When you dive into the plot, you’ll realize that Salazar was just a pawn in Saddler’s game the whole time. It led to innocent villagers becoming subjected to the fossilized plaga. It caused them to murder their children and any outsider that didn’t carry the same blood as them. The sociopathic tendencies of Saddler to manipulate a naive kid like Salazar makes him one of the most evil antagonist in the franchise.

When you dive even further, you realize everyone was a pawn, from Ashley to the cult; in order to finally draw out the Los Plagas sample. The entire plot was perpetrated by Wesker, who sent Krauser to kidnap Ashley for Los Illuminados, after Ada received Luis Serra’s email revealing the Los Plagas. Of course Saddler had his own rise and agenda, but once he was handed the president’s daughter, he was in Wesker’s hands. The story was never really just about saving Ashley. It was about preventing Los Plagas from being able to see the light of day.

Los Illuminados was manipulated unknowingly by the Organization Miranda’s cult was also assisted by the Connections, even with her own agenda, the Connections are all that’s left. Just as in the very beginning, Spencer claimed the isolated cultivations of the Ndipaya tribe, and when it couldn’t be cultivated domestically, they moved operations directly to the source. There is very clearly a shadow state or organization that is controlling the dissemination of these parasites

What really bothers me about the las plagas was how we hear no connections between them and the Progenitor flowers. It seems odd how there is a virus found in Africa that can literally reanimate bodies and mutate them where as the las Plagas can do the pretty much the same thing. The Progenitor, the Las Plagas, and the megamycete must have a strong connection somewhere.

I did not know the remake version of Nemesis had some Las Plagas in him, that's a nice way of connecting the games together. The original RE 4 was very stand alone and the remake series adding lor like this is a great idea. Las Plagas is definitely one of the more downright painful and unpleasant parasites to have.

Personally, what made RE4 (and every RE game, actually), so terrifying, was not the fact there was danger everywhere, nor the morbid gore and body horror everywhere, but the constant feeling of loneliness. That knowledge that you are completely alone in this long mission. You can't rely on anything or anyone, everything is up to you. This also makes cutscenes with other living people a very huge tension-relieving moment, specially with Ada in RE2 and RE4. It's just "nice to finally see another human" feeling.

The worst part of it is even though they are quarantined, that still means they are very much at large regardless. Obviously they have been contained to a point where most other places even within Europe like that Village from…well…VILLage was untouched by Las Plagas but traitors are still a huge factor even within organizations quarantining areas. Plus there are the mining areas where they may still reside as spore-like substances. They had remained that way for potentially thousands of years, maybe even longer than that. So I’d reckon a few more years wouldn’t cause them to dissipate. And when taking into account that all is needed is to breathe the spores in, that could mean huge ramifications for the future if somebody in that team, an infiltrator, screws everything over, say if they were some sympathizer of Saddler’s vision. But as DC Douglas said, yeah, Capcom isn’t always the most consistent especially regarding pure continuity. So all things said here are just hypothetical.

The Plaga and that flower virus incidentally shows something interesting about the world of resident evil. While Umbrella and others made mutations and monsters there is clearly a natural evil that occurs in this world. It does open the possibility of other natural monstrosities out there somewhere.

One thing I really liked about RE4 was that it was like a soft reboot for the series, where you didn't need to play the other games to enjoy this one, and it's mostly disconnected from the rest of the series before it. It expanded on the world a bit, showing that Umbrella and the zombie viruses weren't the only thing to worry about, and I think revealed that Wesker was still alive, though I'm not 100% sure about that one. Ada's campaign was fun, and unlocking ask the extras was just as fun.

4 Grew on me big time. But still....resident evil IS the umbrella corporation to me. Without umbrella, it just feels like every new game and villain is just a spin off of what it used to be and it waters down the lore more and more with every release. Also the apocalypse stuff that came later is too much. Such a huge part of resident evil for me, is the characters desperately trying to prevent that from happening. For me, the only pure resident evil is the original trilogy, and code veronica. I love 4 too. But it's a shame that resident evil has gone down this convoluted road and that there are no good movies that go back to basics.

Great. los iluminados were different villains and they were separate from Umbrella making them their own villains and showing us that Umbrella isn't the only villains out there. Salazar first Castellan was protecting the village and the world from the Las Plagas until generations later, Ramon took over. Saddler took advantage and convinced Ramon to release the Plagas. We're going to get a remake, I can see that some former Umbrella employees escape and meet up with the los iluminados and help them bring back the Las Plagas. Los iluminados will still be a different organization and some members are former Umbrella workers after Umbrella fell.

The Organization is the only “rival” to have ever obtained Los Plagas, that we know of, and that was in 2005. Given that the Connections discovered Megamycete and it’s similar mind controlling properties sometime in the 19th century. They most likely never came into contact with Los Plagas. However, unlike the Connections, the Organization has never been known to deploy or create BOWs. Every one of Ada’s missions have prevented the strain from reaching black markets.

Yo Hey Duvah, I just realised something that I've only noticed with the Ultra Frame Rate mode on ps5, this was the only recent thing I could find to tell you about it, in RE3make just after you get the key with Jill after meeting kendo, the very second you use the key check out the newspaper on the wall to ya right as you go through the gate, I could never read it on the PS4 but on the ps5 you can def read it it starts off with "Citizens Beware!" Then it goes on about Templars and the Illuminati, do you have any thoughts on that tid bit of info? because now I'm combing the game looking at every crook n nanny trying to find any other interesting bits of info, in fact I love stuff like this! I'm going to in great detail comb through the entire franchise and look for other stuff I've possibly over looked starting next weekend and see what I might uncover, ooooh! The zombie rabbit hole just got deeper! Most intriguing!

Ré 4 remake makes me wonder for gruesome scenes they never showed in the original but showed pictures. I wonder if they will actually show more memories of those who were there from the beginning. Mabye seeing these executions or mabye from that perspective of said butlers who are loyal to the Salazar family for generations. If your gonna remake game at least give it more thought of making the game somehow or someway be crucial for more re remakes down the road. Either way I’m excited that re 4 is getting a remake. Better be as gruesome and terrifying like the old school re4.🎉

I think what made Las Plagas so much scarier than the T Virus or G Virus was that you have to wait a long time for the parasite to take over your body, and you're alive and aware of it the whole time. The sense of slow, impending enslavement and doom is horrifying.

A few thoughts. Numbered for reference, in case anyone has replies. Sometimes people confuse my numbered lists for importance, if I'm not commenting on a top however many list... 1: Saddler could've just let Leon take Ashley back to the US and unwittingly help the cult. Instead, he shot himself in the foot by being too much of the mustache twirling villain that we all love... I haven't been able to purchase the remake yet to check it out, but in the original RE4, Saddler is really played well as the charismatic villain trope. If he weren't an evil cult leader, we'd be happy to have this guy come over for movie night (and watch The Thing [both the prequel and the Carpenter masterpiece]). 2: Tying in with that movie choice, I got the feeling that a majority of the visuals involving the plagas, as well as their ability to hibernate so well, was somewhat inspired by John Carpenter's The Thing. Granted body horror a whole tends to emulate this movie to some degree. But it really did feel like the game devs were either fans of the movie, or at least honoring it to some degree. The most glaring example of this is the Colmillos, seemingly referecing the ever-popular Jed-Thing (or Dog-Thing, for those who aren't superfans). 3: Something I'm surprised you didn't mention, which is by no means speculation. There's a document that states that the Plaga parasites take on some of the mental traits of the host, and that it simply takes an individual with a strong will to take control of the parasite within themselves. This is why Krauser and Leon are seen as trouble, when it's figured out that they both have a higher level of parasite than the ganados. Krauser's blade-arm is a result of Krauser willing the parasite to create that form. Same with Salazar and Saddler's transformations.

I rly love ur indepth comment so imma reply to it with my own thoughts 😁 1.yes ur right,as far as OG goes,saddler shot himself in the foot big time,but in remake its heavily implied thru files tht the reason he didn't let ashley go was cause she had to go thru a "ritual" involving the black liquid,since Ashley and leon were infected with standard plaga,and the issue with this is tht regular infected will attack ANY non infected ppl on sight,meanin if ashley went bk to her dad as she is,she'd attack him resulting in quite the international crisis,leadin to the US gov investigating heavily,eventually findin the Los illuminados and bombing them just like they did RC which is a big no no for saddler,esp whn at this point his plan didn't come to fruition which is take control quietly of the US gov in its entirety,think like "invasion of the body snatchers" movie 2.holy shit I didn't realize how similar it was to "the thing" the way u just explained it..whoa,haha fun fact : the lovecraftian movie "dagon" was actually a major influence for 4,infact mikami made his team watch this movie whn makin the game 3.hmm I don't remember willpower playing any factor in Las plaga infection or the parasite takin on traits of its host..mayb I missed somethin,if u can refer me to a file or wtever tht states sucha thing I'd appreciate it

I do believe they were referred to as “infidels” at som point. At any rate, it’s not a matter of being “barely pagan,” cuz they were in fact pagan. Which probably came from Father Nicola - one of the village founders who served as their religious leader. This reverence of their war goddess - the beautiful maiden who was said to have saved the village long ago - was eventually replaced with Miranda, an acclaimed miracle worker and prophet of her “Black God,” which we know to be the mold. Though interestingly enough, the four founders had seen the Giant’s Chalice as a holy object, and even served to protect it.

RE5 went the furthest in exploring this idea of an ancient civilization that used the Progenitor virus to grant themselves incredible powers, and I think the 'Tyrants' are probably a watered down version of how massive and lethal the ancient humans were.

Capcom did something cool and original that tied into the base games, while delivering a fresh and horrific experience. Especially paired with the new RE engine created specifically for RE 7, which gave us re 2 , 3 , Village, and 4 remake. Without re 7, none of this would have Been possible.

After all these years, I still haven't played RE4 yet; I've never really completed any RE game other than the first Revelations and Survivor. I always got stuck on a puzzle or area and couldn't figure out how to get through it. They do have RE4 on PS Plus, so I may download it and finally give it a go! The Remake looks amazing. Also just subscribed! Loving these in depth stories and bios!

I liked RE4's story. Most people say it took the series in a direction it shouldn't have gone, but I don't think that was the game's fault. It was within the realm of infections and monstrous mutations that the previous games displayed. RE4 is the only RE game I've really played, since I'm more of a Silent Hill fan, but RE4 will always have a high spot in my collection of video games. The las plagas concept is more horrifying than the other RE plots due to the idea of the victim's brain being taken over and their consciousness being wiped out. That's compared to a virus that simply makes the person die and reanimates them. The only downside to RE4 was the unresolved plot with Ashley. It seems like the process to remove her parasite was not the same as Leon's, and that made me think it didn't work on her. But we never get an answer to this.

Since Capcom doesn't remake the RE series within the timeline order, it means they need to explain how Leon & Krauser know each other in RE4 Remake. And maybe also a little bit of background story of Mike the helicopter pilot. Seeing Leon call the pilot's name without knowing who he is is a little bit weird for me.
