Monstera deliciosa is such a delicious fruit but you have to know how to eat the fruit. It must be ripe with the scales easily falling off on their own. This grows on a plant also know as swiss cheese plant and fruit salad plant.

That was the same image of Pineapple I've seen under a microscope a million times and not an example of what you're trying to explain. Correction: Both pineapple and this fruit have calcium oxalate needles within them. The image was definitely of a pineapple under the microscope and the needles are not what you have to worry about when eating the fruit unripe because those needles are absolutely safe and cause the same sensation a pineapple does when eaten. It's the OXALIC ACID that the fruit naturally contains and is converted during the ripening process. Oxalic acid is used to bleach wood and remove rust from metal.

This fruit takes around 6 months to fully develop and be ready to harvest. For those that don’t like waiting the trick to ripening the fruit quickly and all at once is to wrap it in newspaper or aluminum foil as soon as the initial part begins to ripen and wait two or three days to have a feast😊. Love your content. Big hug from Madeira Island, Portugal.🇵🇹

For some reason, we have this plant in our campus (i think it grew accidently), I just saw the fruit today and thought, hmm that seems familiar. It has started ripening so ill pluck tomorrow.

This fruit is a Delicious Monster. Well known in South Africa, but not many people know that they are edible. The Madeirans call is Banana Abacaxi which translates to Banana Pineapple. A real mix of flavours between banana and pineapple. Amazing fruit.

Unfortunately I lost mine last year. It was just getting to a large size with multiple hanging roots all along the vine with massive leaves. The greenhouse heating failed on a day it dropped to 14°F and it froze all the way through. Very sad because I grew it from seed. Keeping tropicals can be difficult.

The plant is beautiful and fun to grow. The fruit is dangerous if eaten at the wrong time. You have to make sure it is fully ripe and the cone doesn't ripen all at the same time.
