What a great build of a top car. Thank you for bring this one to us. Thank you to the owner. To all who helped with the build, Wow, Wow. A world class mariage of quality meets quality. Takes me back to the 70s. 2 EKs, HT, HJ 253, 4 speed, bucket seats.

Fabulous build! Glad someone else built their rig for themselves and not for 'a FB thinking' crowd! My 1st car was a stock white HK crashbox sedan. Helped me learn how to double-declutch shift and why it was better not to hit things! For my 2nd car, I fell in love with a previously played with powder blue HG sedan. Premier grille/headlights, GTS guards & bonnet, fully separate twin exhausts, 10-bolt LSD diff, & Ford XB mirrors. I finished it off with a high-ratio GTS steering box (very hard to park but fabulous to drive with), reinforced HK grease-nipple front end, running HQ discs, 7" 5-slot alloys shod with 205 NCTs and a full bucket-bench Premier interior. Sadly, the LT5 ZR1 motor I had lined up to import from the States fell through. C'est la vie!

It's great you have those memories. And I agree that people should build what they want to build for themselves. That's how I do it to. Thanks for your comment.

@@AussieGarage My next build had a somewhat different basis. Just after finishing my motor-mechanic apprenticeship, a 'hum drum' Datsun 1200 s/wagon entered my life. I had sxxx to haul around, but it needed some 'attention'. The poor 'big' bro of the 1167cc A12 called my attention, an A14. Re-bored, balanced and deserving of a complete GX1200 twin carb head, Igniton Development Bosch dizzy, a 5-spd, some suspension & brake upgrades but a stock cam so I could still tow a trailer when needed 'fitted' my 'off-grid' thinking. Some doubts before its completion finally had me realising that in fact I was proportionally moving from a 2V 302 to a 4V 351; I had less doubt. My 35km, daily drives, across peak-hour Melbourne to work at Holden's Experimental Engineering, soon taught me that lane changes in heavy traffic could be almost no problem at all; & such a buzz. Power to weight could be a very useful thing, even on a budget, & still some economy, too. Such a shame, that after being clocked (supposedly), at 185kph (meaning 7,000rpm in 5th), I didn't find a better purpose for it. That little rocket didn't enjoy being stopped by the rear end of some Sigma that found its way into my path, though not at that 'clocked' speed. We all lived to drive another day, bit not the 1200 or Sigma; not my proudest moment but apparently one should not drive after no sleep & think everything was going to be Ok, by some 'chance'. I've had worse bicycle accidents, but I do know I'm not a cat, with just 9 lives; as if! If you're still reading, keep up your great work. There are no other 'exciting' stories from me unless you're somehow interested in what can be done with a USD10,000 bicycle frameset, fxxx modifiying cars, there's a planet to save! Hence, my being happy enough driving a '96 Corolla 1.8 auto for many years now. It might almost have beaten the A14 1200! ;-) That A14 motor and g'box are still awaiting a new life, but not by me, I hate grease and grim, that's why I wax my bicycle chains and Holden ditched grease nipples with the HK's demise. Try greasing a prime mover & tri-axle trailer, then saying you're having fun! HDT, RR & Bentley cars didn't have any grease nipples.

I used to have one of those in the late 70's. Drove it from Bunbury to Cairns and back in 9 days. Had to replace 4 retreads and put new brushes in the alternator, but that was all.

I remember the EH "Pure Juice" very nice what ever happened to it? In fact what happened to all those modified cars fron the 70s to 80s there were so many back then even had a HR myself painted rootbeer with wildfire superX metal flake that got written off, some must be sitting in sheds somewhere they were to nice to just strip out and send to scrap but so many EH holdens, were done up, was even a car yard on Scarborough beach rd that only sold EH Holdens about where freeway is today
@AussieGarageАй бұрын
That's a good question. Maybe we should go looking and see what we can find.
@zoob7Ай бұрын
@AussieGarage that would be fantastic if you could uncover some of those old Holden's and falcons that were modified no matter what condition they are in they all used to parade by "chucking laps" around the city and Scarborough drags
