It has just entered late June, and the weather is already very hot. This hot, sultry state is not conducive to the growth of many plants. Some cold-loving vegetables are no longer suitable for this temperature. What kind of vegetables can we grow at this time? Today, I will share with my friends several kinds of vegetables suitable for growing in summer. Later, I will briefly mention how to maintain vegetables in summer to get a better harvest. Let's take a look!
In summer, when the weather is hot, the heat resistance of the vegetables should be considered first when growing vegetables. Generally, you can plant some vegetables that prefer high temperature, or at the end of summer, plant some vegetables that can withstand high temperature in the seedling stage, so that they can be effective in the growing period. Avoid the high temperature. Below I recommend several such vegetables for your reference.
1. Water spinach: Water spinach is a vegetable that many friends who like to grow vegetables must grow in summer. This kind of vegetable has very few pests and diseases. And it has a high yield and a super fast growth rate. Water spinach is resistant to high temperature and humidity, and is easy to take care of, as long as the light time reaches more than four hours. Water spinach is very adaptable and grows vigorously. As long as there is sufficient water, it can grow very well. The most convenient way to grow water spinach is to directly use water spinach bought in the supermarket, remove the leaves, and use vegetable stems for cuttings. After rooting in the water, it is planted in the soil. Or use seeds to grow. The method of harvesting is: harvest the water spinach above 3cm from the ground. After a week or two, they can be harvested again. After harvesting, it will re-emerge new young leaves. Timely harvesting is the key to high yield and quality of water spinach.
2. Amaranth: Amaranth is rich in calcium, iron, and phosphorus, and is deeply loved by people. Amaranth is easy to grow, and there are basically no pests and diseases. Amaranth is not afraid of drying, not afraid of heat, the hotter, the more lush. Amaranth does not have high requirements on the soil. It can be planted in alkaline soil with flat terrain, convenient irrigation and drainage, and less weeds. Amaranth is more fertile, so apply foot fertilizer before plowing the soil and sprinkle seeds directly for sowing.
3. Fungus: Similar to water spinach and amaranth, fungus is not afraid of heat or moisture. It is a typical summer dish. The agaric has a high content of calcium and iron. The calcium content is 2 to 3 times that of spinach. The leaves of the fungus are big, thick, green and very beautiful. Just pick a few leaves and cook, it is very tender and delicious. The fungus vegetable is easy to grow, sowing the seeds, you can germinate in a few days. I planted a few mushrooms with milk bottles on the balcony, and they grew very well; the mushrooms are very easy to cut, and the cuttings are faster than planting with seeds. I used to cut the fungus that I bought in the supermarket and put it in a flower pot. The fungus is a climbing plant that grows indefinitely. Therefore, it is necessary to build a shelf for it to climb. When the fungus grows to a height of 30 to 35 cm, you can start harvesting, leaving only 3 to 4 leaves at the bottom. The fungus has a strong ability to grow branches. Each time you cut the shoots, you will quickly grow side buds. The fungus is resistant to high temperature and humidity, and the soil needs to be moist throughout the growth and development period, and most varieties do not have strict requirements for sunshine.
1. Water in the morning, not at noon. Some friends worried that the temperature was too high at noon in summer and the vegetables could not stand, so they watered them to cool down the heat. In fact, when watering at noon, the vegetable root system will suffer from metabolic disorders after being stimulated by cold water, which will seriously affect the growth. Therefore, it is best to water the vegetables in the summer before 10 o'clock in the morning, so as to cool down the temperature without harming the roots of the vegetables.
2. Water enough with small water, don't flood with big water: We usually think that a lot of watering can cool down the temperature and ground temperature, and let the vegetables get enough water. However, flood irrigation is easy to accumulate water, which can cause problems such as rotten roots and yellow leaves. So water in the summer, not too fast, and the amount of water cannot be too large.
3. Water evenly to avoid sudden dry and wet. Solanaceous fruits, melons and vegetables are in fruiting period, and sudden dryness and wetness can cause fruit cracking. If you grow tomatoes and melons, you need to pay special attention to this.
