Khandro Rinpoche asks "what impedes happiness?" especially as it relates to Buddhist practitioners. #Buddhism #Khandro She reviews key issues in a Buddhism 101 or Buddhism for Beginners manner and Rinpoche brings her usual clarity.

Here is a link to a talk that Khandro Rinpoche gave called "Practicing in Times of Adversity". It is audio only. www.khandrorinpoche.org/practicing-in-times-of-adversity/ As Rinpoche says: "It is a time of unspeakable fear and disruption for most of the world. During such times of crisis and struggle which arise in our lives, our practice could be one of the first things we turn to."

Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche is a great blessing to us Western practitioners. Her erudite, focussed teachings on the essence of the Dharma, with bright flashes of humour, are wonderful. I have just attended two nights of teachings in London UK. I urge all of you, if you have the chance, to experience her presence. Otherwise, there's plenty available here on KZbin. Thank you, Rinpoche for your tireless energy and kindness.

Some notes and transcription for the video to share with those who may need it: Rinpoche la advised us to learn to be kind which is so much simpler than building stuff and that we should always question anger and its various forms, such as sadness and fear... Rinpoche la requested us to constantly ask ourselves this simple question: "In the decisions that you made in life, what is predominant? Is it the reality of things as they are -- the View more pre-dominant in the decisions you make? Or your decisions are still dominated by the supposition (i.e. assumption) that there is a 'me' that has to be cared for and sustained?" She gave a useful example: True Buddhist practitioner considers form to be important, for example, let's say the shrine, is a very important aspect in the Buddhist tradition of meditation, but is it the first and most important thing? It is not. ... All are just methods to remind us. So that by looking at it, we are able to evoke the awareness of our own natural capacity to develop awakenedness. And awakenedness is not a fantastic supernatural kind of mystical thing. It is the same common sense that we would have like going down the stairs... Simple fact is, there is the inner natural potential to discern, but how often do we use it? When we are not using them, then we are dependent on all the "post-sticks" (i.e. the methods, the teachers, the teachings, the reading, the meditation sitting, the shrine, etc.) to remind us. When the familiarisation with that basic fundamental wisdom that can be aware and discern between what are the causes that can lead to harm to your own self and eliminating them, and then, looking at all the causes and conditions that are constructive, positive and good for you, being able to encourage yourself to maintain a continuum of those causes and conditions, that is the part of practice. That is how much it is related to the part of practice. When that is not done, then often one forgets the first motivating inspiration one has cultivated, one just learned about information -- knowledge of Dharma / meditation in Buddhism. On one hand without knowledge, one cannot really refine the primordial nature or primordial wisdom. The wisdom needs to be made pure and ever present, and be able to really retain its authentic nature through the assistance and support of knowledge. But on the other hand, if we relate to knowledge and not to really strengthen the wisdom but acquire information, then the devotion to the shrine or the form may come about, but a certain naïve approach to actual part doesn't happen. So you can label yourself to be a warrior, but not having the actual qualities of a warrior. Then, you can be able to say that you are a Mahayanist, practising to cultivate Bodhicitta and engaging in a life of a Bodhisattva, but at the same time, it may simply just an intellectual idea that you have and the actual actualisation of the practice doesn't happen. Do not fall into such deception of the ego... but to really bringing together the View and Action, such that the meditation is used so honestly and that it thoroughly and purely bridges the gap between the View and the Action... *** Important part: Do we fall under this? Mundane strong arrogance, as a common man having arrogance, anger, desire, selfishness, there will be a room full of people saying, "No, you shouldn't. Go get help. Sit in meditation. Go and study Buddhism." Now, a Buddhist who is arrogant -- arrogantly meditating, selfishly sitting, full of desire devoted, then even for a Teacher, it becomes very difficult because that person has enough knowledge to say things like, "It is your projection." That is how we shut most people up... *** Important part: Do we fall under this? When you do not know the true essence of the practice, but go into the appearance of the religion or philosophy, rather than working with your own mind. This is shutting your senses and wisdom down. And Rinpoche la called them "the naïve practitioners". Very sweet and innocent. Those who go into the garden, see a beautiful flower or a sparrow, write 4 lines, do a few recitations, read a little bit, a tonglen here and there, take a photo, post it on facebook, share it with the others. It is nice and very sweet. Even the very harden people, often in the presence of such, find happiness and hope in basic goodness and patience. But from the perspective of what the Bodhisattva Path is trying to teach, the naiveness no matter how cute, how sweet, how pictorial, still is where your potential could stagnant in that innocence, so the person becomes very starry eye about everything. When you begin to see Buddhas and Bodhisattvas everywhere, when you begin to have sense of goodness, but continuously, there is the ego, and ultimately, the ego does again raise its head to try and find its nourishment on that naiveness, and upon that very sweet and good-heartedness it sustains itself. How it sustain itself is, there is not much progressiveness. One of the characteristics that I find in the student in such a situation is, almost a laziness comes in, where you do not want to do anything much more. Learning becomes difficult. Doing new things become difficult. Analysing, critical examination and the challenges of questioning everything become dim by that naiveness. You begin to say, "Oh! I think I will dwell in this kind of a state of goodness." And the goodness can then become a kind of cosiness which you build around yourself. Sustaining that temporarily gives you a temporary benefit, but it is so out of touch with the reality of what ego is and what it is continuously creating. Wherever there is a slight residue of ego and ignorance consistently being there, the negativeness and all the afflictions may be dormant for a certain time but not destroyed, not subjugated completely. So when an explosion comes, in the form of utter despair, tremendous hurt, ... and often, a lot of time goes by where you have allowed yourself to sustain that sense of comfortableness. Where that comfortableness is maintained and impermanence constantly arises, physically you aged and mentally a lot of non-refinement happens. Because of which, then at certain point, when the body begins to have difficulties, you do not know how to handle that. And you find that the responses that you have for others is not the responses you are getting back from others. Mentally you are also unable to clearly see why is there so much negativities happening. When such doubt and hesitation arises, you find yourself so stuck in the whirlpool of your own emotions. It is very difficult to find strength and clarity. And where strength and clarity is very difficult, then the discouragement often comes and this is how a lot of people seem to then fade out from practice and meditation. *** Important part: Do we fall under this? The most unfortunate group of people is where the structure and form of their practices are seen to be so important in their lives that they begin to have a sense of almost strong fixation and strong attachment to the form of their practices, without allowing genuine transcendence, genuine transformation of the mind to happen. So watching out in one's own mind. Because ultimately, we always say it is a very fortunate circumstances that we have the opportunity to be a human being, and have the basic awareness that we can generate and strengthen to make more strong and ever present, but all of those potential could be defeated, could be completely subdued by these tendencies, despite the fact that you have met with the Dharma, that you do meditate, that you do understand what awaken mind (Bodhicitta) is. ... Need to differentiate between what is emotionally feeling love and kindness and what is true bodhicitta, what is true generation of awaken mind.

lol the Bay Bridge Motivation For Building It? If you dissect it,I think the Labour would have seen it as self benefit,in the form of paychecks, the Business Backers and Government agencies too,but kindness involves considering someone else interest first often without gain to self,so it kind of runs contri to what our minds have been conditioned to believe! im no expect but this seems to scan!
