I was looking for a second job once and interviewed for a place that told me I could have the job if I quit my other one. They wanted me to quit my full time job for a $5/hr pay cut part time job.

What kind of “logic” is that following? Why would someone looking for a second job, presumably for more money, want to take one job with less pay? Some weird pride in their workplace? Strangely territorial?

My husband worked in the kitchen of an university and lost his job due to corona when everything shut down. A popular bar and restaurant downtown reached out to him via text. They wanted him to come in for an interview for a full time position. No problem. They set up the interview next day. He went there and everything went fine for the 30 minutes interview, and he agreed to start on trial Monday. As they were shaking hands and he was about to leave, she threw in there that it wasn't a full time position after all but they needed someone to call in when someone else was sick. He was stunned and came home, sat down, and said, nope, ain't doing that. Since she preferred texting, he sent a text to her saying he wasn't coming Monday since he needed a full time job. The reason she texted instead of calling was so she could think about her way of answering in case he asked about it being full time when there never was a full time position to begin with. Good news is that the following Tuesday he got a call from a homeless shelter that needed a full time cook, and he's been working there ever since. He's so happy there.

I walked out of an interview for Broadcast Engineer at a new TV station, in Dayton Ohio. They bragged that it was 'built under budget' then wanted to pay minimum wage for 40 hours a week as a salary, but to be on call 24/7. I told them any station built under budget was not built properly, and they could shove the offer. The pay was less than 25% of what it should have.

Immediately realizing they hadn't actually read my resume. If they're that lazy and unwilling to work that they cant be bothered to read a single, one-sided piece of paper, there's no way that company has a healthy work environment or managerial oversight.

My last job had some red flags that I should have paid more attention to. It was listed online as a 'Bindery' position for a print company. The job description listed a few different tasks, none of which related to book binding. Toured the facility and only machine in the department to run was a business card cutter. During the interview I was further told I needed a physical to be accepted. Went and did that and a week or two in they had me sign a sheet saying if I left right away... I'd be the one paying for the physical. Can't believe I stayed 9 months at that place, standing at a machine, just feeding it paper.

lmao I tell this story often An automotive parts painting company I won't name interviewed me a few years back. Down in the office with the two managers who go over the basics. They tell me it's a 7 days a week job, 12 hour shifts. They ask me several times during this portion of the interview if that'll be a problem. I say no because at this time I'm desperate for work, and plan to at least get a couple of shifts in before leaving for something else (I was 100% broke at this time, doing what I had to do okay?) The managers are getting increasingly excited about the prospect of me starting, and aren't trying to hide it. The main one says we're all good here, so let's go do a walkthrough of the facility. On our way from the office to the back, we pass through the lobby. The manager turns to face the large bay windows, looks outside at the bright and sunny day out there, sighs heavily and says "Sometimes I wish." Shaking his head a little. "Well, are ya ready? let's go take a look." If this wasn't the single most aversive comment an interviewing manager could make, idk what is. I humored his tour, and told them I'll be in touch... I did not call them back.

Interviewers: if you want someone to start in the position they've applied for, DO NOT express your current professional dread to them during the interview.

A friend was trying to hire me to work for him. He did stuff like putting together furniture and barbecues for people, as well as general household maintenance tasks. He sent me a contract that was not very professional looking. Seriously looked like he just typed it up in Word. One of the stipulations was that he could either charge me or withhold my pay if I had damaged any equipment. So he could just claim that I had damaged something and screw me like that. Also, he didn't have any insurance. Suffice to say I didn't take him up on his offer. We were both in our late 20s and I'm 30 now. So glad I didn't get conned into that. Also, I liked that little tip about checking the engine room of a ship first to see how well maintained it is, because if a captain is neglecting the most important part of their ship, they're not likely to be a good boss. Does anyone know of an equivalent thing to look for regarding jobs in general? I'd like to be able to keep that memorable tip in mind while on my job hunt, and being able to easily translate it to something more relevant would be extremely helpful.

In any type of manufacturing environment, look for crud jammed around the bases of the machines. Heck, look for it _anywhere._ If they're lax on cleaning to the point dirt accumulates around the baseboards, it's a slipshod operation. Excuse yourself to the toilet. Look around the baseboard and on the sink counter for tiny mouse turds. This is especially important in any place where food or drinks are processed or served, but it's nasty to see anywhere. In an office environment, listen to the general buzz of voices. Is there complete cacophony, some playful banter, or is it dead silence?

What an awesome video! 👏🏼 I once had a second round of interviews for a role I really wanted. Only to be told by the utterly rude hiring manager and HR BP that they forget to cancel the interview and that I didn’t get the job. They asked me if I wanted to continue with the interview as a practice run for future positions. To my utter regret I said yes (reeling from shock), but if I could do it over again, I would just walk out. But years later they offered me a role and I declined. Pissed of the entitled manager to no end. People close to her told me. Not vindictive by nature, but that lady was a piece of work and I felt great!

Got a job offer before starting college (didnt know what I wanted to do yet) simple factory thing but had to wake up at 6am to get to the interview/tour/speech etc. and didnt end up getting home until close to 4 in the afternoon. Got a call shortly after getting home saying they needed me there from 7pm-3am that night so I asked if I could start the next day instead so I wouldnt have to drive home after being up almost 24 hours and said you clearly dont care about employee safety. They responded generically without ever engaging my "do you really want your employees driving home after being awake almost 24 hours?" inquiry lmao blocked the number and ended up going to college soon after. Im not trying to swerve off the road because of a barely above min wage job lmao

Applied for many jobs in the food industry after I lost my job that I had for just over 5 1/2 years. One place was at a hotel & casino. All of their spots had the same job title and description of it was just a regular cook(later confirmed during interview). I randomly applied for a spot and got an interview. I couldn’t go in the fist day they asked for an interview, I think I had one that day/time, but was able to go in the following day. Went in and asked for the person that the guy said to ask for as the guy on the phone wasn’t going to be there. Understandable as I think he was going on vacation and figure that it does happen on occasion. Turns out, the person that I was told to ask for was also out and there was no note/mentioned that I was coming in for an interview. They didn’t even have my resume printed or emailed to the person that actually did my interview. Fortunately, I have a few with me and I was more then happy to give her one. She explained the job title/duties and was ok to jot down that i would prefer the prep position that they were also looking to hire for. I never heard back and thank goodness for that. I didn’t, nor will I ever be upset about having to deal with someone else to interview with that wasn’t the person I talked too. But if they were that disorganized/forgetful about telling their other colleagues about interviews, that may really suck for me as I’m already an easily confused person and I don’t need that kind of scattered functionality from higher ups.

I was at a interview. The guy I was meeting was left his office and made a phone call to the same person before my interview start. I had time to look at the work never seen anything like that before. Talk down to me when I did not answer questions how he wanted and would not let me fully answer questions. When told we was Computer Hack a while ago and lost everything. I was like nope even other places I worked out drill in have backups. One was smaller then this place. He would not even let me walk out said I get back never called or email the place. Wost one every had.

4:19 My workplace is one of the few jobs I’ve had where the manager will join us in goofing off. Half the time she’s the one making the jokes and throwing out lame insults. She’s the only reason I come in on my days off or offer to switch with her so she can rest. We need more managers like that!

Hubs left an interview at lunch at a uni. The morning consisted of racist talk, ignoring a rich kids doing drugs, talking down to him because he didn't go to the "right" school. The last straw was at lunch knowing him and those he was with were being spied on. He just left. He first got suspicious when the boss invited him to stay at his house instead of a hotel or driving in for the day.

@@KaiHenningsen Yeah, I ended up leaving all the group chats for it and blocking the people involved with it. Honestly, I’m a pretty gullible 20 year old, but on the bright side is that at least I figured it out before getting roped too deep. Sadly the ad was posted in an employee group chat by the manager (who is well liked and well respected by my coworkers) and it appears that at this point I’m the only person in the group chat with any skepticism. None of my coworkers are listening to me when I said it’s a pyramid scheme and my manager basically replied to me in private basically trying to force me to shut up. Little does he know that I’m collecting as many screenshots as possible and will be showing them to his boss.

I've been binging(bingeing?) these types of video lists all day, & this has had the 1st Ad in oh, about 5hours(this isn't a complaint), so I decided to set about finding out why the other channels have zero Ads in them... Apparently it's because they've all been demontized for basically ripping off entire videos & adding an AI voiceover, from better channels(like this one) which actually take the time to compile entries/stories in their videos. Examples of those usually include reddit in their names, not always but often.. Great to be watching vids that have a human voice presenting, with little story additions & personal anecdotes & stuff from the voiceover dude..

It’s mundane but I may as well share. I’m looking for my first job. Yet to be offered, but one place has already lost my interest. I applied as a hostess. I show up for the interview and the sever who comes to the desk (bc no hostess) says she’ll tell the presumably manager in the back. She comes back and says she was told all interviews were supposed to be rescheduled for the next day. The next day, at the agreed time, I’m told that no hiring managers are in the building. The hospitality manager is gone but the server gets the bar manager to interview me. That at least went well. Came back for a second interview with the hospitality manager. It was mostly fine besides her being late despite half the place being empty. She informs me the position was filled and I’m not old enough for any others, but tells me to call back a week later to see if it’s open, bc the person who was hired would be training then and may have quit. I told my dad (who was waiting in the car) about the possibility of calling back. He said screw them for giving me the run around. Yep, experience isn’t really worth that kind of management.

Not my story but a coworker's. He was on an interview panel for a position for another shop at a state university. The person they were interviewing was already working here as a temporary employee and he was going for the permanent position. I'm not sure how it came up in conversation, but the person being interviewed told them that white people were the superior race and he doesn't want to work with minorities. We are in a pretty liberal state, but this guy he interviewed would have been a hard sell even in parts of the south. I'm not sure how he finished the interview. Obviously, he didn't get the job.
