People in Kpop are expected to have more talent and are not allowed to drink, smoke, drive, date, or even eat more than they should. Western artists are given much more freedom in my opinion.

What I like most about MAMAMOO is that there isn't just one member that stands out, like in most groups. All four members shine equally, and all of them have their individual charm. Solar has that powerful, feminine vibe with amazing vocals. Moonbyul has a boyish, masculine charm with her deep voice and passionate rap. Wheein holds chic and eye-catching energy, with her smooth voice and emotional singing. Hwasa has that sexy and mature feel, with her husky and soulful vocals and rap. Even off-stage, they're all really natural and funny. Solar has that yeba side to her, clumsy and kinda slow. Moonbyul is greasy and practical. Wheein is mischievous and cute, without having to do unnecessary aegyo. Hwasa is chill and has that relatable, girl-next-door personality. They're just so diverse as a group that it makes me wonder why they're so underappreciated internationally.

I don't thin that she wanted to bring big3's groups down :) and I think that she also wanted to highlight that mamamoo's members seem to have more freedom to act and express themselves than other idols, probably their company isn't too strict unlike bigger companies but I'm not 100% sure.

Jeicris Torio yes I understand that and special effects, styling, choreo, etc are all things added to make a performance more captivating but at its core it is music and they are singers. The extra things are there to improve upon and enhance the overall performance. Otherwise what would differentiate them from a dance team? Moreover the fact that too often these dance rountines actually detract from their singing and the audience is left with poor breathy vocals or just full blown lip syncing.

They first attack the heart of 1st and 2nd idol gen with their unic acapella intro and already cast by most of radio station in korea. People are impressed because at that time they are only a rookie idol. mamamoo is the only group can sync with eatch other for introduction. Mamamoo is the only group that sweep away all the university event. Mamamoo is the only group that have mostly event to attend like 4 event a day. Its in happy together when jaesok asked mamamoo. He said, he heard mamamoo is the queen of event. If im not mistaken red velvet is one of the guest. And they are quit of shock. Because to get 1 event per day is quit hard. Everytime they perform they amazed 1st and 2nd gen idol group with their stage presentation and vocal and will compliment them that it was awesome as if they are not a rookie idol.

I find it really interesting how most of the people that being interviewed here weren't really Mamamoo fans but they all know (or at least recognize) all 4 names of the members of Mamamoo. Most people in korea that are not into kpop doesn't really care about idol groups and would just recognize the most popular member of a those groups, but here the general public knew all the members name. I’m an international moo moo and this thrills me to no end to hear all this. Mamamoo is a lot like girl groups we have here bc not a lot of artists worry about choreography (they leave it for the backup dancers) and it’s their vocal abilities that rule the stage, except MMoo are exceptional dancers. Mamamoo is so unbelievably talented and yet they still don’t get the awards they deserve. Like currently the Soompi rankings are just 🤦🏻‍♀️ .... But the mere fact that ppl on the street acknowledge them as ARTISTS not idols is a huge compliment. Even JYP(the human) said it. This was a great video guys. Thanks for brightening up my morning 🥰

yeah as an imoomoo (and a new one) i really don't know much about korea music industry and their music culture. I don't follow kpop at all and just love mamamoo because of their amazing talents, great songs, great personality, amazing performances, their positive energy, and how they are so humble, down to earth and so relatable. I saw a few articles and comments about mamamoo getting hate comments, sexual harassment, threats, and people are making up petty "scandals" about them and that made me so sad. I know they are not perfect, but they are human beings. Yes they made some mistakes, but imo they didn't do it intentionally and without having any knowledge about what they did. seeing this video really calm me and make me happy. my girls are doing fine. There are still a lot of people who loves them and support them. I know they didn't get the fame or exposure they deserve but i believe they can go big, especially outside korea. Their music are so diverse and good, so people from different backgrounds can enjoy them.

but remember: Mamamoo are their own person. Their company isn’t so famous so they don’t control Mamamoo. Mamamoo can do whatever they want, they are free. They also never worry about reputation & the company let’s them dress like they want & not care at all. But the usual kpop industry is WAY worse. Bangtan Sonyeondan Idols show you what they can DO based on how long they’ve trained (singing dancing etc.) Artist show you what they can CREATE (music, scenery etc). If this doesn’t make sense then I’ll explain it differently. Idols have people make their music for them and focus more on performances then vocals. Artist write and produce their own music ( with the help of others sometimes) and care about performance but but vocals come first.

What I love about Mamamoo is that they became a household name in Korea without coming from one of the big three (SM, JYPE, YG) or HYBE, and I don't think people fully understand how hard that is. Trainees from one of these companies already had a fanbase built and a name backing them up, guaranteed success, but Mamamoo were the first idols of an entertainment company that no one has heard of, didn't have the typical idol looks or personality, not much in terms of promotion or popularity, only their talent and dedication to fall back on. Not to mention during a time where so many other idol groups that were conventionally prettier and more famous than them were debuting/performing. Against all of these odds, they made it. They really built themselves and RBW from the ground up

Got into mamamoo recently and I've been watching mamamoo videos these past few days. I've seen a lot of army becoming fans in the comment section and I'm one of them, I guess it's because in some ways they're actually quite alike, their carefreeness when performing, individual styles and creativity. Whitening is similar (in some case even the same) as brightening and is just to recover the skin from sun damage, acne scars etc, which would make the skin appear whiter.

nada 00 Any product that whitens or the term they like to use “brighten” your skin has chemicals in it. Some don’t have high levels of chemicals in it but chemicals are chemicals. When I order skin care products, I am very careful. As a black person, I love my skin and will not absolutely put any whitening or “brightening” products on my skin. I’ve seen a couple of KZbinrs living in various Asian countries say be careful when you buy skin care products such as face washes, lotions or even masks cause a lot of them have lightening ingredients and properties in it.

But unlike Germany, the Korean culture wasn't meddled with by America too much. They didn't care about the inner workings of Korea, as opposed to Central Europe. Therefore, traditional Korean beliefs and ethics are still very common: disapproval of nudity, homophobia, lack of mental health recognition, just to name a few. In short: they're country got artificially accelerated in terms of science, so its people didn't have the opportunity to slowly go along with the times. Their CEO said it: they're artists but in idol format. They're just so charismatic on-stage and likable in real life. I used to nitpick on idol choreography, like it doesn't matter if they sing live/well as long as the dance is flawless. Until Mamamoo. I didn't realize how much I was missing out on when I watched them perform live. because they sing live, they can interact with the audience, add little twists to their songs to suit the crowd. Also, their discography is so good and versatile it doesn't get boring (they're also involved in the production so that's a bonus) As a 4-member group, all singing parts are distributed equally. Each member have a distinct personality, style and vocal skill yet they complement each other so well. I'm so happy for Hwasa. I do think she has what it takes to make it in the west. With Wheein's departure next year, I hope they can still perform :(

Actually when they say people are kinda influenced by Hwasa's style of makeup and way of dressing, it's because Korea start to be more open to the western trends (like they said "strong makeup' or darker skins). @@moonsun1195 As a fan who ashamed of that episode, i understand how you feel. But still i cannot agree that she 'introduced' western style... You should know that episode was at right after her debut, before she became famous and change her style to dark skin. Before 'As of me' she had light makeup too. She just found out her charming point and people like her personality. I am very curious why western people think they own their beauty standards and character. they say people who likes white skin wants to be white people, and say people who like dark skin wants to follow the western trend. Western is not the middle of the world, and there are thousands of personalities and charms. in 2019-2020, i am glad hwasa's have been loved in korea.

Great interview! There is no other group like MMM. Personally, I fell for their unapologetic expression of themselves (what other gg would've sang songs about height issues, pink panties or sleeping in the car with the makeup on). They are down to earth, funny, kind, insanely talented girls. What is there not to love?

Yes, Mamamoo is always on their own. For the first time, I fell in love with a girl group and I thought I was idolizing a boy group. They have a style that really shakes girls even more than boys. Everything they have is great. Oh, I love Mamamoo

Mamamoo actually IS incomparable to other active girl groups these days. The only other four-member girl group that is at level with Mamamoo is their senior, Brown Eyed Girls. At least..that's what I think hahaha

Well really, there's nothing negative to say to MMM except from those that are made up and overly stretched misinterpretation of issues about them from the past. I Love Mamamoos. They Are Very Mature And So Free And Happy Together. Since They Come From A Small Company, They Ain't Pressured Into Anything And Don't Have Any Rules They Need To Obey Like Other Kpop Groups.
