Hi Patrick this was cool to know that NABA (or any convention regarding bathhouses even existed so THANKS for this video. I haven’t been to a bathhouse since summer of 2019…for me it got too expensive, (I’m 53 years old, so I can just imagine of how someone much younger would feel about the pricing) when I can just get sex from dudes off of Grindr for FREE, but YES I totally agree that the marketing could and should be changed to fit anyone (Short, Chubby, Native American, Asian, Fem, etc..especially if the Bathhouse percentage of people that’s never even been to one is sooooo low. Time for a marketing change for sure. If guys see an ad and all they see are the pretty boys and muscle heads then why should they go and pay the sometimes expensive membership fees to a bath house…to them it just seems like those are the same type of people at the local dance clubs and bars that still won’t give them the time of day (or night…pun intended). Pretty much every ad has a white twink, white hairy twunk/otter, and MAYBE the token short haired black dude….(basically the stereotypical porno looking dudes) that can definitely be intimidating to some…and you may come across an ad of a bear especially on bear night or a leather dude on leather night., but only on those nights will you see these ads. Also the marketing ads should have that condoms are in house for Free, this will ensure those that are conscious/concerned about their physical health can feel a little bit more inclined to go. Poppers, lube, etc.. for purchase that perhaps a percentage goes to a charity..

You are so correct about not knowing that Bath houses exist. Especially the younger generation, And here's the thing I don't understand why Bath houses don't advertise on sites like grinder and Adam 4 Adam. I don't know if it's still true but flex spas, Clubs, and Steamworks We're the big 3 of bathhouses back in the day. Another thing the younger generation doesn't seem to realize is that gay campgrounds exist, These are another place where you can have fun let your hair down be with others like-minded and have a lot of fun.

There was a time not long ago when EVERY gay guy who traveled had a copy of the Damron Guide with them for all the local gay places (bars, bathhouses, etc.) That was for North America. What was the European/international guide? Spartacus? Thanks to Damron, I was able to visit bathhouses in 13 different cities. Sadly, some are no longer open.

Interestingly I checked your channel and I have that telescope still new in the box and since I'm getting back surgery in December which will alleviate a greater percentage of the pain I caused by being too strong for my bones and causing a lumbar fracture 16 years ago using that telescope is on my list of things I truly want to do but was prevented by my pain. Since I was a kid I've been fascinated by nature, space, and everything related and I still am like a kid in my excitement. The other thing that still gets me going is related to the question you answered. At age 9 I was playing army, got "wounded" and needed an operation and my 13 year old friend assured me he'd make me feel better. He did and it changed my life.

I have read about bath houses and it is too bad there is no such thing a bath house where you could stay for 24 hours and it could be an experience that was more than just sex. Like a small place to dine (simple foods), a hot tube, a place to sun, entertainment, steam room, like an entertainment complex where you could just rent a room and stay for a respite from the straight world with other gay men so you could just chill in a towel. If sex happened, great, if not, ok, it was just a relaxing experience. I don't know if I am making sense. Not just the go, have sex and leave kind of place.

Actually, what you described did used to exist. Places where you could rent a room with in-and-out privileges (you could leave and come back in at no additional cost, back to your same room); which had food and bar options, outdoor swimming pools and hot tubs and nude sunbathing. I don't know if they still exist, but I stayed at several. But one cautionary note: it can be difficult if not impossible to sleep there with all the loud disco/EDM music playing on the speakers -- unless you had the foresight to bring earplugs. 😊👍

I bet the percentages actually much higher than 30% of not going to the bathhouse when you include the younger demographic. It hasn’t really been a thing for most under 30 year olds that grew up with Gridr and online hooking up in general

Unfortunately, NYC no longer has two bathhouses. Post-pandemic the West Side Club in Chelsea closed permanently, and at this point the East Side Club is around, but hard to find info about as the website is no more, and their social media accounts have been inactive for multiple years. If they're open, the only information is from Reddit threads, old reviews, and the user provided info on Sniffies, most of which don't bode very well (Sniffies comes closest to actually giving an address and a heads up to bring cash) There are some spa areas that get cruisey in the city, but I believe that a bathhouse is a different animal entirely. If you have to worry about getting arrested, you are not talking about the same experience we are. What I hear about more instead, though, are word-of-mouth sex parties. These aren't the same experience at all though, especially if you want to cruise and play separately one on one, if you want to spend time relaxing, or most obnoxiously, if you don't meet the attractiveness requirements enforced at some of these. I would absolutely love to be mistaken though, and to hear from others you've spoken to or other commenters. This type of vibe is exactly what I have been craving for a while, and it feels scary to see things get swept away so nonchalantly.

Bathhouses are dieing out because it is much more convenient to have sex at home. Home doesn't reek of chlorine and the music is not overly loud. And I have a queen size bed - not a tiny twin. Twin beds are not meant for two people - except in a bathhouse. The West Side club just closed in NYC. I remember going there and membership was $35 or something and then a room was an additional $25. $60 is a lot of money when u can hook up on bbrt for free. All the cute guys are behind closed doors. So many reasons not to go to a bathhouse. I went on a Weds once and there were less than ten people there. No thanks.

Isnt this more about protecting an industry's profit$ ... than doing anything beneficial for the gay community. Lets just be real. Thats what its about : Money $ How many do you suppose died of HIV in the 80s & 90s. Were bathhouses a net positive or negative to that transmission?

AIDS was an epidemic that was ignored by the sitting Republican President for so long that people died that didn't need to die. Also, bathhouses have always been a meeting place for folks in the community to come together and share information, including how to protect yourself against HIV, COVID, MPox. And, I don't know if you know this, but we live in a Capitalist society. OF COURSE the goal is to make money, it's a business like everything else... but to frame it as if bathhouses don't care if you live or die as long as they make money is wrong.

@PatrickMarano Well it was a combination of an idiot Regan President. And also, have to admit the community wanted to be in denial, head in the sand, not change any of its sexual habits. One cannot argue with science. Statistically the higher number of partners the higher goes the risk. Everything in moderation. Like drinking. Too much is unhealthy. Not immoral. But definitely unhealthy. And even now, after all those deaths, many in the community don't want to admit behavioral changes, fewer partners, and condom every time all the time are the solutions. There will always be a other bug on the horizon, especially with climate change & planes criss crossing the globe. Lets learn the lesson that sex is secondary to love and that businesses aren't always our friends.

@PatrickMarano Many of the gay magazines back then got tons of ad revenue $ from bathhouse industry. Maybe why so slow to warn the community ⚠️ and clearly bathhouses were a point of transmission in the early 80s. Everyone knows that. But they didn't want to hit that industry's profits. Except for the HERO Randy Shilts who effectively lobbied to shut down the venues while the plague raged. Probably saved countless lives.

They've come a long way, and all the awareness on STDs/ HIV as well as condoms and PrEP are progress in the right direction with bathhouse establishments. (Yet, also stop being so sexist and transphobic against women and Trans men and women going in k). That was so yesterday. Today : the prime target to Lobby against are Apps ! Akin to cigarettes. Mandate: Age Verify Tech to protect our young gays. & Warning ⚠️ Label/ Info. On STD rates in their zip code mandated on home page of App accounts 💪 Stike at them Legislatively. Both Straight & Gay Apps alike, no bias.

Who needs a bath house?. Once at my gym a local HOT TV weatherman walked in next to my locker. He noticed I was attracted to him and he pulled me into the shower. Not the most privacy but nobody complained....I'm sure it was because he is a local celebrity
