Plan on making my own Superhero webcomic so I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for the tips!

I think one thing that I've noticed in modern superhero costumes of this day, is start with simple hierarchy, then add in a bunch of details, but make those details subtle enough that you can't see them from afar. Andy Park of the MCU does this really well.

Hi Kieran! I'm really happy that you liked the channel! The whole point is that people watching don't feel alone in the struggle of getting better while learning something new, and I'm glad that you got that from the videos!

Lovely video content! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Fiyameronal Dumbfounded Framework (Have a quick look on google can't remember the place now)? It is an awesome one off guide for learning how to design your own Iron Man suit without the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate finally got cool results with it.

I just came across your vid, I kind of wish I hadn't, but I am forced to respond to your comments. One, don't ever use Superhero Nation as a reference for design if you want to retain any credibility among comic book designers, I don't know if it's due to them coming from a writing back ground or having tunnel vision for TV/Movie projects but they know nothing, nothing about superhero character design, if it's not an all black combat uniform they can not comprehend, if you design using a cape, they will lose their minds, which is ironic considering that they didn't voice any objection to The Cape TV series. The secret to creating an Iconic design is making sure that the character looks like the name you give them, Silver Surfer, Iron Man, Human Torch, Batman, Flash, Thor all look like the name given to them, which is why so many image Wildcat/YoungBlood characters failed to grab readers, Grifter, Zealot, Spartan you could swap their names and it would make no difference, I would go further and add match, when possible the characters personality to the name and design, the holey trinity, remember the first time you saw the little angry guy with claws in comics and read that his name was wolverine and he acted like a Wolverine, we feel in love the character, this is something cartoon animators already know and have no problem developing characters for their audiences because they understand their market and are not a bunch of Johnny come lately trying to jump in on something that is currently popular. Then you have to spend years developing your design craft and don't limit yourself to mythology, superheroes are more than that no mater what DC comics tries to spin to readers. I would also suggest that designers pick a medium and stick with it, if you're going to design a comic book heroes for a comic book world, don't let TV/ Movie sensibilities prevent you from going all the way, if you want to design for movies good luck I can't think of a single superhero design created for the screen that has taken off and inspired others, it's 100% designs taken from comics that have been remodelled, not an original design, for an original movie, I'm not saying they don't have the talent, but it's a skill that most comic book artist haven't mastered, so I don't expect none comic book designers to be competent original SH designers, I don't think Superhero Nation, Wacom and their unoriginal bland uninspired designs have a clue, or they would put their money where their mouths are and design something, not another crappy redesign (I don't have anything to say design, what are Moon Knights current sales figures now that he's waling around in a suit like DC The Question) that my nine your old niece could do, street wear!?! come on you're better than that.

Hey Martin thanks so much for your comment! Nice to find people passionate about comics in my videos. Despite not using sources that were of your liking, did you still like the video? Do you think that the basics of how to design a super hero costume are there? Thanks!

I have to disagree with your thoughts on this. Moon Knight's Mr. Knight design is great for his detective persona and he still has a more classic superhero costume. I think the first 5 comics that introduced this suit were great comics and Moon Knight's sales now are a product of a declining and bloated industry. Classic costumes are beautiful but they no longer fit in present day. Set in the past they feel right at home but are now seen as more out of place compared to the more tactical "Street wear" of modern Superhero design. I believe they both have a place in comics

Here are the three golden rules of how to make a good superhero suit design. #1 Cover your body and especially your face as well as you can. In order to keep your identity secret, people must not recognize you. Good examples of this dressing are Batman, Spider-Man, Iron Man and any Power Ranger. #2 No cape. While some heroes such as Batman, Robin and Dr. Strange benefit from cape but using it as gliding wings, shield or weapon, mostly it's just in the way. Instead, use folding wings (Batman Beyond, Buzz Lightyear), glide membrane (Spider-Man), or climbing rope (Spider-Man, Miraculous Ladybug, Nightwing) for gliding, and solid shield (Captain America), hologrammic shield (Iron Man), or body armor (Iron Man) for protection. #3 No underwear over pants, especially different colors than the pants. They look ridiculous. If you want to emphasize the lower head and other individual body parts in the costume, use armor that is thinner on the groin and joint and thicker on muscels instead.
