The the 42nd pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans selected Kamari Lassiter, a cornerback for the Georgia Bulldogs who won two national championships before being selected by the Texans last week.
Josh & Leo discuss what we can expect from "the Locksmith" (his nickname) and if his perceived slowness due to his 40-time is a cause for concern. #Texans #WeAreTexans #HtownMade

He’s not slow he’s a lot down corner. He plays faster than the 40 time. People don’t get the chance to blow by him. He keeps them in front. And he actually ran a 4.5. this is a lockdown corner and a great pick.

I use RAS sometimes and several other metrics to see if a player has "enough athleticism" to make a probowl. Apparently Kamari does if he ran a 4.5. Even if you split the two times 4.65 and 4.51 and you come up with 4.55. He still makes the grade of a possible probowl corner. Which is a 70 abd above to go with college production. I grade cornerback production different. I grade it by lack of production on offense, lack of touchdowns, and yards given up. By how many snaps they played in college. Then of course quarterback rating against them. Kamari is top notch in all of those.

I think as time goes by this will be a great draft selection. Some of the best video of coverage I've seen is by Kamar since I watched Sauce. True technician. I think there is no way he isn't playing boundary corner at some point. Okudah is faster but I don't think he can hold off Kamari in technique.

The only thing you can knock Lassiter is that he doesn’t get a lot of INTs. But hey when you have Derrick Stingley to get those INTs and possibly Bullock getting some playing time and the ball hawk he is. Kamari don’t have to do that he can just lock down his man and knock those balls down with his recovery speed. He going to get playing time though he either at CB2 or CB3 because he more then capable to beat out Okudah Henderson King and Bryant (that guy we signed from New England) for one of those spots. I think him and Stingley are going to be a nice CB duo for the next 7 plus years

I think they will move him around. We won't know whre he sticks till the end of the year or perhaps when he comes into camp his second season. He'll be a great asset in the middle of the field because he is a sudden, explosive first step guy and a big hitter. he's not slow if you watch him play but some guys just don't get out the track and field stance as well as others. His short area quickness and change of direction is elite. A faster player with more long speed but has slower short area quickness isn't preferable...all their speed seems to come from make up pursuit like Nate Wiggins. He's fast as hell but you see him in a chase position all the time.

He ran a 4.5 at his schools Pro day. He will be fine with that time.

Just a funny little exercise I tried. You might like or appreciate this watching your channel. I went to the RAS calculator and dialed in Kamari Lassiter reported other 40 time. Plus his other combine results. All the sudden all his athletic scores go up by a lot to high 7.6 range. Instead of low athletic scores this pick was given. I went back and looked. Some of their worst CB scores include Xavien Howard at a 4. A few other Allstars worthy CBs who ran slower or tested terribly all around worse than Kamari. Some guys you might be surprised who had terribly agility scores and almost the same speed as Kamari who made the probowl rosters. If you go look up their probowl RAS ratings. Of course they had some great athletes too.

In other words interceptions can sometimes be irrelevant in my grading system. Especially if you get burned all the time. 😂

So besides the combine 40 time I would like to know his 40 times progression over the last 3yrs. To me him stickin in the hip pockets of WRs looks more like 4.47 game speed as compared to his combine

Now that I believe going off tape of him literally never getting burnt. Not even once. He played guys like Xavier Leggett. Who in theory should have ran right by him but actually looked slower than Kamari at times.

The main thing he brings is a 4.65 time in the 40. Very slow by NFL standards.

That ISN’T the main thing. The game film is the main thing, not some test that is largely irrelevant once you’re actually on the football field.

There is no way his actual time is 4.6 if his 3 cone and agility drills are so fast. Viewing his tape its more like the 4.5 reported. You can't be that slow while being that quick and hips so fluid. I believe the 4.5 time.
