(This may be a dumb idea but meh i think it sounds like it has some potential) what about a sort of bayonet class, where the "stance" is holding it up to your chest like your aiming the rifle, and then you have one quick jab at the enemy. It could also have a side bullet feature that serves to diminish a small portion of the enemies sword once per round, as a way to force them into a parry before your attack?

I usually don't like quest specific games, they always feel like lesser versions of the beefier PC games, but this is definitely the first for me at least that doesn't come off that way. I'll have to give it a try when I can.

Just got my first TIE in this game. You wouldn't ever expect that to happen, but in the 5th round both my and the opponent's blade stomps permanently broke at the same time. I'm positively surprised that the game didn't softlock there. Got 6 rounds of battle in a single match there.

I would have loved to hear more about the sword breaking mechanics we're seeing here. I did Olympic fencing in high school and there's a lot of rules about perries in that, both right-of-way rules about who started moving forward first, and rules about the 'strong' part of the blade vs the 'weak' part (strong=closest to the hilt, weak = closest to the top) and how that dictates who got the perry and therefor the point when both participants hit each other at the same time. It looks like there's something to do with that in the sword breaking mechanic here and I love that idea.
@RuneArtifact

hey I was in a similar boat: I did some fencing and I picked up the game and main duelist (the closest class to fencing irl) I would recommend doing the same as it’s been a lot of fun. the games real strategy with the sword breaking mechanics aren’t really explained well in the video, however I promise you it’s really fun once you get it.

One gripe i had about the game is probably the one thing that everyone loves about it. The blocking. I have actually trained with swords, and you are always taught to block near your hilt and on the far side of their blade because of how much stronger you are compared to them. The thing is, this game wants the opposite. I constantly instinctively blocked like how i was trained and kept losing because of it. It became frustrating because i was fighting years of muscle memory. But i can still see the love that this game has put into it and respect the developers for it

We (BE devs) have a lot of respect for Ironlights. PvP Melee combat is one of the great challenges of VR, I think both games are pioneers of the genre (recognizing that Ironlights came first). I get triggered that many comments are dismissing us as a copy of Ironlights. We do everything differently: movement, blade clashes, offense, defense, health, everything is radically different! They have ranged attacks, we have Blade Arts and secondary blades. We also have different strategies to mitigate latency. And for the record, all of BE's main design orientation were set in stone when Ironlights released. It gets to me because it implies we disrespect Ironlights. Of course we can't ask for all comments to informed, weighted feedback (I can guess those persons didn't play the game or listen to this video). I think both games propose great takes on PvP VR Melee combat, and that both game focus on different aspects. We both are pushing the genre forward.

as a massive fan of "Swords of Gurrah" i feel obligated to try and point more people to that game. its a full movement, full body (minus kicks) pvp melee fighter. it also has a mechanic to prevent sword spamming. when your blade hits anything, be it the ground, another person, or another weapon, it shatters. your weapon also shatters if you get hit. getting hit or landing a hit, breaks both blades and they reform at the same time. the time it takes to reform depends on your parry (if you are defending) the closer to the hilt of the weapon you block, the faster your blade reforms (polearms parry is inbetween your hands) SoG is a super fun game, with a really fun skill floor and ceiling, theres no forced style to play as, but you can choose to fight in a more "roleplay-y" manner (the katana has a system that incentivizes sheathing and unsheathing your blade) to quote one steam review as well... "Best multiplayer melee combat for VR yet. Real combat techniques produce real results."

this game looks awesome!!! I loooove that awakening mechanic and the philosophy behind it, thats good game design!! it keeps things feeling fluid and not clunky while forcing you to be more practiced and move the weapon like you would a real one. the fighting styles feel just as stylized as the artstyle is!! speaking of, the artstyle is also very cool!! (although seeing whats going on seems to be difficult sometimes, perhaps players and weapons having a border or more contrast from the backgrounds could help there). looks like a ton of fun!! (dont have vr to ;w;) also, seeing as you compared it to Mortal Combat, I assume you've never heard of For Honor? I say that because For Honor is similar to this game in many ways and if you were familiar with it then you probably would have used it as a comparison instead of Mortal Combat. It's also in that 'kinda like a fighting game but also not, it's weird' category lol, you pick between different classes of medieval warriors across different factions (Knights, Vikings, Samurai, Wu Lin, and others!) and fight! its not a VR game but I really like it, and if you like this maybe you could take a look at it!

i would recommend you try ironlights for a different take on the "non-physics" VR pvp swordfighting genre...it uses regenerating weapons and slow motion during the fighting, managing energy used to make an attack, while your opponent defends, both of you with weapons that you need to regen via moving behind you, like a sort of windup... it's rather unique and really the best system ive found, as with broken edge ive found alot of twitchy kinda weird stuff going on at times that im not a fan of :L
