I was at my parents home when Elvis died. Mom and I were watching the news when it was announced. We turned to each other, and we both broke into tears. My Dad thought we were being silly. I think we both knew that it was end of an era. Still today, I think of him as having the best singing voice ever. He just can't be beat. No one has ever been as talented as he was. Elvis is still the King.

I don’t remember him actually dying but I remember watching tv and seeing all the thousands of people at Graceland lining the streets. I asked my dad who he was and he said very quietly ‘that was Elvis… and there’ll never be another…”

My sister was working as a redcoat at a Butlin's holiday camp in Ayr at the time and got in bother with bosses for playing Elvis songs all day over the Tannoy system. I was a teenager at the time and remember seeing it on the news.

I was 15 years old when Elvis died that fateful day it was a Tuesday afternoon on August the 16 th , I was in shock to know that he passed away from a heart attack!! Then from then on I was a fan we were in Germany at the time I never heard them play his music over there I had a radio , but never heard him sing until I went to a friend's house who had alot of his records I would listen to them for 3 hrs, then had to get home I had school the next day, then I knew what a great artist he was ,and wanted to know all about him his family and his family tree !! They were good people his parents and their son , who took him to church every Sunday, I will always miss him he had a short life !! But one thing he did was he lived it with all his movies and over 600 songs he recorded ,he's gone but his legacy will live on forever in the hearts of millions!! RIP 🙏 Elvis !!

I was first attracted by his looks! At the wee age of about 5. I heard "Can't Help Falling in Love" at that age although it had been out for a few years. But my dad had a record album with his picture on it and I remember saying "He is so handsome, daddy!" I was in LOVE and then when I heard the song...MAN! Even at that age, he got to me and I've been a huge fan ever since! That smile, those cheek bones! Those eyes and yes, those hips!!!

I had the same experience. I was seven when they announced he'd gotten married. I read that he was planning to marry Ginger on Christmas Eve. My younger brother said "you are going to cry when you find out what Elvis did. I was ready to hear that he had gotten married when my brother told me he passed away. I would've rather heard he got married.

My grandmother, two aunts, and very young cousins were in Memphis when Elvis died. Aunt heard that he had died, looked at the others, and said, "We've got to get out of here right now!" They'd been to Graceland before that day, and they cut the trip short by a couple of days. On the way out of Memphis, the road was clearly. The road going into Memphis was a virtual parking lot. Why people thought going to Memphis was a good idea, but there were and still are some die-hard fans.

Yes, there's millions and millions and millions of us all over the world. I wouldn't have left for anything. We went on the anniversary of his passing the next year. 1978. Stood in line for 6 hours with people from around the globe to walk past his grave. I had seen him in Vegas Dec. '76, as well as many times in Vegas back to '69 and I was taking it hard being there by his grave. It was like losing a close relative.
