I think hot press paper is also a preference for floral art, I noticed on the one I had it that the gradient are more defined rather than smooth. I forgot how useful hot press is for small details and I also plan to experiment with pencils over watercolors, so I'll keep hot press in mind. Thanks for the tips!! 😲

The watercolor doesn't necessarily absorb fast into the watercolor paper because it's hot pressed, it depends on the paper brand as well. You could try Arches, Saunders Waterford, Clarefontaine or other brands.

I like hot press for Bristol board type applications, fine lining, solid fields of color, I can see how cold press would give you more washy effects. Despite the less familiar paper your artwork looks amazing.

Just when I thought it looked amazing, you kept making it better and better. I'm a detail fiend so I always fought with the texture of cold press paper and my local hobby/art shops didn't have hot press paper for the longest time. Game changer for me when I started using it.

Hotpress is my favourite paper to work with, but it's definitely more temperamental. most 100% cotton cold press papers feel roughly the same to me, but hotpress can vary a lot brand from brand. arches is obviously good but my personal favourite is the winsor and newton 100% cotton hotpress. I think it's slightly less 'soft' compared to a lot of hotpress papers but still has great smoothness for pencil work and smooth layering.

I got a really big sheet of arches hot press watercolor paper for just $8 since it’s much cheaper than getting a pad, it’ll be a little annoying having to cut out the sizes I want and a couple of the sides aren’t cut straight but that’s okay, I’m gonna use this sheet more for getting the hang of hot pressed paper.

Shouldve drawn that male statue with a terryfied face. After all, he saw Medusa when she turned him into stone and knew what was happening to him. Would also fit the october theme better, imo. This looks just too calm and chill. Oh, and the irises shouldn't be visible either. Just make the eyes blank (eyeball only with no iris). That would've looked even more statue-like. Man, now I gave myself an idea for a new cool painting. I'm off. Ciao.
