One thing you forgot....When Dhani Harrison re-launched Dark Horse Records, he said he would be taking the best recordings from The 1974 Dark Horse Tour, and try to put together a Live album that's worth listening to. His challenge is that Harrisons voice was pretty shot around that time, but he did sat there were songs where his voice was in good shape. He wants to compile the good tracks and make an enjoyable concert out of those songs. That might happen in 2022. Also, I would love to see them add The Apple Records "The Pope Smokes Dope" by David Peel to the Sometime in New York City box set/ There's an unreleased track entitled "AMERIKA" by David Peel and John & Yoko that was recorded for an Apple film entitled "Please Stand By". All this was done around The Sometime in New York City period. As far as video goes, they should add the Ten for Two concert footage with John Lennon and David Peel playing stand up washboard bass.

Sometime in New York City was arguably the lowest point of Lennon’s solo albums. Will this appeal as an expanded release? I’d love to see London Town as an archive. One of my favourite Wings albums with many overlooked tunes on it. Revolver would get us all very excited and would be a huge success, if it can be remixed.

I certainly hope London Town and Back To The Egg get released this year. I always thought that Paul's hesitancy to release that album was due to it not being as happier an album for him as the previous Wings albums were. The obvious reason on this one was Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English leaving the band before the album's completion. Paul some years later was quoted as saying that he wasn't happy with the sound mix. The legal issue over the "Rockestra" concert footage being the reason for the Back To The Egg delay was something as a surprise! I hope that gets resolved too!.

I went to one of the Abbey Road shows 3 years ago and they played part of She Loves You if I recall, where they’d managed to separate the guitar parts from the original tapes. This was to demonstrate how they’re using computers to “learn” to listen to and separate individual instruments and voices from these early mixes. Can’t wait for the Revolver album and backwards from there to be remixed, reissued and given special editions.

As a big Beatles fan I've been really impressed with the anniversary box sets since 2017 (Sgt Pepper, The Beatles, Abbey Road, Let It Be), but I'm disappointed that nothing has been announced for 2022. It is 60 years since the release of Love Me Do, it would have been nice to have a remastered package of The Decca Tapes, the first Parlophone session and of course remastered versions of Love Me Do, PS I Love You and How Do You Do It. Also the delta mixes of Please Please Me and Ask Me Why which were used for the single although released in 1963 was actually recorded in 1962. It is also 40 years since the Beatles Movie Medley (1982) which is still ignored by Apple.

I just read the copyright law for music broadcast and publishing. Copyright expires after 50’years unless the work can be published in the 50th year of the release then its extended by 20 years. This means that we will see Sometime in NYC within 12 months after it’s original June release date, while next year and 2023 will see two of his other albums. I don’t think Rock and Roll need be published as the songs are not John’s copyright.

Weren't The Beatles "bouncing down" some tracks by the time of Revolver? Anyway, one good example of audio improvement is towards the end of the version of "Here, There and Everywhere" (Take 14?) on the CD single of Real Love released in 1996. The harmonies are all over the stereo spectrum and the (too quiet) rhythm section is brought up. A good example of how they could tweak it. Also on the original album mix, you can hardly hear the rhythm guitar in "Got To Get You Into My Life", although you know it's there...
@aureliande26592 жыл бұрын
I also don't quite understand why Revolver would be impossible to handle. They did beautiful versions of Eleanor Righby (with the double tracked voice corrected and the octet nicely spread out) and Yellow Submarine (a virtual radio play the submarine voices and sounds are all over the place) for the YS Songtrack. They must have used digitized versions of the pre-bounce-down basic tracks for that. Of course, these remixes were not done by Giles Martin. His own tweaked versions of those two songs are not as good, I believe. Revolver is regarded as the Beatles finest album by many serious minds and trained musicians. It's a shame it shoud be neglected.

I have quite a few items on my wish list that I hope would get announced this year or in the near future. From Paul, it would be nice if he releases a box set (or at least completes the run) of the single-disc CDs that he's been slowly releasing through Capitol. I've been collecting the 2-or-3-CD deluxe editions of the Archive Collections and am planning on building a custom box set of it once the run is complete. From George, I'd love a CD equivalent of the maroon vinyl box set - ideally Japanese mini-LPs if only for stuff like the die-cut embossed Extra Texture packaging. Some thoughts... I always have thought that Walls and Bridges would make a good box set, however this once again may have issues with rights as other artists such Elton John appear on it. I'm hoping for a vinyl reissue of Memory Almost Full, as an original vinyl copy is extremely difficult to track down at a reasonable price. I also suspect that a Archive collection of Tripping the Live Fantastic may happen within the next few years seeing as it wasn't reissued with those other live albums a few years ago. Some more live album vinyl reissues would be nice seeing as we didn't get Unplugged, Tripping the Live or Back in the World/US. And more Ringo EPs are likely.

What I would like to see is a box set similar to Lennon's, with everything from Sentimental Journey to Change the World being represented. I would then like to see a full re-release of his catalogue in a similar way to deluxe sets from the others. Ringo may well be the first album to see such a treatment, but his late 70s work would be most welcome.

@@AndrewDixonMusic I didn't realise that Ringo wasn't keen on archiving his own work. Maybe in a few years... Saying that, his complete catalogue on Spotify would be a start! I'd also be interested, although it'd be a very niche product, a box set containing the 3 Unfinished Music albums. Might not be commercially viable, but once Double Fantasy/Milk and Honey get the box set treatment, it might be worth consideration.

Yes some of Ringo's albums haven't been easy to get on CD but I managed to get them all in the end. Some never even got released in the UK so a reissue would be good. As for John & Yoko's unfinished music albums, I think an ultimate mix of Two Minutes Silence is long overdue!

@@anthonycraig1458 Perhaps oddly, I think that the pairing of Baby's Heartbeat to Two Minutes Silence is quite affecting. I mean, Life with the Lions is a tough listen: Cambridge 1969 can be intolerable at times, but maybe that's the point. It does seem to have a verse/chorus structure, but that could just be me. Radio Play is another that can grate. No Bed for Beatle John's a nice little piece, though. Wedding Album's the best of the three, with the strangely sensual, oddly hypnotic John and Yoko, and the fascinating Amsterdam, while Two Virgins sounds like the Goon Show on acid. I prefer Side One to Side Two, but it's all much of a muchness, really.

Great thoughts Andy…. Would love to see a 5.1 mix of Ram….. re Beatles 5.1 mix of magical mystery tour LP and Yellow Submarine sound track album.

Let It Be / Get Back movie, on dvd with extras, would be very welcome, especially from those of us who were unable to watch the Disney Plus offering.

I agree with you about the rooftop concert making no sense...the only songs that are unreleased from that are the 2nd take of Don't Let Me Down and the first attempt of Get Back.

Hi Andrew! Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy watching them. Talking about upcoming releases this year, how about John's Live In NYC 50th anniversary?

If my kids bought me Sometime In New York City as a fathers day gift I would disown them 🤣

I'd love to see Bangladesh out but I think the George camp should prepare a George anthology release for Christmas or New Year 2023 in time for his 80th in Feb. Might generate interest in the lesser known harder sell albums to follow. I'd prefer Press To Play personally as the next McCartney archive. And yes 18 hours of Get Back Blu ray. Awesome. Would be good if you could playlist the rooftop with the next day studio takes to get a complete visual performance of the Get Back album.

The high in the clouds animated film release on Netflix has been announced for 2022. I don’t know the exact date. That will include new (unreleased) songs.

I'd like to have the Beatles Washington Coliseum concert on Blu-ray, and I'd also like to have an official release of live material from Wings last tour, maybe the one called Last Flight!

just seen that the Get Back blu-ray, and presumably DVD, are set for release on Feb 28, but apparently there is to be no extra material.

Given that none of the albums from Revolver and earlier are likely to be remixed because of current tech limitations, I think there is space for a remix of Magical Mystery Tour (though, TBH I wouldn't bother with the visuals), perhaps in a facsimile of the original EP format? Or - Some kind of remix of the Yellow Submarine tracks that were recorded just for the movie, perhaps in conjunction with MMT.
@AndrewDixonMusic2 жыл бұрын
I think those early albums likely will get remixed at some point but Magical Mystery Tour I definitely hope gets some Deluxe treatment. Would love to have a release of all sorts of music connected to that movie, and maybe they might put right the omission of Carnival Of Light from the Sgt Pepper box and include it with MMT instead.

I was going to ask about your early Wings '71 - '73 box set box. I'm never sure about ditching it to display the individual boxes. But your box seems to be empty. Good idea. Display it empty and have your separate boxes as well, although I did not see your separate boxes displayed.

Yes at the moment all my Archive boxes, including Red Rose Speedway, Wild Life and the Wings Over Europe book are all together at the other side of my room, and the 71-73 box is kept almost empty 🙂👍

Has no one said anything about the finished version of "Now And Then"? I'm still waiting for it. 2020 would have been the perfect year for that. It would have been a nice treat after the new 'Let It Be' had to be postponed. It also would have commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Anthology project (when "Now And Then" was first conceived as a Beatles song). If they do it this year, it could instead be a nice treat while waiting for more redone Beatles albums to start coming out in 2023 (for the 60th anniversary).
