Great lesson! It is quite difficult to find lessons aimed at intermediate players. It's usually baby's first bar chords or advanced bebop jazz and nothing in between. I've learned a lot from your videos, thanks!

Glad you’re here, you’re in the right place. I make all my videos specifically for the intermediate players.

Fantastic. Especially for those of us chasing Jerry tone. Sugaree is probably B Mixolydian, though people argue it's in E, but it has a lot of chords. Maybe that's why people hear it differently. Very helpful video. Thanks.

I'd raise a bit your compression threshold (meaning here it's very very compressed and attacks are very loud)

Absolutely. It makes the modes make way, way more sense to understand the progressions that support modes. Good examples: “Seagull” verse, by Paul Rodgers, D Mixolydian “On Your Way Down”, the Little Feat version uses Bb Dorian for much of the tune, turnaround goes to Bb minor vocabulary “Oye Como Va” by Santana is A Dorian “Norwegian Wood” by The Beatles, A section is E Mixolydian.

Great lesson. Just had to wrap my head around the way you recognize e. g. B Dorian : I learnt B Dorian as A major scale, starting from B. Your way reinforces my knowledge of intervals B Dorian = flat 7 and perfect 4th.My neural pathway is always from known ( A major scale) to the vast ocean of intervals( unknown). From the known A major scale I had an epiphany : this scale has a perfect 4th D and root A which are which creates a B Dorian modal sound. So A as root becomes flat 7 as B major and D # becomes D flat. I love the way you demonstrated the modal sounds. Profoundly grateful for all you do for the aspiring, sometimes overzealous, intermediates. A donation is imminent. Warm regards, Sunny South Africa.

I think yesterday I discovered it by arpeggiating triads, then I tried to pick each note in the same string, after playing 2 notes I had wen vertical, using triad extensions I got myself a scale, at first it sounded like major scale then I realised the key I am in is still the same, then it hit me I was actually playing the modes from triad shapes

Fabien, I must have missed when you said what all of the modal tones were. Do you mind explaining them further?

I am going to make another video soon on this, I also have another video on modes where I go through all the unique intervals. It’s linked at the very end of this video
