C-3P0, R2-D2, Michael Jordan's jersey, Archie Bunker's chair, Dorothy's ruby Slippers. They are all in a new exhibit on American Culture in the American History Museum. Plus I walk through a bit of the President's collection to see the Wall of Presidents in the Smithsonian, which is a bit different than the one in the White House Visitor's Center.
Show not Tell.

Quite enjoyed seeing the forms of transportation that built North America. Sharp contrast to the direction we’re heading in with the focus on their “green new deal” and electric cars, that is dividing us. 🙄
@trapdoorspringfieldmodel1888
@trapdoorspringfieldmodel1888 Жыл бұрын
And yet you somehow missed that all these "forms of transportation that built North America" all involved advances in technology, and divided people as well. The earliest forms involved canals and rivers to mass transport goods and people, and animals for overland transport. Then railroads came along and people fought those thinking they wouldn't work. They did and over time they replaced animals for overland transport of good and people, and canals such as the Erie Canal declined. Then this held until around 1900 give or take a few years. The airplane made its debut in 1903, and cars were being developed. The railroads fought the airplane and livery stables and horse farms fought the development of the car, and they both lost. By the 1950's the railroads moved off of steam engines to diesel-electric and that change was opposed to by the firemen. They lost and the vast majority of them were laid off because they were no longer needed. Now the electric car is coming for the gasoline engine. So the story of American transportation is one that embraces new technology, and one of people who oppose such advancements. You are clearly in the latter camp, and I am in the former.

Don’t believe I asked for a short story on what your beliefs are. Accurate as to how we got where we are at but we clearly have different opinions on path to “net zero”. Biden and Trudeau are so far up the UN’s ass that they are neglecting the oil and gas industry and their clean energy options, in favour of wind, solar and battery power. It’s kicking the hell out of the economy and real lives are being affected daily.
@trapdoorspringfieldmodel1888
@trapdoorspringfieldmodel1888 Жыл бұрын
@@dustinrupert3679 It isn't about "beliefs," but about how transportation technology advances despite opposition. The oil and gas industry have been given billions and billions in subsides over the decades, and so I don't think they have experienced neglect. If they weren't wise in investing those subsidies into cleaner and better energy sources that is their fault, and it wasn't as if they didn't have any warning. Their own scientists and research showed decades ago that climate change was happening, and so they had decades to prepare and didn't. Wind and solar are things that can be produced here, and battery technology continues to improve drastically thanks to significant economic incentive. The advantage of both the sun and wind is that they aren't influenced by whims of idiots. For example, Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues to impact the oil and gas market, and all it takes is Iran to shut down the Straits of Hormuz to hurt the global oil and gas economy. As China's energy consumption grows the price of oil and gas only goes up. Those are factors that really kick "the hell out of the economy," and the sooner this nation weans itself off of oil the stronger it becomes and the less real lives will be negatively affected by the oil and gas markets.
