Intelligent response to the organic vs chemical pesticide question! Balance: choose organic approach first (with sometimes slow or short-term response) or choose a chemical to address problem before significant damage occurs to a valuable tree. Or . . . use organics as a prophylactic to discourage a problem before it happens.

That is a great suggestion. We rarely thought about prevention when comes to insects...aside from keeping the plants clean.

Thanks for your answers, Milton. I usually repot when the soil starts to go up over the edge of the pot, but now I've started to use the screen net like you, so I guess this won't happen so early.

I really appreciate all I've learned from you. I love that you are not a snob about your craft as some often become. I think you are right about watering being a key to success. Thank you very much for the video! A nice spray you can make to deal with pests is a mix of water, vinegar and dish washing liquid! I won't use harsh chemicals on my plants/trees if I can avoid it!

Thank goodness i just found your channel. You present your information in a a very clear & concise manner. My question to you is can i keep my tropical fruit trees in large pots like 100 to 200 gal pots by utilizing some aspects of Bonsai?

I don’t mind being tough and doing the thing that works. But I ALWAYS do it in a way to never spray the flowers (even of weeds). My little suburban yard has toads, plenty of bees, praying mantis and fire flies. It’s a matter of being paying attention. And yes, I have weeds that I hate seeing, but they are mostly in the underbrush that only I take notice to

I really don't know much about Bonsai, but what's your opinion of using Airpruning pots or Fabric pots to air prune the roots. My objective is to maintain short tropical fruit trees in pots. Here in Barbados, we don't have the option of grafting onto dwarfing root stocks as in the USA. So if we're growing in pots we have to employ methods of both above & below ground pruning or manually bending branches to maintain "short" trees

I took a few common yew cuttings about a month ago they seem to be working as they're not drying out yet I guess that's a good thing. Also have air layers on ground planted river birch and weeping japanese maple. Against my better judgment I tried an air layer on a mugo pine, any idea if it will work?
@MiltonChang-ee6rq4 ай бұрын
Never done it but acording to what I read, Mugo pine cutings works although not a high success rate...which implies to me it is possible by air layering. Please share your .experience...to increase the knowledge of ths community. Make sure the rooting matrial does not dry out.
@andrewdobosz36824 ай бұрын
That's pretty much the terms of rooting a mugo I've heard as well. It's a rather large tree so really not losing anything if it doesn't work. The only way sometimes is to try it and see. I will certainly update in the future. Thanks again for everything Mr .Chang
@bonsaiheirloom4 ай бұрын
I read mugo pines can be propagated by cuttings…just low yield for beginners. Have fun and tell us how it worked out for you. Overtime our community will have good cultural info. Thanking you in advance. :)

I am trying to grow my first bonsai indoor. It is a cercis siliquastrum from seed. It is around 10 cm long and has 3 leaves. How big should the pot for it be? Appreciate your videos a lot!!!! Greetings
@MiltonChang-ee6rq4 ай бұрын
Any size pot...bigger posts are easier to keep the soil moist. Keep it in door only in the spring when it is colorful...it is not an indoor tree.

@@MiltonChang-ee6rq thanks for the reply, appreciate it. I am living in austria so should i leave it the day and night outside in the summer? Cause its still pretty little
@jerrybullins4 ай бұрын
I have had no success from any cuttings. I use your soil as advised, trim the bottom. And use new rooting powder i have a meter to check the moisture. Also the cut is close to the nodes and i cut the leaves off. Any advise will be so helpful it looks so easy but i do not know whats wrong.
@Florian-rk9fo4 ай бұрын
Du kanst ein cutting bord nehmen zb von ghe ... Rooting Dünger und rooting Hormone clonex.... Und nicht die kompletten Blätter weg... Etwas licht schadet auch nicht... Blaues Spektrum nur ca 50w.
@bonsaiheirloom4 ай бұрын
You did everything right…maybe missed something... Keeping the branch moist is the key. Allow bright but no direct sunlight. Use ½ perlite and ½ vermiculite and bury the cutting deep with some node above soil level. Start with easy semi-hardened cuttings any time during the active growing season…elm, maple…pomegranate….The trick is to not let the cutting dry out. Good luck and have fun!
