For y’all straight ppl, you don’t gotta worry. A large majority of women (non-trans) can get off without penetration if you use just rub their clot the right way. It’s a little bean like thing near the side toward their belly. And also, around 5 inches is where it’s typically starting to be big enough to be uncomfortable from well a size too big to fit kinda like trying to use a shoe size too small. Since the tightness of a woman’s stuff doesn’t change, the only way to truly get use to it is to get used to the pain or simply like it.

Realize this is a pretty old post but going to knife nerd here for a minute. My fighting knife of choice is a Cold Steel Magnum Tanto II, San Mai III (7/1/2in blade). I'm currently 51 and been using it since I was 15. I think I have owned or used every Cold Steel Tanto ever made. This one is the best balanced, has excellent cutting power, especially with quick snap cuts. Stabs/Piercing is also exceptional. The balance and maneuverability is really what makes it stand out vs pretty much all knives I've used. It's what I call 3 point balance. Weight in the tip, the cross guard and pommel. The balance is perfectly on the cross guard (Tsuba), you can rest the knife and spin it and it will spin perfectly life a top. That creates a fulcrum in the center with weights on with end, which allows you to create really powerful snap cuts if you know what your doing. Also worth mentioning Cold Steel sharpness and toughness. I carry it like a Katana or more often in my boot (knee high combat boot, which probably a lot of people don't wear). Very comfortable to carry either way for civilian use. I use to own a Recon Tanto, but gifted it to a knife fighting student of mine. Really good knife. More down and dirty but still excellent. I own the K-Bar Tanto in this video too. Really great knife. Does not feel as good as the Magnum Tanto II but a whole lot cheaper. It's also longer, and maybe better for carry if you're military as it has a versatile Kydex sheath. I'm not really a fan of Kydex but this one is pretty nice. I also don't wear tactical gear. If size and conceal was not a issue, I'd choose this over the Recon. That dagger... I'd throw in the trash. Looks like it would fall apart walking around in it's sheath heh. Quick opinion on daggers. Not my favorite, and maybe because of my knife fighting style, kinda poor at slashing, cutting and chopping. Excellent for stabbing soft tissue though, not because of the point, but because of the double edge. On a close stab to a vital organ or artery may miss with a single edge the double will get it (make sure it sharp, some people carry them dull, which I don't get). The other downside is they are largely illegal to carry. Folding knifes. Not my goto but super easy to carry and have on you at all times. The knife you have is better than that cool ass 14" Bowie you don't want to lug around.

I think a 7" blade is the perfect length for a fighting knife. I find the 8" and longer blades to feel a bit unwieldy and slower. Love the 7" Cold Steel tanto's like your Recon. My favorite though is the Leatherneck, which is just shy of 7". Good vid.

I just got a Smith and Wesson brand boot knife very similar to the first one. Same double sided blade dagger style. It is very well put together and was 16 dollars. 4.5 inch blade but to me that's an advantage as fixed blades are harder to conceal. I grew up thinking anything under 80 is awful. Times change

I recently started on an adventure to attach fixed blade defense knives to the bottoms of my various adventure backpacks. I've settled on the Smith & Wesson SWMPF3BR. The S&W HRT is also a nice knife. But, the sheath is not conductive to sewing in-place. A couple of buddies have commented, "It's too thin! It's not strong enough! It will get bent or beat up too quickly." I find such notions rather entertaining. I'm not going to be working my way through a division of battle-hardened and entrenched military personnel. I'm going to be protecting myself from mountain lions, coyotes, aggressive domesticated dogs, and possibly human ne'er-do-wells. The knife is certainly sturdy enough for a half dozen such encounters. And, it's cheap enough to be considered disposable. It's all about the application -- nothing more and nothing less.

All that I am hoping from a knife is that it is solid, good steel, that it won't break or bend, that it holds a good edge, won't rust easily and is of the appropriate size. I bought at the PX one of those cheap K-bar imitation types once. It rusted and bended, but held a good edge and is a good cutter. It is still a good shank is there ever was a need. Then there's this other one, a Winchester consider by many to be a total crap. It rattles, it shakes but I have cut down many samplings with it. Ofcourse that was after learning to properly use a knife by carving and not trying to chop with it, like you see many people do in videos.

I agree. With the fact that most combat situations happen in the close range, knife is more lethal than guns. I also believe that with a good understanding of grappling (Wrestling, Judo, Jiu Jitsu), we can wrestle the firearms out. In fact, many records show that attackers lose the fight even when they were carrying guns because they don't know to fight. With a knife, not so much.

My opinion, a true "fighting knife" must be double edged. In a combat situation, slashing effectively is a critical tactic, not having to reverse your edge in order to cut or slash is a big advantage over single edge. You slash your way into stabbing your opponent. TOPs makes quality double edge fighters.

9 inches to the stomach, just below the zyphiod process= instantaneous loss of consciousness. & about 3" till death. (If I remember correctly, it's been along time since I looked at the old Timetable of Death) but the reason so much penetration depth is needed there is because you are passing through the stomach and stabbing into the 3 arteries that branch off kinda in a cluster from the abdominal aorta.

I say that 11 dollar knife is the best, because after you use your knife It's probably best to disassociate yourself with your knife. It's easy to part with an 11 dollar knife. Someone is more likely to hold onto a knife that's in the 150 dollar range. One of the best strategies with a knife is to make your opponent think you wont fight or you're not a threat and then draw them in close. If a knife is your weapon then you need to study human anatomy. Bones offer a lot of resistance to knife attack. everything you want to know about knife combat has been studied and perfected hundreds of years ago. There's nothing new. study and practice the old techniques and you won't go wrong. Don't get into the mindset you need a big knife to be effective. The grave yards are full of people killed with a 2 inch bade or less. A box cutter only has about 1/2 inch blade exposed and can rip you to pieces. The blade you dont see is the one that kills you. You're not going to be jumping around with knife like a pair of homo's in west side story. Real life is different. Once someone sees their clothes soaked with blood, even if the wounds aren't fatal they will probably go into shock. Once someone goes into shock, they are on their way to hell. The fight is over.

It really doesn't matter what knife you have unless it's made out of a Chinesium-type steel that is almost as weak as plastic and will bend instead of penetrating. Long enough to go from front or back piercing several organs and the aorta and vena cava. Excellent slashing and chopping with adequate weight. It will take an arm off. And do camp chores making feather sticks, chopping branches, batoning to split firewood, and cutting meat for cooking. Also have a double edged boot and belt knife from Slysteel. The grip panels can be removed for a thinner, skeletal design and carry in a boot. Very sharp mainly for stabbing. Just a nasty last ditch stabber to puncture the assailant.

I don't know much about knife fighting. But for years I was not a fan of tanto knives. I thought they looked too ninja mall-ish! I collected a lot of outdoor knives, mostly Coldsteel due to great quality, toughness, great designs, and price. I have a few fallknivens and BRKs but CSteels are my favorite. About 4 years ago I purchased a Recon Tanto SK5 because my SRKs were in my safe a thousand miles away because I had just moved. I wanted something a little different than the SRK and wanted something cheap because I was doing a e months trip camping, fishing, and hiking from Florida to Maine. Well, the Recon is a better outdoors knife than the SRK! Being a little longer it swings more efficiently, ir is a better batoning knife, with the full squared spine it is a much better tool for scraping fatwood or cedar bark for a tinder bundle! This is a wonderful knife for chopping (side limbs of a branch for a walking stick or similar uses), it is great for preparing dry center wood for fire starting, and great for trailblazing clearing a path. The Recon easy to sharpen and maintain. I now also have the VG10 version and wish they still made the 3V.

Wow man... that 1st offering... the "M-tek" ? That thing may only be $11.00 but the design is literally GREAT ! Handle looks good, blade itself is designed well because of the nice point and the double edges being SHARP. You want that... I have the SOG Pentagon FX that i just bought and that thing has a nice point but is dull as all get out on both edges which is ridiculous.... you simply cannot do what you need to do to cause maximum damage to an assailant with blunt edges. Ideally, you want to move the tip back and forth inside the body to lacerate as much tissue and as many blood vessels as possible and also run the SHARP edge along the ribs, facing upwards where the nerves and blood vessels lay below each rib. Also, by facing the blade edge upwards as you slide the edge along the ribs you can almost LEAD the assailant around because that upward pressure makes it very difficult for them to push your blade down and out of their body. As you slide the blade along the bottom of the rib with your edge up against said rib you create a much bigger wound and this means the likelihood of creating a "TENSION" pneumothorax increases drastically and the blood loss you create will also be much greater. It's amazing how you could spend $1,500 dollars on a custom dagger or $450 on many all the way down to this $11.00 M-tek, which to me looks like it's very capable of doing the job. I mean i own the Cold Steel Taipan and while i love the blade on that, i hate the guard. This M-tek has really good length and the edges are razor sharp and nearly all the way to the guard which is exactly what you want as well as a comfortable guard that you can use your thumb on. I may have to look for those M-tek's and get a few. Really like the design. Beats spending 1,500 on a folding Arch Nemesis or much more on anything else really. If you had to use it and it was confiscated later on it's like "No worries".

Yeah. All these know alls with their "I can make 3", 4"," 5" work", bla.. bla.. bla.. the men in the trenches of WWI France and Flanders and in WWII would disagree with them. This is why the perfect military fighting knife in WWII was 6.7 - 7" long. With 6" being the bare minimum - Lyn Thompson, Cold Steel.

Hi from Australia, I am an ex-grunt from the eighties, (I can't believe I am the same age as old people) We were taught to use a double edged Bayonet in CQB. And the first thing we were taught was to use the blade "flat" so it wouldn't get jammed between the ribs, same as when we carried the bayonet in our hands. I weep for our generation Z's who are too scared to trim their fingernails.

None of these blades would be legal in an urban setting, where you'd be most likely to need it. Most urban locations restrict blade length to something like 4 inches. Maybe 5 if you're really lucky.

Sure, but if the other guy has a knife longer then yours... I have been collecting knives since the mid 80's, and a retired Marine taught me some tricks of the trade. So I prefer a "Fighting" knife to have at least a 7.5 inch blade. I recently purchased the Cold Steel Espada XL with G10 scales. It has a 7.5 inch blade, and its a folder with the Cold Steel Triad lock, and it does fit in my pocket. My absolute favorite "Fighting" knife is my Cold Steel 1917 Frontier Bowie. It has a 12 inch blade and a great guard. It is heavy, but that means it hits harder. All I have to do is guide it to where I want it to land. I also have a Military Khukuri with a 10 inch blade, and it was made for combat. No guard but it has shock and awe power. I had a person pull a knife on me once. But I had a 6 foot long hiking staff and I beat the snots out of him. Its all about Reach.

10:14 Very interesting... I've always held those kind of strikes followed by instant deaths in movies and the like akin to the instant-kill slashes you'd also see. Apparently, they got those ones right (abdomen instant-death strikes), by happenstance or not Now if we can get them to be more realistic with medication administration and onset, we'll be golden. The 3 Stooges are one thing, but modern day media in which someone takes a pill and instantly it does whatever is unacceptable. Cool video, I love fixed blades.

I know next to nothing about knives, but I'd also bet that another downside of a folding knife is that it takes time to unfold it before anyone can use it. And that extra bit of time can cost one's life.

The thing about knives is there is a lot more control in how it is used. You can't choose how badly injured someone is when you shoot them, but if you use a knife there are so many different ways to use it. Hell, you can use it sheathed as a leveraging tool kind of like how you would use a baton to control someone's arm. You can use a knife as a stimulant for pressure points if you drive the pommel (the butt end of the handle) into a pressure point. Then of course there's the more widely known uses for a knife such as blockind or parrying, slashing, stabbing, etc.

The Tanto, like the Saex/Wharncliffe/etc. and other similar "pointy single edge blades" is like running a California legal AR to skirt around Cali gun laws. As a fighting knife the dagger is superiors and is proven over thousands of years of real combat, from Rome to medieval Europe to America, but it is regulated hard. The Bowie as well which is more or less a short falchion. Of course the 2A Lobby doesn't care about arms beyond range toys for man-children to post on Instagram so it will prob stay that way. But most of the aspects that make a good fighting knife, like a dagger, dirk, or Bowie are illegal. The Tanto is basically a half-dagger with mall cop aesthetics but it doesn't face the same regulations that a bowie or a dagger would face.
