The trick is not to worry about what people think of you . Do what you want but respect the law & other people when you are in their house .
@zengrath
@zengrath 2 жыл бұрын
absolutely. It's important in many ways to respect others beliefs even if you don't believe in them yourself but also don't let others with strong beliefs try and tell you what you can and cannot do based on their beliefs and not your own. Sadly we still have so many hateful people out there who judge others and are not afraid to say hateful things to others because they don't share same beliefs. These recent years in America has really shown my how unbelievably hateful my fellow American's are in recent years and it's incredibly unfortunate. I can't believe in 2022 that people are still judging and being hateful towards others simply for not sharing same beliefs. Our country has never been further divided then it is today.

well i'm mostly "ok" with what you think with only one small diference the "laws" part, tp be honest i don't even know most of the laws in my country exept the ones that go without saying i mostly follow to the letter "my personal laws" and the center point of them is "don't do to others what you don't want to be done to you!" i see that as my "honor" and i would prefer to die than "loose my honor" after in my country the "law books" are very expensive and i don't have the money for them ( i would prefer to eat than buy it) and secondary they are writted very small and my eyesight is extremely bad and even glasses can't help seeing better for me ( it's because my bad eyesight came from highty damaged nerves) So i deceided to "be strict with my honor and personal rules fir myself!".

In the US, tattoos are becoming extremely common and the stigma around tattoos are declining each year. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few more years not having a tattoo, of any kind/size, would be considered “odd”. At least, that’s how it’s like were I live.

In northern europe (scandinavia in particular) tattoos of the single-coloured* variety are so common that you don't even notice them any more (or rather, you notice them about the same as you'd notice a necklace). ( * the more colourful ones are still rare)
@zengrath

I've honestly never met anyone in USA who has a stigma at others for having tattoo's. I've only heard of some jobs requiring you to hide your tattoo's, ,for example you can't have tattoos visible if you work in Disney World. I know plenty of people who have no interest in getting tattoo's themselves, and that's myself included. I simply cannot understand why I would want to get a tattoo. but i would never put someone else down or judge them for having a tattoo. If you know of people who do, that's pretty crazy, i'd likely avoid that person, who knows what other much worst beliefs and hate they are hiding. Lately in recent years I've learned that people who are for example racists also have a lot of other hateful things that they believe in too along with it, these people seem to be in particular group of haters who just have this mindset of always wanting to be in conflict with others so they choose to be hateful in so many ways. You rarely will come across someone who simply has 1 hateful belief, usually they have a lot of them or none at all. So if i come across someone who is a racist or hateful to others for being different in some way, then there likely is a lot of other things they are also hateful for, and i personally found there no point in trying to discuss anything with them in a logical way and to keep your distance as much as possible. People like racists cannot be reasoned with, they are beyond help in my opinion.

Because most of the people who have tattoos in Japan are yakuza or anti-social groups. Not all of them, of course, but many of them have tattoos. That's why a lot of Japanese people are afraid of tattoos. Yeah, in America, tattoos may be accepted but every country has its own culture, its own way of thinking, its own history, so I think it's wrong to think that because it's the way it is in America, it should be the way it is in Japan.

Even on the western side of the world, you can't hug people without reason except if you're close enough. There are circumstances to allow you to do that, it does not just happen randomly. The same goes for house parties. Here, for example, we sometimes would offer help to clean up the house after a party. That is if you are invited to the party in the first place because not all people are invited to someone's party, even though they are in the same class as you. 08:27 What I know is usually it's the opposite, which is shorts can make someone looks taller. Although maybe some of them still get the clue exclusively from watching TV or surfing the internet, I'm thankful for Japanese people positively view foreigners. What they need is just the right source of culture and the will to learn about another side of the world than Japan. For myself, I'd like to experience other's country cultures as much as possible, but I think there are differences between just "experiencing it" and "adapting it" in our lives. In Indonesia, there are multiple cultures inside the country and we kind of used to learning about other cultures since childhood so it may be easier for us to understand other's cultures. Thank you for the video, Cathy!^^

Yea in USA I've never had a stranger hug me, i would not at all feel comfortable if they did. However while not a thing in USA there are some other western countries where it's normal for strangers to great each other by kissing each other on the cheek, which is something I've always found incredibly odd, however I'm doubtful they still do it these days since the pandemic.

Don't treat the entire western world as if it were only the USA. The US is a melting pot of multiple different cultures, so of course people would find that intimacy uncomfortable. It's a very self-centrist nation. However, everywhere else communities are usually more homogeneous or mutually involved so people are more friendly with one another even if it's strangers.

I mean it easy to do if people suffered a stiff enough deterrent and was enforced. So for instance if you did not wait to board the train and you where to receive a 100$ fine for each infraction and if you could not pay you would be forced to work on a cleaning crew then people, would obey or drive. If you are lax in enforcement then people will act like people. People forget that Japan punishment system is harsh, see what happens to people that are caught with pot for instance.

Cathy Cat and Director, let me explain what's even more fun than prom...after-prom parties ;). So basically after all the prom stuff, like taking a limo with your friends and prom date to the prom, dancing, and wearing fancy dresses/suits, you go to a huge house party where like +400 people (or all of your graduating class) from your high school attend. My year was hosted at a farm field outside of town, it had a paid DJ, kegs of beer, a bonfire where all the stoners smoke around, people sneaking into the forest to do naughty stuff, etc. However, you needed to know someone that knew someone who hosted the party and had to pay for tickets to get in and also somehow get your own drinks and lettuce (which you had to get some of the legal age to buy). Yeah...teenagers in rural towns in Canada get really bored so they do this sort of stuff

I'm sure it's very positive in other counties but not USA, at least not in places I've lived. I wish people here treated others with respect and had a positive attitude here in USA but, people here are always negative about everything, literally everything and I'm sick of it and even employee's are often rude and disconnected in most businesses. In USA people really only care about themselves and no one else, so unless your a family member or friend, people don't care at all about you here in USA. I wish we could borrow a little from Japanese culture and once again learn to respect others we don't know and maybe stop focusing on negatives of every single day and always blaming every little thing every day on government and politics. These recent years have made me ashamed to be an American, the ignorant and hatefulness in my country lately is way beyond anything I've seen before, everyone is always talking about conspiracy theories and misinformation as if they are fact and i fear there will be a lot of fighting in the upcoming years in our country. While i understand Japanese wishing to be more brave like westerners, it's not all good. Sometimes it's better for people to keep their hateful opinions to themselves, especially when they haven't even done any research to prove any of it.

It doesn't make them one-sidedly good, but sumo wrestiling is culture, and maiko and geisha are culture. These kind fo practices would ABSOLUTELY be judged as cults in USA, and exploitation of women and patrarchal worship of men, and whatever else, for their practices like PAINTING a face. The discipline is what makes it a culture, but with that comes community, and with that the American ideal of keeping people separate and abandoned, powerless and harmless, can't exist. ONE person can have their tattoo, group tattoos are scary. Europe used to have commedia dell'arte that America turned into clownshows and blackface, out fo NOT having discipline, and even Disney's Dumbo and Song of the South get canceled for shedding light to it. What culture is IN having a tattoo or a house party? what is the CONTENT, what are you DOING with a tattoo or in a house party, that you couldn't do WITHOUT? It seems these are just empty marketing concepts, exciting ideas with no inherent idea to them, that SEEM like they could be fun so they appeal to thoughtless youth. There's plenty of small talk in Japan, neighborhood ladies greet you and talk weather with you as long as you let them. America has this LACK of creating a common space, because the oppressive air in everything is that you MUST EXIST in a communal space and space of mind wherever you go, 24/7. That's why the emphasis is dismissing anyone else and the old ladies with their boring topics, and choosing ONLY to be around people you like. Then you don't need to waste time getting from tatemae to honne, you already only tolerate the CORRECT people who pretend to ahve such a honne when all they HAVE is the tatemae. And they are fiercely intolerant of behavior they don't like IF they have to coexist with it.

There is nothing that I want to do. I'm just forcing myself to squeeze out a solution in a socially acceptable way. Hugging between friends is a cultural difference and is rude in Japan. Other people's fashion is more complimentary in Japan. Outside of Japan, you'd give a loud field day, wouldn't you? All the way from the other side of the street. Most Japanese think home parties are a hassle, and tattoos are just used by the mafia as a criminal fashion to intimidate others, so no one admires them. It was half a century ago that the Japanese admired foreigners, and foreign countries are now obsolete for Japan.

I've also met Japanese students who actually really admire our cultural differences and have pointed out what they wish was in Japan. Hugging is also not socially acceptable here with strangers. Rather if people do it, it's usually only between friends and family.

I never met anyone in USA that judged others for having tattoo's. We all have access to internet and education these days do I don't get how people in 2022 can still be so hateful for things like this. If someone's religious beliefs or something for example makes them against getting a tattoo themselves, that's fine, but it's not ok for those people to impose their beliefs on others, that's when they cross a line that I do not find acceptable. Almost all wars in history is a result of people feeling the need to impose their beliefs on others and i just cannot tolerate it anymore. As long as your not breaking any laws and not harming others, i think it's important to practice your beliefs and not let others tell you your wrong because you don't share the same beliefs.

For your own information, Ask Japanese Team, most countries in the World use the Celsius Temperature System not the Imperial one so in the year 2022 typing "Today it feels like 98F" simply looks strange and even weird. Whereas "Today it feels like 36C" would have looked right and normal. For your information and for the next time. Thank you.

@zengrath

Not sure why that's a positive thing. I don't care for ever getting a tattoo myself but I would never look down on someone who does, sad people like you still exist in this world where you judge others for things like this. There are far more important things in this world to worry about, especially today, then if someone has a tattoo or not.

@@southcoastinventors6583 I don't judge anyone, not sure where you got that from. But not a fan of people who judge others and look down at others for having beliefs that differ then themselves, that's incredibly rude if you ask me. Clearly Tyk8 has a stigma or hate towards people having tattoo's based on the comment here, and that's really unfortunate there is still people today in 2022 who are still judging others. I'm tired of arguing with you people as to why it's not ok. I just got done talking to a bunch of racists in another video who made every excuse in world to me why it's still excusable to be a racist. So much hate still in this world. it's why we still have wars like the war in Ukraine right now, still a lot of old fashioned hateful people that instead of getting along with each other and learning to respect each other, they still choose to go to war and kill one another in 2022, really sad how many pathetic ignorant people in this world still exist. Why do people today still think it's better to kill each over a disagreement instead of working problems in a non-violent way?

It's because here in USA people don't care about anyone but themselves, they find every excuse not to get vaccinated or wear masks and don't care at all that over a million American's have now died. I wish we could borrow some of the respect that Japanese have for others, ,and actually think about others then ourselves when making decisions sometimes, especially in situations like the pandemic which is literally ruining peoples lives.

They wear masks because the city air is polluted. It has nothing to do with corona. People have been wearing masks in polluted cities for decades.
@zengrath
@zengrath 2 жыл бұрын
@@redmoonrise6507 Your wrong, Japan isn't China where pollution is such a major problem that people still wear masks regardless of the pandemic. You must have not watched this video to understand these comments. The girls in this video clearly said theory wish that they mask usage would lift and people can once again go without masks in Japan without judgement. So they clearly aren't talking about wearing masks due to pollution, they are talking about still needing to wear masks due to the pandemic. To be honest, this virus isn't ever going away, there is simply no chance that it will. So there will come a point in which a country like Japan will need to find a way to move forward and readjust it's policies because it's just not realistic that everyone will need to continue to wear masks forever now. I have a feeling it'll eventually come to a seasonal thing in countries like Japan, when a wave hits mask wearing will likely be temporarily enforced then when wave goes back down then restrictions can be lifted. But keeping country closed forever is really hurting a lot of businesses and the economy in Japan, does Japanese leaders really think that doing this is going to end the pandemic? I don't think it will. Most countries like USA has sadly long moved on with this pandemic and accepted it's never going away. Am i happy about it? no absolutely not, this pandemic would have died out within months or first year if people simply followed science and expert advised but majority of American's I know refused to listen to the scientists and decided instead to embrace misinformation and conspiracies and sadly it's their fault that the pandemic got as bad as it did, but any hope of uniting everyone to be on same page to get rid of this pandemic has long passed now and simply won't happen. So we have no choice but to move on and live with it. Sadly this will go in history books and one day this will be taught in schools to future generations the massive harm and damage and cost of lives when misinformation and conspiracies brainwash millions of people. Maybe one day American's will once again embrace the importance of fact checking and doing proper research. But sadly Americans are more ignorant and stupid then they have ever been in my lifetime. I'm absolutely sick of the damage my country has caused this worlds in these past years, really sick of the hate and ignorance in this country. People are now hunting down federal agents because they still believe that our last election was rigged because they still siding with misinformation and conspiracy instead of facts. We likely are going into a civil war soon between the ignorant conspiracy followers and the fact checkers in this country.
