How does one judge if the premium in the short strikes is "rich" ? Is there some general rule of thumb? For example, "The premium in the short strike should be at least 50% of the cost of the long strike" ?? Obviously this would allow you to put it on for free. Am I on the right track? We need the short strikes at resistance as well, so that precludes moving the shorts to get the premium "rich" correct? So "rich" is essentially a function of volatility, and to a lesser degree, theta. So if vol is low, we can use that to quickly rule out even trying this type of trade without checking all these steps, right? Thanks, nice vid.

Excellent question. Start with IV which if it is at least 35, then you might have something. IV's up over 50 and greater are even better. Rich is simply when you can clearly see that MM's are pricing things quite far away in dollars rather than a few pennies. It is also what it is in relation to the long strike. If you simply cannot put the spread on wide enough that you won't get run over for close to zero cost, then it's simply not going to work.

TOS allows you to short calls in greater number than the long strikes you own? I can't. How do you get around this without buying the underlying?
