Jesus likened his three days in 'hades' to the experience of Jonah. ( Matt 12:40 ). Was Jonah active in any way in the belly of the fish during that time? NO he was 'good as dead'! He proclaimed "You have brough up my life" he said to God!. Thus looking at Peter's words "He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit..." Then Peter continues that it was in that state, as the now resurrected state as a spirit he went off to "preach to the spirits in prison ( obviously the demons, with whom he had several encounters during his ministry!) This would have been during the "fourty days" before his ascension! ( See Acts 1:3). The notions tht while he was in 'hades' he preached to 'spirits' there is totally from Greek philosophy & mythology! Its a fact that the biblical 'Hades' is entirely DIFFERENT to the biblican one that is the gree equevelent of 'Sheol' ( hebrew) in the OT. It simply means 'the grave' the place of death' in which NONE are conscious! ( see Ecc 9:10 original hebrew text 'Sheol' ( Greek hades) & Ecc 3:20,21, Philosophy & Christianity blended , great shame!

Where do you think Paradise was? Paradise was the other side of hell, where believers were located BEFORE Christ's resurrection, also known as The Bosom of Abraham. Once Jesus was resurrected and in heaven, THEN those gates were open. I had just recently found this out myself, maybe just a year or two ago. Keep studying the scriptures!! God Bless:-)

@@brucetowell3432 The term “Abraham’s bosom” is found only once in the New Testament, in the story of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31). I personally don’t follow any manmade creeds. I do my best to “rightly divide the word of truth” directly from scripture and from sermons of great preachers and being a “Berean” searching the scripture to see if their words match. Abraham’s Bosom is “paradise”. This is where the Old Testament Saints went at death. They were resurrected with Jesus when he rose from the dead. They went to heaven with Jesus at his ascension. It was directly across from Hell until the resurrection. Paradise is now empty. When we die, we go directly to heaven when if we’re saved. Hell is still in existence. This is where the unsaved go at death. Hell is cast into the Lake of Fire after judgement.

According to the Moffatt translation, 1 Pet. 3:18-20 reads: "It was in the Spirit that Enoch also went and preached to the imprisoned spirits who had disobeyed at the time when God's patience held out during the construction of the ark in the days of Noah". It seems(and i'm leaning this way) that Peter is saying Enoch preached to the disobedient ppl in the Pre-Flood using the same Spirit that brought Christ back from the dead.

The statement of "what Jesus did in hades will shock you" is nothing more than a falsehood, for Jesus was DEAD for the three days he was in hades or mankind's common grave, being non-existent. At Matthew 12, when the Jews wanted Jesus to perform a sign, he told them: "A wicked and adulterous generation keeps on seeking a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Joʹnah the prophet. For just as Joʹnah was in the belly of the huge fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of man will be in the heart of the earth (dead) for three days and three nights."(Matt 12:38-40) Later, after Jesus had questioned his apostles as to whom they thought he was, since word had spread of him being John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the ancient prophets, with Peter telling him that he was "the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matt 16:13-16), "from that time forward, Jesus began explaining to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes and be KILLED, and on the third day be raised up."(Matt 16:21) Peter told the Jews on the day of Pentecost, according to the King James Bible, quoting Psalms 16:10 and saying: "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." This belief is based on Peter says in 1 Pet. 3:18-20. But if you read his words very carefully and without trying to insert any ideas into the text, you can easily see that Peter doesn't say a thing about Christ going to "hell" after He died to preach to anybody. The idea was formulated by Gnostics who didn't really believe that Christ died. The Catholics appropriated this belief, and then it was passed on to the Protestants with the Reformation.

This isn't true in the slightest, particularly because (1) Peter went on to state in Acts that David is still in his grave and (2) Gabriel tells Daniel at the end of his book that he will be resurrected to receive his inheritance. Christ consistently preached the resurrection of the dead, not a fable of going to Heaven or going into the hell to take ppl to Heaven. The fact that "Christians" believe this nonsense just proves their religion isn't based on scripture.
