thank you so much for both of your videos, im getting acrylics for the first time and was wondering how to talk to my nail tech to get what i would like and be able to communicate properly by using like the right terminology or whatever but this stuff was way more helpful especially around speaking up about hygiene. Thanks for the tip.

Polished By Amy ok so i need advice and i know this is SO late BUT, i really want to get acrylics, but where i live they all speak Chinese/Vietnamese/Mandarin, and so i never know if they are talking trash about my nails🥺. one of my many insecurities is my nails and i never know what to do bc i bite my nails, it’s just a bad habit, and my cuticles are the greatest. so i’m just wondering how to get past that and how to just move on from the trash talk, please respond and someone give me advice!!

Hello my name is Lily and first I love your videos. I was wondering if you can help me on reading material. My mom recently bought the salon she went to because the owner was going to shut it down. She liked the idea, want to keep the people from losing their source of income and she figured I had experience running a salon. I do have training for running salon but not a nail salon. I used to work for Lush as a trainer, sales lead, and was trained for opening up one of their salon and spa. Lush is skin care and the only nail care is a few products. I have been reading the states health code books, watch KZbin videos, reading nail magazines (orders Nails and NailPro for physical subscriptions), the nail techs are teaching me and I will be going to nail tech school. I don't really plan on doing nails but it is like a manager of a restaurant should know how to cook. I was wondering if there was anything of literature you can think of for me to read to learn more. I was also wondering what type container you use for Travel Kit. I have a couple on site events plan I was wondering what to get. Thank you.

Hey I have like naturally long nails and I bite a few for like my pinky and pointer are shorter. But I really don’t want them to all get cut short. Short nails make me feel uncomfortable and hurt. I’m kinda scared to tell them that I don’t want them cut but then I feel like it would look weird. I hate when they cut them though. I’m getting them done tomorrow and it’s really worrying about it.

Don't be afraid to tell them exactly what you want! You are paying for them to service you! I personally prefer for my clients to tell me what they like or don't like before we get started :)

Can you talk about the cheese grater. And how it's horrible for the feet. I'd like to know why and what to request in exchange of the cheese grater

I just had ANC French manicure done and the surface turned out gritty and dull. I went back, had them buffed and top coat done...same result. What would cause this?
@polishedbyamy
@polishedbyamy 4 жыл бұрын
That is typical with any "dip" method. Since you're gluing powder to the nail, you won't have the smooth finish like gel or regular polish would give you. I would say some extra buffing and a gel top coat would be your best bet for a smoother surface

I have to disagree with letting the client bring in their own tools. You as the tech have no idea where they have been or if they have actually been cleaned. The client could be bringing in all sorts of diseases and bacteria. Even if the client "cleaned" them they certainly won't be sanitised to industry standards. Why would you even risk your other clients health by potentially infecting them???????
@polishedbyamy
@polishedbyamy 5 жыл бұрын
kellyanne darcy The nail tech can definitely sanitize them the same way they sanitize the re-usable implements in the salon. Also, if the client wants to bring in clippers or a file that they already use on themselves, there would be no infection risk since it’s only being used on them :)
@polishedbyamy
@polishedbyamy 5 жыл бұрын
Also, I’m not sure if it was clear that a single client is allowed to bring in tools to be used ONLY on them. They would then take them home afterwards. Those tools wouldn’t be used on any other clients
@kellyannedarcy3140
@kellyannedarcy3140 5 жыл бұрын
Obviously it would only be used on them, but you still don't know what bacteria has been growing on their tools. You can still infect them with their own tools and I can bet the client will blame you. As for sanitising their tools what's the point when you can just use your tools that you know are clean and upto standards. Each to their own I guess but I wouldn't be putting my business at risk, client doesn't like that then they are welcome to go to someone else.
@polishedbyamy
@polishedbyamy 5 жыл бұрын
As I said earlier, its not necessary. Just that it's an option for a client that wants the peace of mind of knowing where the tools have been :)

Thank you for the vid. I was wondering if it's possible to ask the nail tech to use new files or buffers, but I thought it be rude to. Now I know better!! Appreciate it. Also, how much is it costume to tip a lady that worked on my nails, for gel for instance?
@polishedbyamy
@polishedbyamy 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, never be afraid to speak out! Also, I know many people tip a percentage of their service total. 20% is common, but it depends on the quality of your service and your comfort level :)

@@polishedbyamy gotta thank you again. I did my nails at a new salon a few days ago, and the tech was about to use old and used buffers and files. I asked her if she can use new one's and she pulled the new ones gotta be honest right out like it was nothing. I was very grateful that I saw your video at that moment!! The nails turned out great. Thanks again. I appreciate it 🙏🏻 and thanks for the advice about the tip too 🥰🙏🏻

If you came to Scotland you’d die of shock soon as you entered a salon let alone when you find out you can’t have nail art let alone an apex or even a level surface- I now do my own.

I have had manicures over the years but never a pedicure...would like to try/get one. I am pre-diabetic & concerned about the cutting the nails/cuticles part. Can I tell the nail tech not to cut my nails/cuticles if I cut my own nails beforehand, per my Podiatrist's instructions? I wouldn't mind the pushing the cuticles back but not cutting of any kind. Thanks!
