I have had the pleasure of attending a number of Marc's workshops. His passion and teachings have been a huge influence in my own photography. His excitement of exploration and dedication to his workshop participants is second to none.

You describe Marc with love ,respect and admiration as I too feel about him .Having been in the field with him a few times ,I too have seen his exrtroverted and also quiet reflective sides.In my experience I have not seen him really alter what is there and what he sees as the drama of the landscape in quixotic and mercurial ,moody .He may blend a sky but I have seen it blended from the same photo shoot maybe minutes apart and tells the story of the true landscape and human being in evolution in that moment.Those who have been in the field with him know him also and equally for his passion,generosity and dedication to teaching .If you are open to it,he will guide you out of your mundane comfort zone and help you see and experience the landscape and yourself with new eyes.He will help you become a better artist and more nuanced version of you .I do not think it is highlighted enough to appreciate his gifts and dedication as teacher ,and loyal friend .He goes out of his way for such.This can be said of you ,Alister as well.Thank you for highlighting your thoughts about Marc and his work .I thought it necessary as a student to shout out the praises to a man who is dedicated to teaching to be the best version of you ,as the wind is howling on an icy slops etc and also tries to take care and teach you how to be safe and respectful in such places.Much appreciate your tribute to Marc as inspiration to all of us to dedicate ourselves to the appreciation and passionate honoring of our planet and betterment of ourselves and all that we love and brings us joy.That is to celebrate .

I agree. I have been following Marc's work for years. There are great podcasts where he talks about all wilderness travels (mostly alone) to capture and fully immerse in such scenery. His work truly shows his passion, talent and dedication. Inspirational!

Alister, Thanks so much for doing this video which is wonderful. I have long enjoyed and have been inspired by Marc's work going back to the early years of NPN for me as well. It was amazing to see the images that Marc posted there and to read his stories on capturing and processing those images. Happy New Year!

Marc has incredible vision with a wide angle lens. I've tried to get images that are even a quarter as good and always end up with way more distractions from going so wide. I'll definitely check out his most recent work for some much needed inspiration.

I've just finished your ebook "Creative Superpowers" and will be reading it for a second time to try to fully absorb the content. I think you have given me a reason to fell that my own way if seeing is valid, and I'm in the process of discovering what will happen next. There's a lot inside that needs to come out! Thanks for sharing this, greatly interesting. I think you did a great job of touching on Marc's artistic philosophy and that it is ok to be different and explore your own artistic vision when creating images. I don't worry about what is greatly accepted in photography world any longer, do what ever you want, just be honest about it. Since I started approaching my photography in those terms I have found new love in creating landscape images that I never had before. I too have had the pleasure of getting to know Marc, fascinating person and artist. What I came away with from taking two of his workshops this year, is that Marc is artist first, photographer second. One of things you touched on about Marc is that he really knows a lot about meteorology (he studied it ever since he was young boy) and there is none better at chasing and forecasting the weather than him. Since taking his workshops he has totally changed my artistic philosophy on how I create images now and in terms of photography has changed my life. I now for first time since I started doing landscape photography (21 years) can create the kind of images I always wanted to create but didn't know how. In terms of being a teacher, in my opinion there is none better than Marc. I have taken several workshops from other professional landscape photographers and nobody will work harder to make sure his students get portfolio grade images on his workshops. Marc never once pulled his camera out of his bag, he works with each student to make sure you come away with great images and how to do it. I got more portfolio grade images on just two of his workshops (one of them was only 2.5 days in southern Utah) then I have gotten on my own shooting in last 5 years. So for anyone thinking Marc workshops are too expensive or worth the money, I have never found better value out there. Marc will also never take you to iconic spots that have been shot over and over, you will only learn new spots that very few others even know about. His processing techniques are unique as well. All I can say is that if anyone is really serious about taking their landscape photography to the next level, take one of this workshops you won't regret it.

Thanks Alister for video , i don’t often comment but i always watch your content and i know it’s only a small thing to contribute but i make sure i give the thumbs up . but i have looked at marc’s website before and loved his work, but in connection to that feeling a bit down that a lot of photographers are all going to 100 mega pixels cameras and this is something i could never afford. when i looked at some of the images Marc has taken in the past it’s been with a Nikon D810 i think yes fantastic cameras. so look what you can achieve. Yes i print my work so it has lifted me with my 41 megapixel Sony A7riii keep up the good work Rob

Very enjoyable video. Ideally the passion that Marc shows for the dramatic landscape can be undiluted when we take our photograph of the Niagara Falls which in reality may be a little cascade on one of our local streams…

Thanks Alister. It would have been interesting to see how much Galen Rowell would have continued to push the envelope on photography had he been able to live more into this digital age. If memory serves, up to his death he expressed some reticence regarding taking it too far, at least without disclosure.

From my observation, I think we see the world more from 70mm than 50mm.. 50mm is still a little wider than our field of view..

This is the standard definition of 50mm: It has often been cited that 50mm lenses, when used on both film and digital 35mm SLRs is a ‘standard’ focal length. Anything longer than this is telephoto and anything wider is wide angle. The reason for this is that the perspective of a 50mm lens is similar to that of the human eye. Whilst our field of view is wider, the area in which we focus is similar to if you had a 50mm lens and subjects are rendered with a natural perspective.
