly than following the Gulf Stream. The clips in the video show what the seas were like. There was one day when we had 13-15ft swells. It didn't bother me or my brother (both former boaters). The gentle rolling made for good sleeping. Some did get sea sick, but they were few. Thanks for commenting.

The cruise lines are pretty good about avoiding rough seas, which is apparently rather easy. On our cruise prior to this one, 3 people had to be emergency vaced off the ship, due to pre-exiting conditions or anchoholism, it wasn't quite clear. No one got seasick. The older ships like this one are more stable in that regard than the newer ones, which have a different hull design. The Rotterdam was quite wobbly even in relatively calm seas, by comparison.

What was the easiest way to get a flight back to the US from Barcelona ??
@JDawgVideos
@JDawgVideos 7 ай бұрын
I needed to get back to the US thru either Boston or NY. A few flights connected thru Lisbon. I found it was easier to take a direct flight to London (2 hrs and about $200) and then get a direct flight to Bos or NY from Heathrow. From Heathrow there was also connecting flights to the US thru Dublin.

It's a long way down, the water is frigid and rough, and the ship moves along at a good clip. Are you suicidal or somehing?

We booked the cruise about a year in advance and got an early booking discount and a 60% discount on the Have it All Plan, which included the premium wifi, premium drink package, and all crew appreciation tips. We had a balcony room on Deck 8. Our cost of of the 14 day cruise for 2 people was $4,400. ($2,200 each). We each got $300 of On Board Credits which we used for shore excursions, 2 nights of premium dining, and I got another $250 OBC for owning CCL stock. We used the stock credit for the unlimited laundry package ($147 value).
