Yeah if you think of it almost every hero had a tragic backstory... And they team up in the future and since they fought along side with each other I think they may have told their story and that's what makes them stronger and closer because they understand the pain of lost every one of them... And what even more chillin even the villains have this too... So it depends on how you see things you may turn evil because of pain and can't see the light anymore and you are not the light anymore or you be the light and make sure it dosn't happen to others... The lonest people are the kindest, The saddest people smile the brightest, The most damaged people are the wisest. All because they don't wish to see anyone else suffers the way they did. Heroes.
