I got 5 stars randomly while trying to complete my rock garden. I had so many mannequins scattered all over my island that I could barely walk around, and when I got done I had some weird looking white flowers on my island (which I later found out were Lily of the Valleys).

She just kept telling me more flowers more flowers so my sister went and dug up a whole bunch of her extra flowers but we're growing crazy and she didn't want them where they had grown and she brought them to my island and planted them on my cliffs but we had already done some placing of a whole bunch of musical instruments and a microphone stand and a microphone and chairs and all that to have like a concert area and she had told me when she did that that she might've overcrowded them. Well then she finally told me Isabel finally told me that everything looked good that my island had such a high rating that there really wasn't anything else I could do and that there was just this one little itsy-bitsy concern LOL and then she said that there was too much clutter around so my sister went and fixed the musical instruments and spaced them out A little bit and then we went and checked my rating again and it was a five star. I wasn't going to do any more flowers because my sister said I had more flowers than her and she didn't understand why Isabell was complaining about flowers. But when she went and got a bunch of hers that were already grown and put them on my cliffs Bam I shot up to a five.

(6:22) Fortunately, this is actually incorrect! Clutter only counts items dropped on the ground, not on furniture. I have 30+ “dropped” diys in stalls and on furniture throughout my island, and Isabelle still gives it a 5-star rating! Also, as you may have noticed from her video, buried items also have no effect on your island rating. If you wanna avoid having dropped items, you can bury em instead! I have a little field of buried turnips and I think it’s cute bc it makes it look like I’m harvesting them when I dig em up. :)

The first time I was able to get onto the cliff I found out I had a whole ton of pink lilies surrounding the heart-shaped pond purely because of my luck with rain. I was amazed at how many of them there were. I named the area the Lily-Heart Pond. I hate how you have to place a shit ton of furniture and trees just for the terraforming to even begin.

I hate having flowers EVERYWHERE and dropped to 4 stars whenever I took away the ones I hadn't designated in beds. To combat the need for flowers and my hatred of seeing them clutter my island, I planted them all along the back of cliffs and stopped them from spreading with Lily of the Valley plants. Flowers exist for the 5 star and I don't have to look at them. Win-win.

I found that in fact, putting loose items on a table or somewhere that isn't the ground doesn't effect your score. My island still spawning lily of the valley while I had a free DIY table and put my crafting resources on wood stools. Even when I ask Isabelle, she makes no comments about "clutter" or "trash" on the island.

My advice: Maybe try and get more Bridges / Inclines for a start, customise any items you have 2 or more of on your Island, and make sure to make "Themed" Areas.

I understand how FREAKING HARD IT IS TO GET 3 STARS, so here’s my guide: Flowers rly are a big deal, so I planted some on each villagers house (I always have 10 villagers btw) I only needed two bridges and 1 incline Make little spots for furniture and crap She’s KEPT saying I had too much stuff laying around, so I picked everything up, yes EVERYTHING. Don’t leave anything out on the ground. Just keep doing what Isabel says, there’s no easy way, which is annoying, YOU CAN DO THIS!!

The problem with clicking Y is if you are close to flowers you will pick them instead of filling the hole.

You need more villagers. When u have 8 you’ll get another star. Bury 99k bells in the golden spots, and buy everything from able and books cranny. After I upgraded those two and have 8 peeps you should be at or close to 3 stars

Ima sum up this video. (And one of my facts) In order to get five stars, you need to: - have at lease 10 villagers - fencing around ALL of the houses - a variety of flowers and trees - upgraded museum, resident services, nooks cranny and have able sisters. - at least two bridges and inclines (read annaebari’s comment) -no dropped extra items (shells do not count) -not to run into trees every like, two seconds (what isabell means by to de-clutter) -D.I.Y. Furniture, Nook’s cranny furniture, and nook miles furniture. That’s the video summed up :) (Ps- I was about to flatten out my island and this saved my butt!)

i had 5 stars for some time, and my island is absolute garbage. Only things on there: - about 60 gyroids placed directly next to each other in a big square (I was grinding) - my entire beaches being full of 10 of each flower variant - 10 trees of each kind arranged in an orchard, with maybe about 30 other trees being around - about 9 of each bush - a gigantic storage for bugs and fish I want to get models of (so 3x 30), divided on two places - only the 30 pieces of fencing placed that Tom Nook gives you - around 30 vegetables planted - no heavy decoration, only five or six lightly decorated areas with barely 10-15 items each - only two bridges, no inclines So technically, it's not too hard to get 5 stars. It's just hard if you also want it to look good

Having 5 stars is cool and all....but remember that this game was also created to make an island at your expense, just do what makes you happy, the star rating is just another feature that doesn’t have to be there, make your island that puts five stars on your heart :) (Shhhh I know it’s cheesy just go with it)

hiii for all people i have some tips to make a 5 star island: 1. Choose a style like: Dark, pink/cute, brown/green/cottagecore. 2. Make some cliffs its look more professional 3. Make some things for your island (in 1 style) and make things like a backery, library, or what you like. 4. Plant trees and flowers and look at social media for ideas

This is so good because it is a reminder that it is all a numbers thing. Your own creativity can create a 5-star island, not a specific creativity. If you get creativity envy from looking at youtube or reddit this is a huge relief.

According to data mines, there's an equation somewhat based on your friendship level with them, but it's essentially completely random. Star rating shouldn't have anything to do with it, that I know of

I actually reached 5 stars once, then dropped to 3 because i flattened my island, reach 5 stars again after decorating, and now 4 stars because i use dropped items as added decor. Wish they would not consider dropped items in tables and stalls as negative points.
