Hi guys. In planning our trip, we really wanted to see Milford Sound. Watched your videos Day 146 to 150. From what I researched, there is only one place to stay -Milford Sound Lodge. Unlike you, we won't be renting a camper (smart move on your part). The cheapest room at the lodge is $615.00/night. That's crazy. In watching the videos, I'm left with the feeling that a visit to Milford Sound is a roll of the dice (climate wise). Is it possible to tell people that you've seen New Zealand without ever have seen Milford Sound?

At this point you are much better off doing a day tour from Queenstown instead. That is what we recommend most. Aside from that, yeah Milford Sound is not a mandatory stop so you can skip it for time and money for sure :)

Thanks. It validates my concerns. Guess we will bypass and head for Queenstown

No worries, keep your Queenstown stay short too. It is expensive as well. Laura and I will be happy to go over your itinerary during a live session if you'd like :)

Was only sunny when I went, I'm kinda jealous, rain would've been better... oh well, I live in Christchurch so I can go down again another time and experience the rain there :)

What is name of Airport for Mildord sound? What is best month of raining in Milford?
@NZPocketGuide7 ай бұрын
The airport for Milford Sound is called Milford Sound Airport (MFN). It’s a small airport located right in the heart of Milford Sound, mainly serving scenic flights and charter flights. As for the best month regarding rain, Milford Sound is known for its high rainfall, receiving up to 7,000 mm annually. The rain contributes to the area's stunning waterfalls and lush scenery. However, if you want to experience Milford Sound with less rain, the driest months are typically June through August. That said, even in these months, rain is still common. Are you guys on their smallest vessels? As i noted that Real Journeys operate with a smaller vessels at 11am & 4.15pm (Nov~Mar) Any advise to choose on the vessels for Nature Cruises?
@NZPocketGuide6 жыл бұрын
No, we don't think this was their smallest vessel. However, out of the two times you suggested, we would recommend taking the 4.15pm cruise to enjoy a cruise with less people, as the 11am one is when all the bus tours will be taking their cruises. Do you have your own transport in NZ or will you take the bus?
@ZhiZheng93896 жыл бұрын
BackpackerGuide.NZ I was thinking a bus tour at first, as i was not sure i could handle the journey of driving to mildford sound(avalanche or bad storm might closed the road). But after i watch your video and article, i think it will be fine for me to drive into mildford sound during the last week of november. Somemore i should never miss those beautiful stop along the road. And so you would recommend to take the smallest vessels at 4.15pm instead of the vessels size like you guys took? And thanks for remind that i should avoid the buses tour period which might be bump with crowds.

You'll be fine driving yourself in November :) Just take plenty of breaks and take it easy on the winding roads. As for the vessel size, as far as we are aware, it doesn't really make a difference, but hey, give it a try and tell us what you think :)

BackpackerGuide.NZ Sure! Will try to share what i experienced with later on Nov :)
