An Em pentatonic scale is a G major scale. The E is the relative minor to G just as A is to C etc, count down 4 notes to the minor from the root. But Major scale requires changing scale shape when changing chords. Play like Dickey Betts and you will get it. Good luck

Math guy here, I know this will maybe go over most people's heads but it's really fascinating and I encourage you to read into it. There is a very good reason why the blue note is the one it is, it's more than just deliberately out of tune, it's about as "out of tune" as it's possible for a note to be. The blue note is the tritone in a minor context and the tritone has a unique property. You see the basic reason why two notes harmonise and sound nice together is because their frequencies are related by a simple ratio. For example a perfect fifth is actually a ratio of 3:2, i.e. in a perfect world (12 tone equal temperament is not generally perfect) the frequency of G2 is exactly 3/2 or 1.5x the frequency of C2. Note that an octave is precisely double the frequency, so C3 = 2 x C2... a nice ratio between notes leads to a nice resonance, the sound waves interfere in a quickly repeating signal and it sounds good to us. A perfect fourth is 4/3. So nice simple ratios give is nice harmonizing chords. Now what about the tritone? Well, that's different. You see 12-TET is a practical approximation of reality that allows us to transpose melodies but assuring that each two successive notes are the same ratio apart (e.g. C to C#, or Gb to G). This is not really true in the world of "just intervals" which is kind of the basis for music. It turns out that the tritone is a completely "fake" note, it doesn't align with any nice ratio. In fact, it happens to be equal to the square root of 2, a well known irrational number. This is for good reason, the tritone is "half way" to an octave, that is, 2 successive tritones (flat 5ths) will be an octave. But remember frequencies don't add, they multiply, so it's not half of 2, its the square root. Anyway, that's why the tritone sounds so particularly disharmonious, it's literally as out of tune as a note can be, in a strict mathematical sense, and that in itself seems to make the note interesting to us. Funnily enough, it might never have existed in pop culture if not for 12-TET, which just happens to us an even number of notes per octave (there are other choices, even 17) and this means it splits the octave perfectly in half, and so the tritone lands PERFECTLY (none of the other notes are perfect) on root 2.

You definitely don't talk too much. I mean I already know everything you said on this video yet I enjoyed hearing you explain it. You have a comforting tone which encourages and supports beginners. Keep it up, man. What you're doing is a great job.

Level 6 is what’s referred to as “playing the changes” Josh Smith adds more to it and calls it “playing through the changes”

Hello, and Good Day, Paul! Just want to weigh in, and say.. Don’t change ANYTHING about your presentations! I appreciate your LOVE of the instrument, and your willingness to share it with guitarists from all walks, and from all levels - from beginner and on! Keep Up the Great Work!

You know I consider myself a fairly good player and still always learning. Stop mocking and if you already know this stuff move on. This guy is teaching you stuff listen and learn or don’t. It’s free so knock it off

Screw everyone that says you talk to much. Part of the channel and part of the charm of the content.

switching back and forth between major and minor scales is how most good blues players do the "call and response"....

Man people really do be out here telling this man to stop talking when I’m out here wishing the videos would be an hour long. Soak up all the knowledge you can from this guy. Seriously. This is someone who’s devoted a better part of their livelihood to music, and instead of taking his talents elsewhere, he’s decided to share his knowledge with the rest of us so that we can learn too.
