What Minerals Do Goats Need? A Guide to Minerals and Supplements For Nigerian Dwarf Goats

We had some issues with our nutrition plan when we first started out with goats, and our goats suffered as a result. I’m convinced improving our minerals and supplements made the biggest difference in improving the health of our goats, even more so than the changes we made with our hay and feed. This video covers the free choice minerals we give and the supplements we use. Minerals can be tricky to administer. Supplements can be a pain. But our experience is that they are a necessity.

I see your videos are from 2 & 3 years ago…Can I ask why you no longer produce content? I clearly see your content is very informative and you would have grown a very successful channel showing your life of goat in every aspect. I seen pictures you have shown in prior videos and it looks like you have show goats so that being said do you breed and sell your goats because you have some beautiful goats and very healthy looking rather they are show goats or not they are top notch. So glad I found your channel. Can you provide links for all of you minerals and supplements. I have three Nigerian dwarf goats that have dull coats. Looking to get their feeding regimen on point. Links would help. Other than the prescription ones of course. Thanks for all the information.

The most important one is the free choice loose mineral. We get ours from our feed store. There are a several good manufacturers to choose from, but we use this one: www.sweetlix.com/products/60717-meat-maker-168-mineral/ The SweetLix is a little deficient in Vitamin E, so we supplement with this powder from AniMed. We usually send everything to WADDL (Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory). I believe Texas A&M also has a good mineral panel that includes selenium.
