But the interview on The Pregame Show with Tank perfectly explains how the spiritual aspect plays in the locker room. He clearly said that while he's on his own spiritual journey he's found Coach being open to people believing in what they choose to believe. He just encourages them to believe in something greater than themselves. This is exactly how he operated at JSU and there never appeared to be an issue and those young men would probably say they were better for it. Simply kneeling in quiet reflection or prayer before playing an extremely dangerous game I'm sure helps more than it hurts. It's not organized. No one is telling them what or how they should reflect or pray. In an instant their entire lives could be changed simply playing a game, so let them handle that how they choose to without judgment.

I also am not Christian so I understand that it has an alienating effect on players who don't pray to God or Jesus. You can believe in something greater - the team. The point wasn't quiet reflection, it was to respond to the specific comment that praying to the Christian God is a positive for the whole team, and to highlight that the effect is perhaps not without downside. Interestingly enough when making these kind of points, the Christian value of compassion for those non-believing players seems to go out the window.
