Hey Scott, I just wanted to say I really appreciate your videos. I am a US Marine deployed overseas and we were scheduled to be back home in NC in a few days but with all of this craziness going on we are not able to come back. I stumbled upon your channel a few weeks ago and have been watching ever since. They give me something to look forward when I get home, so keep up the videos and stay safe out there!

Damn...that is a HUGE compliment. I'm glad your enjoying the videos. We're all trying to deal with this thing the best we can. You stay safe and I'll do my best to keep making videos!!!

Love the videos and advice. Can you do a video on how to use your frameless pack carrying 5 days food and 20 mile waterless section?
@TheUltralightMindset4 жыл бұрын
Wow.....that's an interesting question with lots of variables that could come into play. Is it summer and hot as hell? Is there significant elevation? What's your ability to hike 20 miles in a day? Is the trail shaded or open desert? Just to "try" and answer your question, I'm going to assume that it's hot and those variables justify at least 4 liters of water. My base weight would most likely be around 8 lbs. 5 days food roughly 8 lbs. 4 liters of Water is 8.8 lbs. That's 24.8 lbs total to start. I will need to wear at least a webbing belt, but most likely a more substantial hipbelt. If the pack is loaded properly some of the weight will be distributed to the hips. I would shoot for a 20 mile day. Very early start, chug water night prior and first thing before heading out , hike with a consistent pace, and short breaks. Obviously the first half of the day would be the heaviest with full water weight and less need to drink until the temps rise. That's the best I can do without more info...😉

That is awesome that you live near a nature preserve. If I ever move again...I will be looking for something near the woods. My only suggestion was the quilt idea. I am about to upgrade my quilt. But, there are so many choices out there, I am not sure what to get: UGQ, EE, Hammock Gear. I have actually looked at Cedar Ridge Outdoors and like the price and weight ratio...If you do a quilt/sleeping bag review, I would like to hear your thoughts on various companies on choices. Stay safe, Crow.

Hey man. Hope you are doing well with all this craziness. I think if you have the money and are willing to make the investment, you can't beat Katabatic Gear or Nunatak. Top quality build, comfort temp rating, high quality materials, differential cut, been around for a long time. But it's hard to recommend one quilt without more info. Temps you plan to use it in? Are you a cold/hot sleeper? Are you a side/ back sleeper? Do you like or hate tighter fit? Do you get cold feet? Do you use a tarp, tent, or hammock? Where do you hike? Dry or wet climate? Yada, yada, yada...😂 I have quilts from several different companies since there are four hikers in my house. Personally, my go to are: Vesper 32 for summer, Katabatic Alsek 22 for temps 15 to 40 F. And a Zero Degree BAgnes Orno UL mummy bag for colder temps. I need to make a video of those three systems. Hope that helps a little bit. If not we may need to do this by phone....😁

Very helpful. Yeah, I hope you will do a video of those bags you have. I’m a super cold sleeper. So, I will look at those bags. I am looking for a 10 or 0 degree bag. Those you recommended I will look at. Appreciate it.

Motivated By Mountains Interesting, I was just on the phone with them and they recommended the same thing. I was thinking of having them add a non-insulated “hood.”
@TheUltralightMindset4 жыл бұрын
@@barondavis5692 Non-insulated hood...😏. Interesting. I had basicly the same idea. Not to enclose my head but to hold my pillow in place. Did they give you a price and an idea of the additional weight?
