I own five Reverend guitars and one Reverend bass. No matter how many I play, whenever I try a new model, I'm surprised by how good they sound. You'd think I'd get used to it. They're phenomenal instruments, and yes I own and have played a lot of the "fancier," more expensive and "iconic" guitars. These are right up there, if not better in some cases.

After buying my first Reverend I knew I had to have more than one Reverend. First purchase was a jetstream 390 then my second purchase was a Pete Anderson eastsider S in my last trade / purchase was a reverend roundhouse in deep sea blue. Amazing guitars and probably the best guitars on the market for what you get.

@@AmbientEndeavors I just love the sparkly clean across each pickup configuration, it sounds great! Your tones and chord progressions are pretty close to what my band plays, I was very stoked to find a review of these guitars that wasn't just Am blues scales and cowboy chords haha. I may have missed it, what amp are you playing out of in this video?

Whoa that's crazy that you're reviewing this guitar! No joke, I actually had a dream last night that someone gifted me this guitar. I've been following your channel for a while and I was surprised to see this on my recommended section of KZbin this morning. About a year ago, I saw a video of David Bazan talking about his Charger HB, and that led me down a Reverend Guitar rabbit hole. I immediately realized that I want was he has, but with a P90 neck pick up and a maple fretboard. That led me to the Double Agent OG in Alpine Green. It's like the platonic form of a guitar IMO. I just started saving up to get one and just praying they don't raise their prices anytime soon 😬

I’m also a big fan and own 3 Reverends (20th Anniversary Double Agent W, Tommy Koffin and Charger RA). I also work in the music product industry, so I’ve been exposed to more brands than I can name. Great review! Solid really is the perfect descriptor for Reverend. They'll always hold a special place in my heart, as the Six Gun was the first "new" guitar I ever bought for myself (from proguitarshop back in 2011) and it served me well for many years. Since then I've owned 4 others from them - another Six Gun (newer model), the Eastsider T, Jetstream 390 and Warhawk 390. I gravitate more towards their shapes that are closer to traditional T-style and jazzmaster-esque offset and not quite as blob-y haha. Either way, the common thread has been that they've each been really well-crafted and well-set up, with really well-dialed in pickups and lots of thoughtful features that make them a joy to play & own like the standard locking tuners and pretty much perfect roasted maple necks. While they don't feel like quite as crazy a value as they used to back in the early 2010s (I think my OG six gun was $700 new), imo they're still priced very reasonably and you just know you're going to get a great guitar for the $. I think you can find em used in the $600-1000 range all day on reverb. Really can't go wrong with anything Reverend!

The perfect post-script to my video :D there is a lot to like about these guitars. I scrapped a whole bit about the price-point in the video, but I agree - in 2023 dollars they still feel quite competitive, especially in the used market when a number of the MIM Fenders are brushing up against $1k as well. The Jetstream 390s are so cool, and I'm low key eyeing a Flatrock too after playing this guy!
@saint__andrew
@saint__andrew Жыл бұрын
@@AmbientEndeavors Haha as a fellow christian midwest emo/post-rock kid, watching your vids I find myself wholeheartedly agreeing w/every thought you assert more often than not. It seems we have a lot of shared experiences and very similar tastes in both gear and music so its only natural my comment would be an extension of your vid! But yeah - totally agree. If I'm shopping for a solid body guitar in that $1000-ish price range I'm probably looking at reverends and even maybe rivoltas over fender depending on the pickup combo i'm after. but that is, of course, only if the balaguer ambient espada is out of stock ;) Heard a lot of awesome things about those retroblast pickups in the flatroc - they have em in the jetstream RB, too, if you like that jetstream body shape! been wanting to try one of those out.

That's my only gripe as well. Aren't their set necks supposed to be uniform across all set-neck models? And same for bolt-on necks? Somehow, some of my Reverends seem worse than others in this regard, but maybe I'm making it up. (Or maybe they've changed the neck ever so slightly over the years? I don't know.)

Nice playing! I have a Charger HB. Almost the same guitar other than the neck pickup. I ordered it online based on Reverend’s setup/qc reputation and it lived up to they hype. I’ve never seen a store that carries them. In a store I think it might be overwhelming as they have so many models that differ in slight but significant ways. The only gotcha with mine is I think their pickup height specifications are a little aggressively high. They sound better lowered down more where other manufacturers tend to spec humbuckers. I’d love to try their P-90s or Railhammer pickups some day.

I cant figure out why Reverend doesnt have that style body with p90(or two) and a humbucker with a Wilkinson(whammy bar). Basically this exact guitar with a whammy bar. They have every other combination possible, but that one. The closet they have is a (very)limited edition Double agent OG in kind of boring off white with a Bigsby, so it can be done. Not ideal but Id be fine with that in black or that purple on his guitar(which is beautiful). I guess Ill save up and by Johnny Marr's Jag. Nice to see someone playing something other than blues or jazz on a reverend(as someone else pointed out)

Yeah, I've found this specific model really work well for ambient sounds, and I think the bass contour opens up a lot of versatility for the genre because it "instantly" clears up your sound by rolling off bass. I lean toward pretty clean sparkly ambient guitar, and there is plenty of that in this guitar, while also being able to do big thick sounds with gain and bridge humbucker. I'm also a big fan of the Yamaha Revstars, Harmony Silhouette, and the Fender Player series - all would be worth checking out.
