After enjoying your videos I've recently bought an old Avon Rover 2.8m, which needed a bit of work and am now looking for a small outboard. I live just a 10 minute walk from the River Weaver so found this video particularly interesting. Thank you.
@dp472803 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear - I would suggest for the Weaver either a 2.5hp 4 stroke or 4 hp 2 stroke. It is easily manageable and you cant fly about on the weaver too much really. Go for it!!!

@@dp47280 I ended up buying an old Suzuki DT3.5. Nice motor, just a few issues to sort out, which I'm confident I shall, but realise I should have done a bit more research as parts are mostly obsolete. I like a challenge! 😀

Nice one mate, I'm currently building a boat, just a ten foot rower tricked out with a new parsun four horse four stroke, iv not even fired it up yet, I know it's not going to be a speed machine but I'm just after something that gets me reliably up n down the river fishing the spots other angler's can't get to. Looks a lovely stretch there and I'm fairly local on the Wirral..just looking for alternatives to the dee. Great vid, it would probably fly if you put the engine names in the title..I never even knew it was a boat vid haha cheers

Thanks dude. The Parsuns are good motors from what I’ve heard. Never used one though. It’s not always about speed on the water, as you say- you can get to the spots others can’t. Yesterday I was on the Wirral- the Mersey. That’s the video for next week. I was stunned how the tide flows there. Going to be venturing on the Dee soon as well. Have a good one.

Hi, have enjoyed your boating videos. I'm thinking of getting a small boat for a family of 4 to pootle about on inland waterways. Would you recommend an inflatable or a maybe a rigid dinghy or something else?
@specialhorse80624 жыл бұрын
Regarding cavitation, perhaps a prop with higher pitch may solve. Put a tach on the motor and measure rpm at full throttle. If it's closer to the 6000 rpm limit then the motor needs more resistance. You can also keep adding weight to the boat until the full throttle rpm is closer to 5000 rpm. If that amount of weight isn't normal then you may want the higher pitch prop. Your type of use will determine. High speed, then perhaps the high pitch, trolling then low pitch. If both, then keep standard prop and put rocks in your boat. (That's a joke)

Thanks for the help - I have a tacho so next time i'm out ill check and see what to do. I wondered about a higher pitch prop as well. I take it outboard fins wont do much?
@specialhorse80624 жыл бұрын
@@dp47280 Fins can help mitigate ventilation or the drawing down of air from the surface. A solution to cavitation probably lies elsewhere. The tach should provide insight. The rule of thumb is that a 2" change in pitch produces a 300-400 change in max rpm.

There is something nice about the Suzuki. Very easy to transport. It’s going to get a lot of use I think in the lakes!!
@fork99995 жыл бұрын
The cavitation is usually one of two things. Either the propeller is to high in the water, you’ll need to lower the outboard by adjust the transom bracket. Or The angle of the outboard in relation to the transom is wrong, there should be angular adjustments on the outboard lift up mechanism. I’d stick with the little Suzuki and potter around. Enjoy.
@dp472805 жыл бұрын
fork9999 thanks for that.... I will check if there is height adjustment on the outboard. The trim I have tried all different angles and this seems the best. I’ve also tried different weight distribution but it still happens to some degree. I think your correct with the height because cornering and lumpy sea seem to make it happen more. Only at 3/4 throttle plus though. Thanks

Yeah..... Ventilation is not cavitation. If the prop is too near the surface it might ventilate.

I'm sorry but comparing three motors of 3 different horsepower ???? What actually is it that you are demonstrating? Also, dialogue is almost indecipherable against the background noise and totally unnecessary "music". Potentially good material but needs a lot more thought, imagination and technical input (Eg fade background when dialogue is present - maybe good dubbing or off camera dialogue even. Your video "2008 Suzuki 2.5hp Full and detailed service and run- {Everything you need to know}" is brilliant, please use that as your benchmark because you are so much more fluent and present so well compared with most "transatlantic cousins" that are flooding You Tube with their nasally drawls and narcissistic visuals and scripts.
@dp472804 жыл бұрын
Don't be sorry.... there is a very good reason why 3 different hp motors. On the second hand market people are very flexible and in this end of the market people will shop around price. The 2.5 hp and 4hp 2T are similar weights and as demonstrated you get very little to no extra from an older 4hp than a new 2.5hp. The 6hp is there because when deciding what to get, is the additional weight add to inconvenience. at 36kg your not lugging it 100m down the beach where you could with the others. Additionally its worth mentioning that there is no science in it and probably has interest value at most. There are so many other factors to take into account -(prop material, pitch, power band, performance at different rev ranges, hole shot) but I was interested so I tried it out. The sound quality - agree and a lot of the video was lost because of it but until I get a serious wireless lav mic set up its the best ive got! and video editing skills will come as I do more. Thanks for the input.
