For shooting videos (and general photos) I LOVE the Nikon 18-55mm zoom lens but not the one in your video. The new AF-P is much, much improved over the AF-S version. It focuses two or three times faster and is truly silent.

I bought a Nikon D5200 because it was recommended for self-tapes as an actor. I've never really used it because it seems so hard to quickly stabilize the focus while self-taping. I am not that much of a camera person. I am hoping I didn't just waste my money as it's been a year or more since I've purchased this camera. What would be the best lens for that? The camera stationary (on a tripod) but I am moving and walking in, out, and around the frame and the lens needs to keep up with the focus. It may be what settings I have it on also as I know NOTHING about cameras. Any recommendations or suggestions?

Hey question for you! I recently picked up a Nikon d5600. My main purpose would be shooting portraits (headshots, BTS/candid at events/food) and video ( BTS at events, vlogging/ travel videos, food). Should I stick with this camera or upgrade to a better model? Or work with D5600 I have and update the kit lens? If so, which do you recommend as I feel like i fell into a few of these categories. This would all be mostly hand held use. As for budget I’m open if I can find something that could be good for all that I’m hoping to achieve. I still have a week or so left to try out and return the Camera for something else so just trying to get some insight. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I like documenting various events so I use a variety of lenses to cover most ranges. I use the 35mm 1.8, Tokina 11-16 2.8 and 70-300 Af-p lens for my D5500. I also have a Moza Air gimbal stabilizer that I'm still learning to use.

Great vid. I love my 35mm 1.8 but the lack of VR when shooting video hand held makes for shaky footage, so for run and gun I use my 18-55mm. The 18-55 is great For video as long as lighting isn't an issue. For indoor scenes/lowlight I use my 35mm. I would love a 35mm with VR.

@@atroche1978 I just put a little money on a stabilizer (the Chinese version of the Wildcat I) I think it's totally worth it for the 35mm but also for kit lenses as the VR will never look as professional as a stabilizer or a gimble.

Very nice video for making a right decision. 35mm is very nice lens in its price range and field of view becomes almost 50mm on d5300. 50mm 1.8g is too tight for making videos on crop sensor and more preferably used as portrait lens. I have seen many videos of 35mm on crop sensor with handheld shooting and some of them showed great results.

For me the best lens to use is the AF-P and NOT an AF-S lens avoiding focus noise. For interviews the 35mm or 50mm.

Well, so many people ask this question because the lenses are SOOO freakin' expensive. People don't want to hear, "Oh, you wasted your money on the wrong lens. You should have bought ___." We want to learn from other people's mistakes.

50mm is way too much in my experience(filming people) 18...24 is perfect. 35mm also is way too much. 18..24mm f1.8-3.5. good to go.
