I think people dig for negative stories because they're looking for a heroic character who triumphed over their bullies. If they can tell a story about someone who overcame their struggles, it can be held up for others to inspire. Unfortunately, there often aren't enough bad stories to use without becoming repetitive, so they have to dig deeper for more bad or, heaven forbid, make it up or embellish. It is a real shame.people can't just be inspired by hearing that people are already supportive or don't bully. You'd think that would be a good thing, but I guess people can't live without drama lol.

Ive got a heroic story and I am an author now so I get asked all the time to write about it. I had a crushing poor childhood and became quite rich. But the truth is, as it is for almost everyone, it was basically pure blind luck. I had worked hard for 25 years and my company went randomly viral. Literally, NO ONE wants to read that. They want this story of amazing struggle and intelligence.

This is so nice to hear :) for me it's not genetics, but I've been through a ton of stress in my early 20s and started finding my first grey hairs at age 22/23. No matter how I part my hair, there is always a hand full of grey hairs. My natural colour is dark blonde so people keep telling me you can't see it until you get very close and look at my hair specifically. But I can see it and I'm very aware of it. It feels weird, like, I'm not upset about it? But I am quite focused on it whenever I remember while parting my hair or something. It's strange to look at. Not negative strange, but i can't stop looking for it, separating a grey one out to experience the different texture it has, etc. It's different from the first 20 years of my life. But it's subtle enough that I haven't exactly "gotten used to it" over the past 2 years. Idk, I would love to talk about my grey hair, because talking about stuff is how I sort my thoughts and connect to people. But when I bring it up everyone is so quick to dismiss it. It's always either older family members telling me it's nothing compared to their grey hair, or people saying nobody can tell so it's fine. Is it so much to ask that I just wanna talk about it, neutrally? Imagine any other neutral topic like idk what show you watched recently and people go "oh don't worry soon you won't think about it anymore" or "nobody can tell that you watched it so you're good :)". I just want to engage with it the same way I engage with every minor change in my life, by sharing with my friends and family.

The texture is different, it's kind of neat! And I was constantly parting my hair in different places trying to see if I was finally getting a neat streak! I of couse didn't, so now I have made my own with blue and purple dyes. The white hairs never really offended me the way these dang wrinkles that keep popping up (and now some accursed chin hairs) do.

*THE SHOCKING THING ABOUT THIS VIDEO* is that you are 30...!!! I thought you were about 24. Ironically the early greying makes it HARDER to judge your age I think. The dichotomy of the hair and the face tricks the mind.

I didn't go white as early as you did, finding my first white hairs when I was 20 years old. My dad immediately started saying I should dye it. I told him I wouldn't because I'd then be doing it forever and it cost a lot of money. Besides, I had two great aunts with silver hair, so I knew what I was in for. I'm 61 now and had full coverage for a couple of decades or so. (I was really sad when I no longer had a dark stripe in my ponytail.) "Grey" isn't just a trendy color among those dying their hair. I'm seeing more and more women let their hair grow naturally, which is fabulous. My children, both in their early 20s, have a lot of white hair. One has a streak coming in along the temple and the other has it scattered throughout. And, thankfully, they think it's cool. Thank you for your content. I love your hair. I admire the length!! And, I've really been enjoying all of your content. Thank you for sharing. I've subscribed! :)

I found my first gray in my 40’s and I tried to bleach and cover them. Until 2020, when I decided to allow my gray to come out and now, I’m starting to see more and I’m so excited about my gray! Wish I would’ve had your attitude in my younger years - it’s so exciting to see you embrace it all. Shalom and blessings.

So relatable O-O I'm also going gray at 30 and as a kid with lots of gray hair, I never got told anything mean. It was only when I got to my twenties that some older women (who I believe might have been upset with they're own graying situation) told me I would look more beautiful if I dyed my hair. It made me a bit upset, and I even dyed my hair crazy colors sometimes, but now that I am turning 32, I'm totally fine with the way my hair is (color and texture wise).

Thank you for your videos. I have been slowing growing greys in my hair since I turned 23 and it has been such an insecurity of mine. I am 28 now and the greys have increased drastically, which left me feeling very upset and feeling quite old and ugly. After seeing your videos and how beautiful and confident you are, I now feel more confident to allow my greys to grow out and hopefully I will learn to love them! Lots of love from Australia! ♥️

I think your hair is stunning. Mine started graying at 19, but a couple of weeks after my heart attack in my early 30's it went snow white except for a strip in the front center. Lol. I shaved my head when I was 42 and have grown it out since 2017 until now and it's just just past my waste. I have the exact same hair regime as you and thankfully no split ends...

My mom was fully grey at 35. In the early 10s, there was this trend of celebrities dying their hair grey, regardless of age. It influenced a lot of people to let out their natural grey and embrace it and keep it. When I look around in the city today, I don't see it as much as I used to. But now that people are used to seeing it, the confidence of people who embrace the look is still making them be perceived as rather fashionable compared to before the look was a trend with celebs for a while. I think that's great because you could also call it a trend that most people will try out eventually ;-) Thanks for sharing your story. I guess it would have been easier for my mother if celebs has brought that trend in way earlier than the early 10s but the world wasn't ready for it yet it seems.

Your hair looks gorgeous! Don't ever dye it. I remember once many, many years ago watching a daytime talk show that would sometimes do makeovers on volunteer audience members. (They had a live audience.) So this one lady with grey hair volunteered to have her hair dyed and get a new outfit. The "hair expert" kept going on and on about how old this lady looked with her grey hair and that it dragged down her looks. They dyed her hair a light reddish brown and the host, the "hair expert," and the audience were all oohing and aahing about how young she now looked. But to me the hair color was too harsh and made her look even older. They forgot that a new hair color emphasizes every line on the face whereas grey hair softens them because our skin tone changes as we lose the pigments in our hair. Which is why we have little old ladies who look sick when they dye their hair the color they had in their early years. (Is that just an American thing or is it world wide?) Another time a friend was telling about one of the ladies from her church who hated the fact she was going grey to the point she would pluck out every grey hair she found. Then one day at church one of the other member complimented her on her hair. The other person said that is was amazing how all her hair on the top and sides was still her original color and all the grey hair in the back was a lovely contrast. Turns out this lady forgot that we get grey in the back, too. I think after that she stopped pulling out the grey hairs and let it go. Personally, I just turned 68 and I have very little grey hair. But I know when it all turns I will be totally white. My mum was, her sister was, and so was my Granny. I look forward to that. Last summer I dyed my hair for the first time and had purple streaks put in and I'm debating whether or not to have it touched up.

I rarely write anything in the comment section but I just wanted to do so after seeing your video. I have to say that I love the gray/silver-ish coloured hair. In fact, when I was 15 I used to dream of having gray hair. Now that I'm 19, my goal is - I have long hair already reaching the top of my legs - to let them grow knee length and keep them long till the day they start to become gray, because long hair is what I like, and I would like to enjoy the pleasure of having a long beautiful braid of gray hair although my age. About negativity, I think it attracts people because they're not used to singularity in general - being showed in your clothes, hair, manner of life, morals, thoughts, etc - and they find it original and bold in some positive way to be able to assume this singular difference(s). So they often ask about negative remarks because they think singularity attracts nasty comments, and also because if they were in the same situation, that's what they would fear. But a fear is nothing but a mental projection of a negative thought, so by asking about negativity, it's like wanting to confirm those fears. And I also think there can be a part of concern in this, like checking if it didn't bring you any bad experiences.

I got quite excited, finding my first gray hair at 16. My grandmothers both had such beautiful gray hair... It's not actually progressed for me, but I'm very much looking forward to it when it happens. I think it's quite strange that people act like it's a bad thing or even that aging is a bad thing. It's obviously a very different scenario, but your story with the interview was very relatable to me somehow. I've had a lot of things that people have bullied me for, but some of the major things people fixate on expecting that bullying to be about are the things that meant the least to me. I think in some ways, people are looking to uncover stories they expect to hear from someone, but they often lack the knowledge or imagination to really understand or listen. They have a version of the world as they understand it, and are looking to slot people into that understanding, rather than trying to grow their own internal world to try better fit what's actually in front of them, or learn what that might be. I don't understand that, much, I have always been someone who is very hungry for more understanding and I had to work harder for understanding many things other people took for granted or seemed to come naturally to them. I'm used to expecting things in the world that other people experience to be very, very different to me or my experiences, but most people seem to expect other people to be like them, and I didn't start really getting to know people until after I left that expectation behind.

TBH, if we are talking about interviews (especially the one that wasn't published), I would guess it was because they didn't want to interview you, they wanted to interview a bully victim that was successful. Who doesn't love a success story? Especially when you can spin it as telling all the bad things that happened to person A will make person B feel better about all the bad things happening to them. Things that are distinctive are generally considered easy targets for bullying, so with your distinctive (and beautiful) hair they assumed you would fit nicely into the slot of bully victim.

It suits you wonderful! I think people want to hear 'bad' stories because it is quite unusual, and not something that gets much media coverage. They want to make it for greying teenagers to feel less insecure it sounds like. It's really too bad though that they focus on others' negative reactions instead of loving yourself and embracing your hair/body/whatever it may be. And could we please get a tutorial on the buns you're wearing, they're super pretty

Haha yeah I think I got my first grey at 7, and then regularly from 11 onwards. My hair goes fully silver-white though. It's still a bit darker in the back, so I sometimes look like rogue from X-Men. I'm 31. But!!! I've had similar experiences - people asking how I did it, what I dyed it with, and having to be like "...oh it grew that way." My FAVORITE is the older than me women at work in their 50's and 60's who clock it as natural and gush/compliment. Either they are also natural and we both love our hair, or they comment jealously they wish they were brave enough to stop dying and embrace the grey, and I tell them they'll still look BEAUTIFUL when they're ready for it!

I was sort of bullied for having very long hair (not gray) when I was a teenager (uncut, almost knee-length due to the rules of a religion I no longer follow neither intend to ever follow again) but I think it was more linked to ''let's bully the strange religious girl'' sort of thing when it came from other teens (sometimes it included touching or pulling my braids as well) rather than being about the hair itself. The adults were a mixed bag, many were very intrusive and make ''jokes'' about cutting it by force or how hair that long would ''rob my life force and health'' (nonsensical since I have always been tall and healthy) and some would think it was pretty and complain about how slowly their hair grew. Since it was the 2000s people also criticized the waviness/frizz of my natural hair since the fashion at the time was extremely straight, glassy, sleek hair. Now for the first time after leaving the religion, 10 years later, and after trying every haircut my heart wished, I'm growing it extra long again, this time by my own choice! It's already reaching my hips and I want at least 10 centimeters more (and for that I'm gonna have to learn to cut it myself since I lose 15 cm every time I go to the hair salon). I actually wrote this to thank this channel a lot since it really helped me to enjoy this new hairstyle phase I'm trying out right now and overall brings me a lot of joy every time there's a new video (not to mention the delight that is to see hair tutorials on her beautiful hair). Subscribe to the PrettyShepherd, people! You won't regret it! :D

Hi :) As a former journalism student, I've been told many a time that "A bad news is a good news". So to answer your question, I just think - based on what I learned in college - that people are in general drawn to anything that shocks them. Good news is great, sure, but it "doesn't sell" as good as a bad news does. Back in a day we were given an example of a plane (that it landed safely vs that it crashed). Soooooo to sum up, I guess people are just "designed" in a way that makes them interested in all sorts of negative stuff. Perhaps that's why the interviewer from your story acted this way. Anyway, have a lovely day, cheers!

Anna your hair is beautiful, full stop. Mother Nature decided to give you a unique healthy crowning feature as a gift and you rock it. Since you asked in your video about experiences with hair. I was bullied about my hair length and texture in middle school. My hair was short due to a parent not knowing how to manage a different texture than their own by doing home hair cuts. Which made the experience worse, since it was kept quite short. Additionally, Mother Nature thew a curveball by my hair texture changing at puberty from wavy to tight coils. It became super curly when I was 13, the coils were the diameter of a standard writing pencil. The average person and the majority of the population at my school had uninteresting straight hair and to be honest, everyone looked the same since the texture was the same. Here comes me, having textured hair but as a white person. So since it was different than what was considered normal, was part of the reason I was bullied. I am not mixed-race or Hispanic but that was something that came up due to the texture of my hair. I have lots of empathy for POC going through what they do, for using protective styles that manage their own unique hair texture. Certain what I experienced, was not even close to what POC goes through about their hair texture. With the help of an older sibling, I soon visited a hairstylist who specialized in curly hair. Eventually, I was able to get some length after about a decade to better pull out the coils. My hair is very dry so I use natural products for textured hair to keep my curls moisturized. Two weeks ago, I went to a stylist and had 6 inches off of my almost waist length hair. The current style is below my shoulder blades but when curly it is shoulder length. I have been going grey for 10 years now, the white hairs float on top of the coils, so they are a different texture. So I am hopeful that this next step in hair texture is better than the first.

Indeed you are Dead on a Hillside right about people focusing on the negative. Such a pity and waste of time and distorts reality. We live in increasingly kind times but are unaware of them. Not that we should ignore the things that need sorting out but let's be gratefull that we have the luxury of most of us being well fed and thus able to help those who are not. Journalists don't help but more of us complementing each other would improve our perception of the world . So let's not be shy but run a quiet campaign to say something nice to a stranger every day and switch perceptions.

I just found your channel, because I was looking for how to draw the Hungarian folk flowers and your video about them was interesting, I clicked on your channel to see if you had other interesting videos, and I will be honest, I was also wondering if it was the lightning or if you had coloured your hair in the flower video, I have never heard about people getting grey hair so early before, that’s really interesting. It also looks cool. Greetings from Denmark.

I got my first grey hairs around age 15! Dyed my hair and my roots for a long long time. But I stopped dyeing in my 30's and am almost fully grey now!

I've been thinking about this subject for a few years and tl;dr I call it pain-porn. My mom died when I was 7 years old and I have 2 younger sisters. I am often approached by strangers who ask me if I am her daughter (this is not uncommon in my tiny country). She was a very extroverted, fun person, loved by many, many people, and when she died, a tidal wave of grief went over the country, so a lot of people remember it like it was yesterday (it was more than 25 years ago). Anyways. The conversation mostly goes like this: Them: "Hi, I just have to ask if you are M's daughter" Me: "Yes, I am 😊" Them: "I can tell, you look so much like her... How old were you when she died?" Me: "7" Them *looks like someone hit them with a bowling ball of grief/shock/sadness*: "Oh my, that's so young... And you are the oldest, right? How old were your sisters?" Me: "3 and almost 2" Them *wants to hide under a duvet from pain*: "That is SO sad" Yes. It is sad. I believe that these people (99.9% are women btw) don't mean me any harm when they approach me, and that they simply started off wanting to reminisce, but I do believe that they get a hit of some "drug" when they ask, and an extra hit when they ask about my sisters. Maybe some sort of empathy high or adrenaline rush. I imagine that they imagine how horrible it was for our family and their adrenaline levels go up, just like when I myself have anxiety. To simplify: the same reason we listen to sad songs = we want to feel that person's sadness and if we are really sad ourselves, we want to wallow in it. That way the pain feels good. I don't know if this makes sense. I want to make it clear that I absolutely do not think that they are evil or do it consciously.

You look so much younger than 30! 😮 I thought you are (in your latest video, so at the age of 31) about 23! 😮 And yes, silver is THE most wanted hair color for the 20ies, sooo...perfect for you genetic! 😊 My boyfriend is 31 now, just like you, and his hair are turning grey quicker and quicker now. 😊 Ah and I'm sure the "Cruella" was for your coat not for your hair.

It certainly stands out and many things that stand out are reasons to get bullied. Also grey hair has a different, more coarse texture, so I don't understand how someone would mix it up with dyed hair which has also different texture 😅

Honestly I feel like teenagers feel they are going to be judged everywhere. I know I thougth that when I was a teen. But in reality, once you become an adult, most people are not mean to you for no reason on the street. Bullying is most common at the age of 10 to 14. Because at that age you are more judgmental and insecure. When you become an adult most people learn to respect each other

Unfortunately negative stories consistently generate more traffic, and are more likely to go viral. It's supposedly because negative emotions awaken the "passive masses" of viewers/readers who never interact with the media they consume. We tend to comment or share more when we are feeling angry or scared or threatened etc. It does not make for consistent user interaction though, not does it build up viewer/reader loyalty towards the media in question

Theory v-v; I don't think they were eager about bad stories v-v; I was sadly bullied, about age and hair. And for me I guess I liked the dark hair because I was bullied for having dark hair. so it going grey gutted me. I guess it depends on culture. you just come from a culture where people respect you. I was bullied for everything and the hair is just the 'new thing' people are using to outcast me with. I didn't watch this fishing for 'negativity' v-v but to try and maybe be ok with the grey hair, which haunted me because it didn't look pretty. I felt ashamed of it. But then I was made to feel ashamed about everything happening in my life even good things. Because I wasn't around positive or good people.

I think people assume you got bullied for it because kids don’t tend to do well with others looking different? Like I got left out for liking games or generally not caring for what I wore (I’m a woman) and got left out often because of it.

Hi! Are you into regenerative farming too?!!! That is awesome! Do you ever post videos on that topic. But also, we do know that brains have a negative bias of about 5 to 1 positive. Because we are wired for survival. So it is not surprising that for capturing the attention of the audience, news will be approached through a negative lens. Negative bias makes the subject "stickier".

My dance sister went fully gray at 18 but colored it till she was 30 and then decided just to let it fly. We all thought it was just a new color she was trying till she was like, “No, this is my real hair”. Ohhhhh snap.

I feel like the insistence that you must have been bullied is a type of bullying itself :/ I’m 44, started getting white hairs at my temples in my 20s but not a big deal. After 30, it escalated, and I used henna on it because I’d always wished my dark brown had more red/highlights/dimension to the color. Honestly, the last henna I used was in 2020, and I’ve just let it grow out since then. I have no idea how much original I have left, I can’t judge, maybe 50/50? Between that and letting the henna grow out, the texture has changed a bit. But mostly, I’m low-maintenance enough that I’m ok with it.

*YES, THIS HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME* I am now an author, I had a crushingly poor childhood eating pis feet and nettle once a week, when I was 45 I became a millionaire. In 2015 I suffered brain damage in a mugging and lost everything, became homeless and YES, I wore a book about it. But EVERYONE wants me to write a book about how I became rich. My agent, the readers, the editors. The answer is "LUCK" my company went viral. Literally, no one wants to read that.
