I’ve been in Nashville 12 years too and it’s been a nightmare. I’ve been told ‘Nashville is the place folks come to die.’ The biggest eye opener is that nobody and I mean nobody rehearses down here. There’s hundreds of professional rehearsal halls down here but I haven’t found a single soul that’s willing to go in on one. You’re supposed to learn the Nashville 100’ and play them in any key on the fly by using the number system. Also all the open mics are Tuesday - Thursday starting at 9pm. Kind of hard to do if you have to get up at 5am to work. Also most available bands I have found live an hour or more outside of Davidson county.

Fantastic video. Just celebrated my ten years in Nashville moving from LA. Getting back into guitar and gonna make KZbin videos from my home office (with an RGB light and brick back drop. Your channel is perfect.

Young college graduate from kinda the middle of nowhere trying to figure out if city living is worth it. I will say I’d never felt so at home while on vacation when I was there, everyone was driven just like me. Barely anyone ever moves away in my state so moving feels like a big step if I decide to but I feel stuck in the same circles. Ive made some great leeway in my local scene and I fear starting over but I think the diversity and enthusiasm there would be a welcome change. I only just found out my state is currently ranked the worst for 20 somethings to live in to rent lol it doesn’t look like it but it’s overcrowded here and jobs in general (not just music) don’t pay well unless you’re in certain fields (which I am not in). I just loved the beauty and spirit of Nashville, it’s similar to Austin in regards to great job growth but prettier bars in Nashville. My side incomes teaching private lessons and my day job in psychology have been incredibly helpful in investing more into my merch production. Going to continue my research on Nashville, I didn’t know about its external areas, thank you so much for this video!!! :)

Oh thanks for the comment and I totally get that. It’s definitely a big jump! I would recommend starting somewhere close to the city but that still feels safe and is pretty- I love the Donelson/hermitage area and a lot of people are starting to move there. Good luck and message me on IG if you ever have questions!!

North Alabama is about a 90 minute drive from Nashville. I wonder just how close to Nashville one has to be.

Most importantly, don't go to Nashville ore any other city unless you have a developed talent. Have you differentiated yourself from the pack? Are you bringing something different to the stage, the the session, to the industry? You must be fully aware that hundreds of musicians are moving there daily and many of them are extremely good at what they do. Minimize luck and maximize skills. You will likely be sharing and apartment or house with roommates so don't take much with you. Even the best musicians in town have roommates. Nashville is a small town. If you show up with talent the other musicians will quickly take note.

Oh these are definitely some solid points! One thing i have noticed though is being around other talented people really does help you hone your skills! Appreciate the good thoughts!

Is Nashville a nice town? Generally speaking? How does it compare to California?

It is! Maybe I should maybe a videos on what nashville is like in general! It’s REALLY different from where I’m from (central coast) and took me a bit to find the best areas of town! I don’t really go downtown ever and love the more artsy areas/nature-y places the city has!

Step one... do not move to Nashville if you're trying to pursue music, pursue it by touring, if you get called to nashville, visit their for the work you've been called in to do, then go back to your normal touring life, and your home town.

I have known a lot of people that do that! Sometimes it can be a little harder to make those initial connections without being there for some period of time! Definitely a good strategy for once you are a little more established!!

@@haleypowersmusic I'm being a bit forward here, but you're an attractive girl, the world is different for you, obviously it takes more than that to get gigs and sessions, but that helps quite a lot. That could be the extra 10% that gets you through doors that most others can't.

Wouldn’t even consider it as it’s been loved to death. Too many people, too crowded & expensive! My last visit is my last visit!
