@@RickBeato Killer job as always Rick!! I've been watching the channel for about a year now and absolutely LOVE IT. I was super bummed when I recently realized you're in Atlanta. I'm from Cincinnati but I lived in Atlanta for 7 years. I wish I would have known of you then and had the chance to meet you and even possibly record with one of my 3 bands I was in as a drummer. What part of ATL are you in, if you don't mind me asking? I lived in east Atlanta village and absolutely loved walking into to the Earl on any given night and seeing absolutely amazing local and touring artists as well as catching some of my all time favorite bands at the Earl, Tabernacle, Terminal West, The Basement, 529 (AMAZING local talent there some nights) Variety Playhouse, The Loft, Eddies Attic, and Masquerade (RIP to the old building which was incredible) I miss Atlanta very much and wish I didn't leave often. The music scene has some incredible talent if you really look. If you haven't heard of the Atlanta band Challenger Deep, I HIGHLY suggest you check them out. They're insanely talented and are growing quite a following, rightfully so. Cheer Rick, keep up the great work and thanks a million for keeping me entertained, informed, and learning things I didn't know about some of my favorite artist. You're the man!!!

I also think it kind of humanizes the part being played. Makes it seem like it's a conversation more than just some random notes and harmonics that our ears pick up, giving time for the next part to build up a response if that makes any sense.

Guitarists often feel compelled to just rattle off a constant stream of notes at the listener, but sometimes the most dramatic and emotional element a solo are the notes you don't play.

14:55 - the sudden break from a wide open rocker to this spacious breath is part of what makes this song so incredible, and it's what we miss in contemporary songs. The song had scope and range and took time to move you through moods. It gave you more than 3 seconds for a mood or break to develop. And that's why it has such power. You can hear the audience scream when it chills out. That's the opposite of what you would expect, but it's natural and appropriate. It's a moment to appreciate where you've been and anticipate where it's going next. And it delivers. I grew up in the greatest era for pop music ever!

Great 100th episode. Funny story... when this album came out I was in college. My dad was into race-horsing and went to a party held by the Gentry Farms for the Keenland Horse Sale in Kentucky. My dad told me he met a really nice guy at the party. He told me he had long hair like me and was wearing a ruffled shirt with his tux. We were talking about horses. We got done talking and I asked him what he did for a living said he played rock music. He said maybe your kids have heard of me. My dad then ask me have you ever heard of a guy named Peter Frampton... Crazy.

Rick! Hey, for quite a while now I have really really enjoyed this series, but you put on a 'tour-de-force' for this one, I can't say enough about how wonderful this deep dive was for me! I've always really appreciated Frampton, his guitar mastery, and this album- but as a 40year+ guitar-hobbyist, i could never quite put my finger on why Frampton's solos were so awesome, nor why they stood out for me. I am blown away by your lick-for-lick demonstrations, such a motivator for an old guy who's hacked away at many a classic without much success. Really cool to highlight Mayo's work, he is now on my short list of under-appreciated keyboardists! And bringing in your friends to highlight the drums and keyboards was sooo enlightening, that really upped the game for me, seeing how talented all the artists were that contributed to Frampton's success. A fantastic 100th episode, I salute your dedication to bringing out the incredible depth of these incredibly talented musicians!

Oh my gosh!!! I was listening and enjoying EVERY MINUTE of this dissection of this so great of a song and I have a lasting personal memory of playing this song. I was in a band in Northern California, in the town of Pleasanton/Dublin. I was the drummer in "The Mogul Band" and we were a group that played ALL the high school dances for a few years. One of our guitarists came up with a talk box, at the height of the popularity of this song. This was in the 70's of course. I will never forget that our guitarist was on stage alone and simply said into the talk box: "Do You Feel Like We Do?" and the high school students in attendance, probably around 150 of them, already hyped up because they loved The Mogul Band, at his pronouncement - went crazy and then our other guitarist started playing the signature into riff and the students went even crazier. Well, for the next three hours, The Mogul Band could do no wrong. This is part of the reason about 10% of why I love this song so much. LOL - the other 90% is because it is such a completely great song!!!!! But I was seated at my drums in a very good band that the students loved. My Ludwig set sounded great and my playing was in pretty darn good shape because we were playing so much and consistently rehearsed every Tuesday and Thursday. Our Bass player was a guitar and English teacher at Dublin high, so we got to use the music room for rehearsals. No one in the band brought any drama to the rehearsals or live performances and no alcohol allowed when rehearsing or performing and no drugs of course. I am glad I have such a great memory to enjoy regarding playing this song, that I can still remember, vividly, after about 50 years from when I was playing drums with The Mogul Band and loving every minute.....B.Gardner - Las Vegas

Bob’s keys are KEY on that live album... I attended the Peter Frampton concert in Miami... Frampton headlined, the opening acts were Mother’s Finest and Gary Wright, I think it was 1976 or 77. What an epic concert. Peter Frampton is a genius - his whole band was awesome.

I’m 56. During my school years in Oregon City, OR, My best friend and neighbor lived across-the-suburban-street from me in a 1973 built split level house. Chris, my buddy to this day, had this quiet, gentle lithe and slender 4 year older “Swedish featured” shy Sister Barb. She had a giant huge Frampton poster on the wall over her bed. She had the double live album. One day the house was empty, but for me and my friend Chris. We snuck into her bedroom. We unsleeved her brand new Frampton album, and so gingerly lowered the needle to the album surface. When this sung played, I was over come with both the sensuous dynamic and gritty sexuality feeling to the music and vocals. That association remains to this day. I loved and love the song and the way the band communicated to the audience. But as always Beato makes the song new and exponentially better in manifold ways. THANK YOU!

Also when I saw you in Fort Lauderdale (Sunrise) FL in the beginning of 2005, I came home to my wife's pregnancy's test on my keyboard...Positive! What a night that was. Nobody talks about how AWESOME that bass is! Oh, the self control.... As a bassist, to stay SO grounded where all those amazing solos are happening, and being such an awesome bassist, the urge to add a cool lick ion the middle of those harmonies is so strong. But NO, SIR! He keep it simple, solid, consistent, right on spot. You might think that is an easy thing to do, but as a bassist I can tell you: The self control to be THAT solid is amazing. Peter Frampton was my idol in 1977. Gawd, I wore my copy of this record OUT, but never could toss it even though it's nowhere close to playable (yes, I still have it). I was never a musician, but I thought I knew every note of this track. How amazing to watch this (or any) "What Makes This Song Great" video and see you dissect each part. I often go back after watching your videos and listen to these tracks with "new" ears even though I know little about music theory or performance. I do know "feel", however, and I think the magic of Frampton is his ability to make us feel like he does. My wish as a fan since boyhood is that crowd reaction and responses to this 100th episode result in us returning the favor. Congrats on the milestone, Rick - it's amazing to know that as you're rapping with these guys, you're as big a fan as your subscribers are.

I never saw Peter in concert. I have his Detroit DVD and watched it many many times. All that said, I am not musical. My ear knows what it likes and it can catch when something sounds "off." But it amazes me just how complex music can be and this video on Peter's hallmark exemplifies that. Everything about this song is great. I love the organ/piano solo. Of course th voice box gives it something that others don't have. I remember a song back in the 50's where female singer's voice is given a vacillating echo sound to it as if it is far away and then moves in close. It still plays in my head from time to time but I have no idea who any it or what its name is. It is said that in heaven sounds will have color to them. I hope we hear Peter playing this there. The light show will be out of this world.

@@UncleHemi When I was a little guy, don't recall how old. Just that it was shortly after the Monkees : The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees was released. My big sister had just gotten it. She'd play it on the family console stereo/record player that was against the wall in the living room. Just above it about 6ft. up hanging on the wall, was a 6"x9" metal framed portrait of my father in his Navy uniform. Anytime someone would close the front door, that picture would swing out just a little bit. On the day that I slammed the door, that picture swung out far enough from the wall that it fell off its hook and landed corner side down on the above mentioned record album, leaving a catseye chip in it (tiny hole on impact side, big hole on the flip) . The song affected by the big hole was unplayable, but the song with the tiny hole only had a hiccup left in it. To this day, I still sing the hiccup version of "Daydream Believer" whenever I hear it...anybody within earshot of me singing along to it usually earns me a "WTF" look because the hiccup only happens once but since it lies on a part that's repeated several times, I employ the hiccup every time! And in case you're wondering, it went like this..."Cheer up sleepy Jean. Oh what can it -HICCUP- to a daydream believer and a homecoming queen".

Just think about how something like this would never ever not once get played on modern radio. Even with the irritating over-saturation of this song in your time, in my time no one cares about musicianship or has time for 10 minute solos. They want hits that sound like all the other hits. No fluff, no warmup just IM A HIT LISTEN TO ME then over and on to next one just like it. Being irritated by this song was a privilege and you didn’t even know it 😉

Funny. I don't remember this song at all! Guess I was listening to other groups.
